Speaking of the 25th, I'm currently listening my copy of

This :)

It is good.

Our End of the Year Spectacular episode of Random Encounter is now live!  Enjoy!!

Trying to download it, can't get it to work :/

What's it doing? Where are you trying to get it from? I just checked iTunes and the main link on the site and both seem to be working for me.

I had hoped once this game came out and (if) it got good reviews, people would stop and accept that while it may not be the game they were hoping for, it's still a good one.

Evidently I was wrong, because we now have scholarly theses on "why this reviewer doesn't get it."

Yes, everyone gets it, hardcore DMC fans: you miss the high-level play and other aspects of the series that are purportedly missing in DmC. It sucks when a series you love is redesigned. You think I'm happy that 2D Castlevania is now Mirror of Fate? Nope. But them's the breaks.

Stop telling people they're wrong for enjoying the new game. Skip it, hope Capcom makes another 'old-style' DMC, and stop raining on people's parade. I can't stand how much of a need there is for "people to realize why Brad is wrong! Or how silly it is that IGN's review was bought because obviously the game has absolutely no merit whatsoever!"

(Also this wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but rather the general sentiments I'm seeing across 'dawebz')

Actually my training is two fold...

First goal, look like this.

Second goal, which is sort of the real drive to look like that (albeit without the mask and with hair) is to ask a girl whom I've had a crush on for quite some time out.

Went to Darkroot Garden, did some stuff, died.

Went back and suddenly everything seems completely different. I'm getting mobbed by a group of three plant guys that weren't active till I searched a corpse near them, and they won't deactivate.

Fire is especially useful on them. Try some of the item that enflames your weapon or some pyromancy, if you have it. Stand back, and don't let them do their 'grab' attack. They can hit from beneath you like Starcraft Lurkers, so be careful.

$20 on Amazon for Dark Souls.  If you're into good combat, Dragon's Dogma has the best action RPG combat to date.  Being able to manually control climbing onto large enemies adds a layer of depth missing from a lot of action RPGs.  Both games are completely worth playing.

Great deal, though I definitely think Dark Souls takes the trophy for "best action RPG combat" :)

It's got a really great presentation. I'm happy to see Nintendo making sure its "second-stringers" get some love.

Also new 2D-perspective Metroid and Zelda plz

I 99% disagree with Rob's point that developers should listen to fans. I'm a big fan of developer transparency and some level of community outreach, but if developers take more cues from fans then fans will feel MORE effacious and entitled (an effing disaster) and the analogy of the inmates running the asylum could apply.

Now, developers should 100% listen to sales (which they always do) and professional journalists and critics (which they sometimes do). I just think that fans should stay in the audience and not be a part of the creative process. Like, at all. Again, we don't want the inmates running he asylum.

I agree with your first paragraph, but not your second. Critics and journalists are just fans who get paid to write about games, and their opinions are just as subjective as any other fan. And I actually enjoy some degree of audience participation in the creative process. I agree that the developer needs to have a firm vision for their project and can't buckle to every bit of community pressure, but on the other hand, listening just to critics and, more importantly, sales means we'll get nothing but Skyrim and CoD-knockoffs for all eternity.

Music isn't great and the animations are too slow.

Otherwise, I'm really digging it.

I actually like the music! Also, I could be wrong but wasn't there an option to speed up the animations? I didn't want to do that because I was really enjoying them, but I can imagine after 40 hours of play I'd want to speed it up.

EDIT: I like the music, though I admit so far it's a bit sparse. The combat tune is fun though!

Playing the demo. I've always appreciated this series but never gotten into it. All I can say about this game is "fucking wow." *preorders*

1166  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Pandora's Tower is Coming on: January 17, 2013, 01:34:39 AM
Operation Rainfall was a complete success then. Too bad that this was the least interesting game of that fan push. I may get it later but prospects are not looking good at the moment.

I thought The Last Story actually looked the least interesting, because of Hironobu's past couple console games.
(irony intended)

One of Hironobu's last console games was Lost Odyssey.

So it's a FF that you play by massively humping you Ipad smearing you nether region all over the screen to make all those characters attack?

Isn't that how you play all your handheld games? It's sure how I do it.
1168  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Pandora's Tower is Coming on: January 16, 2013, 07:24:36 PM
I hear it wasn't a super great game, but still-- more RPGs is always a good thing. XSEED is doing nothing but building goodwill among a fanbase, if you ask me.

Maybe they can fight Square to the death for the localization rights to Bravely Default.
1169  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Square Enix is making an FF thing on: January 16, 2013, 11:28:38 AM
Looks like Taelus was right all along. It's a battle-focused RPG with an insane party size.  It still seems to use a lot of the FFV sprites, but it mixes other characters as well...but If you want the most popular ones, you have to buy them, I guess.

BTW, it doesn't seem to support the iPad 3 or higher...I'm hoping that's a mistake. :/

Womp. Womp.

Okay everyone go buy a bunch of premiums so Square will actually release Bravely Default. HUSTLE HUSTLE HUSTLE!

The reviews surrounding the game are surprisingly positive. I might end up picking this one up sooner than I originally intended.

And if Capcom Japan had put it out, it probably would have gotten shit on.
