1  Media / Game Journals / Re: Retro Encounter Podcast Thread on: May 25, 2015, 07:40:22 PM
1-2 is alive!

I tripped and fell into a canyon, so I wasn't in this one, but I'll be back for the last! Don't worry though, everyone else is more than up to the task.

Please do continue to share your thoughts and let us know what you think about the game/next games/etc!

I couldn't care less what early footage looked like. Game as it is now is gorgeous, and has always had good art design. Good enough for me, never have visuals actually influenced whether or not I would buy something.

I do wish there was more chatter on this. Although maybe it's because everyone's playing!

It took over my weekend. Combat's a bit clunky (bit still fun) and the game has a lot of jank, but holy moly the quests and world design are just so good.

Suikoden II. I have no nostalgia associated with it, I played it a few months ago for the first time. Has aged pretty well for a PS1 RPG, and I love the music.
5  Media / RPGFan Music Discussion / Xenoblade X OST on: May 23, 2015, 05:14:36 PM
Davi reviewed this!

I talked a lot of skepticism prior to this coming out. I was mistaken. I love this soundtrack. Don't go in expecting anything like the previous Xenoblade, though, because you'll be upset. This is very different, and (IMO) pretty unforgettable music.

Anyone pick this up? I never played it (but loved the original and Overclocked), and I'm really digging this one now too. Kenji Ito's tunes make for a really different flavor, but I like it a lot.

I finally started English Tales of Hearts R. I wasn't mistaken, this game is definitely better than Xillia. It's formulaic, but I'm enjoying it way more than Xillia, which felt painfully perfunctory and rushed.

Also played some Graces F for the first time, and I like that, too. I hear the cast is awful, but I'll be damned if the area design isn't more interesting than Xillia.

Basically I really don't like Xillia.

I'l have a lot more to say soon, but I think it makes a pretty but clusterfucky first impression with way too many popups, menus, clicks, and other stuff. Feels a little janky.

After a few hours it comes together though, and it's quite fun. Fantastic atmosphere, really captures a unique European fantasy vibe.

It was tasty.

If you play on easy, you could probably get away without pasuing.

Yeah, I've had great fortune with KS-- basically every game I've backed has lived up to expectations or greater. Darkest Dungeon is already awesome, Pillars is awesome, I love Broken Age, etc, etc. I could see being gunshy, but much like my staunch adherence to attending midnight screenings of movies, I back Kickstarters to be part of the enthusiasm and mood surrounding it.

It's on UE4, I believe.

I backed this so fast my wallet exploded.

I actually find I read the front page more than ever, now with our crazyballs news team writing so much. I used to have to go elsewhere, but now I can just take advantage of the wonderfully egotistical act of reading my own site :)

Although props to you for checking on podcasts ;)
15  The Rest / The Bazaar / Re: A pile of rare Secret of Evermore soundtracks show up: seller goin cheap?! on: May 10, 2015, 11:38:42 PM
Ugh, I want one, but I also don't want to spend $25 on something that will just sit on my shelf forever and look cool.
