This is Squeenix, they also LOVE to release international updates internationally....oh wait!

The version America has of FFVII is the International one (without the 4th bonus disc with the background information about the game that the Japanese Int. Version has over there though), and Europe has the International Version of FFX by default but that's mainly because the game was released like a year later when Japan already had the Int. Version in January 2002.

...oh and the version that America and Europe got of Dirge of Cerberus is the International Version that was later re-released in Japan. So that's a thing.

The international version of FFVII was done in part by contracting out to the US which is where those cool looking (for the time) CGIs came from; like the ones used in the Motorcycle Chase, the Flashback scenes, Aerith's death scene, the handing off the Black Materia to true Sephiroth scene, and the ending sequence (you'll notice that the 2nd disk is utterly bereft of them beyond the Black Materia scene).

And FFX doesn't count since I live in the motherfuckin' USofA dude it would've been phenomenally stupid to not have released the International version of FFX to a region without any FFX.

Plus both of those cases were done by Squaresoft, not Squeenix which has batted a 0/1000 average thus far.

DoC doesn't count because fuck DoC right up it's creepy, under-aged ass chasing ass.

I liked Dirge of Cerberus... :(

Paying $10 less for things that I know I'm going to buy? Not seeing how I'm getting screwed there. Let's say you aren't sure you want the DLC. So you don't buy the season pass. Then you only buy one of the DLCs. How did you get screwed? Or, you buy all four, because you like them. You weren't forced to buy the season pass, and you got all the DLC. Not screwed there either. I don't get it.

Maybe if this were a developer that hadn't already shown that they can consistently produce good to great DLC I'd understand that sentiment. But considering General Knoxx alone added like at least ten hours to Borderlands 1, I'd say there's nothing sinister happening here. Gearbox has earned my trust, based on what they've produced up til now, so I have no problems buying in early (and saving myself money in the process).

Tales of Eternia is UK-only, but if you like Tales games, it has some of the best music and combat in that series.

Hey man, your criticisms are not unwelcome, so feel free to voice them. We like it when people comment on the show, good or bad!

But in all honesty, I DO think that a lot of people are going to say T2 is better than D3, regardless of either game, because hating D3 is sort of in vogue. That isn't to say I don't think there are legitimate problems or that EVERYONE is thinking that way, but I think it would be silly to say that it isn't the case at least sometimes. Like I wrote in the T2 thread, it's an objectively great game, but I personally don't get much out of it.

I'm not going to be a Diablo 3 apologist, because that game has some hugely disappointing flaws and it's unlikely that I'll really go back to it again, but I'm also not going to be nice to Torchlight 2 just because of 'x' or 'y' reasons. I'm gonna try to be fair, absolutely, but I'm not going to love it for doing something well that was done well ten years ago.  I really do believe D3 is a more adventurous game that tried to do something fresh, and I enjoyed my whole time with it. The whole time I played Torch 2, I just felt like I was playing a really polished Diablo 2.5. But there's a huge segment of the gaming population that WANTED something more along the lines of D2 than what D3 was, and for them, T2 is like crack-- and I'm certainly not gonna get down on anyone for loving it.

Yeah, considering when D2 came out, your options were... Diablo and Diablo 2. We're all fuckin' spoiled. :)

If we don't get this game I'm going to burn Square Enix and Nintendo (for not making the 3DS region-free) to the ground.

After spending more time with this game, I'm pretty confident I won't be picking it up again, save for wanting to kill a few minutes. I haven't had a single "I love this game" moment-- it just feels like I'm playing a super modern Diablo 2-- which is fine, but there have been 500 other hack and slash action RPGs just like this since then, and this one just feels like 'one of many.' It's an objectively solid game, but I'm getting absolutely nothing out of it. Diablo 3 felt more refreshing and original to me, especially in the combat department-- there may have been less surface-level customization, but when I leveled up I felt like things were really changing, and the way skills were given made for a much more rewarding playtime for me. I doubt I'll pick up D3 again, but I got a good hundred hours out of that and enjoyed every moment, whereas here I feel like the whole thing is just 'meh.'

The only area I feel like T2 outshines D3 is in the loot, and even then, that's only because it's basically just a jacked-up Diablo 2.

In much the way I feel like a lot of hate was thrown at Diablo 3 because of huge expectations, I feel like this game gets a free pass because it ISN'T Diablo 3, it's Diablo 2.5. Again, not to disparage anyone who feels different or really loves this game-- I can totally understand that and appreciate it. But I prefer the fresher, different experience of D3 to Torch2's "oh hi I'm Diablo 2 with more twisty knobs." Maybe this game gets longer legs because of that, but for me, the experience just feels stale.

There will probably be more discussion in the next ep, too, since it wasn't out yet when we recorded.
1121  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Torchlight 2 on: September 24, 2012, 12:26:51 AM
I was enjoying the game at first, but I just got really bored with it and haven't had an urge to play at all. It's more of a time waster for me than something I'd actually sit down with the intention to play. Could also have something to do with my Borderlands 2 obsession.

I have 30-something hours on the game, and have been playing since 5pm today. Just started with another group of friends.

I LOVE THIS GAME
1125  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Torchlight 2 on: September 21, 2012, 12:17:22 PM
So far, I'm enjoying Torchlight 2. As Dave said, it's very polished, and there's a lot of fun to be had. On the other hand, I feel like both games (D3 and T2) are equally polished, but I found the combat much more satisfying in Diablo 3. The loot system is more interesting in Torch 2, but again, the basic "click this guy, watch him explode" is better, I think, in Diablo 3. Part of that cames from Torch 2's approach-- Diablo 3 was trying to "change things," where as Torch 2 wants to just refine what already exists. There's room for both games, but in all honesty, in a month I doubt I'll be playing either of them.

I will be playing BORDERLANDS.
