You linked Duke Silver just to pander to me and I'm okay with it.

This does sound like a good idea!

I'm open minded as to vocals, and they sound very pretty in the samples (no surprise, Laura Shigihara is wonderful), but my only concern with a few tracks is the same as those in memoria: when the vocals are such a focal point that I can't hear the original melody.

I sure do like the samples though.

Also Promise, the Legend of Mana album, is great, and when I have a computer with Internet again I'm totally going to talk more about it.

For the longest time, I thought Imageepoch was a Square-Enix-like amalgamation of Imagineer and Epoch. Apparently I was very wrong about that!

I thought Fate/Extra was OK. I agree with your assessment, Neal. The battle system was different, but not necessarily good. I think the game was much longer than it needed to be too. Or perhaps if they were a bit more conservative (can't believe I'm saying this) and ditched the hardcore rock-paper-scissors, it would've been solid.

I didn't realize they made Criminal Girls, though. I've played a handful of Imageepoch games, most notably Luminous Arc and Sands of Destruction. Neither were particularly *bad* games, but they were super mediocre and not exciting at all. This especially stung with Sands, which had talent like Masato Kato, Kunihiko Tanaka and Yasunori Mitsuda on its team and looked visually similar to Xenogears, but still managed to be dull-as-dirt. I can't even recall a single piece from the soundtrack.

But apparently they also made 7th Dragon and those games are supposed to be pretty good? Rieko Kodama worked on the first one.

From what I understand, the CEO mysteriously disappeared earlier this year and the company shuttered shortly afterwards. Atlus are releasing their final game Stella Glow later this year, which looks like another Luminous Arc.

The final boss track from Sands is pretty fantastic, amidst a sea of "okay"

Well what do you know. Interesting!

Listening more closely, I'm actually not such a huge fan. I agree that it sounds a little generic, and lacks some of the character I usually associate with Persona tunes. Maybe it's more of an overture than a boss theme? I do like the hook, though!

Hmm... I'd wager dollars that this is fake. Atlus hasn't released any albums containing samples of the P5 music, and it doesn't have any vocals, which has sort of become a modern Persona staple.

Neat song though!

I disagree with all of you hating on Lost Odyssey.

New episode with Aqua that bridges to KH3 is okay with me

Do we really need more re-releases/remakes/spin-offs for this series. Really? REALLY? There are only two main series releases. Square Enix are so weird with KH.

(I know Stephen will say yes. :P)

Actually, I'd say yes to KH3DS only because then every game will be available on one platform, which is rad. :D

I'm surprised that some of you in this thread don't have terrible eye strain from retrospectively staring through rose-colored glasses.

there is no rose colored glasses. if games were actually just as good if not better now than they were during my late teens and early 20's why do i have far less interest in current games? i have no beef with these shows but if i had a child i would not want them watching stuff like adventure time, regular show or even spongebob. the shows of my youth had positive messages and i probally picked up some of my morals from them. the shows i see today just "seem" like mindless fun designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I'm guessing it's 1.5, 2.5, and DDD HD.

Or maybe an episode Duscae for KH3... hmm.

I'm not super concerned with what they do to battles, as long as limit breaks, materia, and controlling a full party are still in.
13  Media / RPGFan Music Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy X HD Remaster OST on: September 05, 2015, 11:58:11 PM
I can totally dig it. VGM has also introduced me to (and helped me listen to) a lot of genres I otherwise wouldn't hear on my own. I've also been there before where you eventually come around on an OST-- that's how I feel about Phantasy Star III. A whole lot of people hate the sound in that game, but after listening to it so much, I've sort of come BACK around on it, hah!
14  Media / RPGFan Music Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy X HD Remaster OST on: September 02, 2015, 08:28:30 PM
I'd love to hear why. I think it has some charming music on it. It's a bit rougher than, say, FFX (IMO), but I do like the music in X-2

I'm glad everyone's in agreement at how glorious KH2.5 was. It's one of the (many) reasons I'm so excited for FFXV's OST. Seems like it's going to mostly be the same combo of Shimomura and the VGO, and I'm A-OK with that.

such acronyms
15  Media / RPGFan Music Discussion / Re: Gyakuten Saiban 5 (PW Dual Destinies) Review on: September 02, 2015, 06:19:12 PM
I just started the series for the first time with the 3ds collection and all the music I've heard has been topA
this one also seems like no exception.
