sex innuendos (and is not that big of a deal anyway ._.)

Not that big of a deal, eh? Well, you don't happen to be a woman.

Exactly! As a reviewer, you should act as one, and not let personal stuff influence THAT much on reviews.

I mean, if i hear on a game that a crystal i way too big to fit a hole the revytail's have, and they start with the innuendos here, i, as a man, would probably laught a lot, but it might get a gamer woman on the bad side.

I'm a male, and I think that stuff is retarded, makes me respect a game less, and would make me say "this is pathetic." It's not good writing, and it's not good humor, it's just cheap pandering to try to sell the game to a very, very specific crowd.

I have never read a review in my life that was completely objective. They are opinions -- they're supposed to be. They will always be personal to some degree.

To be objective would be simply to state facts. If you want that, read a preview.

Be happy I didn't write the review.

That's not the point, preview is a preview, a taste of the game, not how the game is, go ahead and do the review, is not my fault there are not many good reviewers these days.
Read reviews like Wild Arms 2 from Pat, he loved the game, but he was objective enough to keep that away from his review.

You mean read a review where the reviewer liked the game? If a reviewer loves the game, it makes no sense to 'keep that away from the review.' As for your completely not subtle insinuation that Kim is not among the few "good reviewers these days," her review is thorough and communicates hard fact on the game. It has an excessive and tasteless amount of sexual content, and the core aspects of the game are broken or poorly done. The excessive sexual content is there ONLY to offset the fact that they've made a half-assed game.

As for the guy that posted the AT3 and the Eternal Sonata? screens, that doesn't change what i said does it? Yeah, the 3D graphics may not be great quality as others, but does this mean you will say they are bad?

" I didn't found the graphics of this game appealing at all, compared to other games i've played, the graphics of Ar Tonelico 3 are really low quality, i would recommend to check Screens before getting the game to see if they would appeal to you, but i really thing GUST could had done better"

There, a lot better than just saying "The graphics were "ugly" compared to what we have seen.

Do you understand what you are saying? The entire purpose of reviewing the game's graphics and evaluating them is to compare them to other, similar games and graphics in general on the syste and say how they stack up. The fact is, a nearly four-year old game ported from another system looks better than this game, which is full price and brand new. So YES, they ARE bad graphics. And she shouldn't have to say "compared to other games" or "recommend that someone check screens." That's common sense. What else could she possibly be comparing the graphics to, an Atari 2600 game? The review is supposed to state her opinion based on the facts of the game, and the fact is, the graphics are ugly.

Yeah Rob, I was telling you yesterday, I have to use choke points in every fight that I can, and prior to every fight I find myself positioning my party beforehand-- and the wave design makes it so that I have to think about my positioning after the first wave goes down. I always feel  Of course, if you just run far enough away from where the initial wave spawns, the second wave won't spawn on top of you. So yeah, definitely an inelegant solution. But again, I think it all leads back to the fact that the game was hardcore rushed.

Stephen is enjoying the difficulty so far but I haven't been one-shotted yet. It is irritating at times, though. The waves and waves of enemies make it easy to get overrun-- and sometimes I feel like luck is involved. But I still don't have many abilities, so we'll have to wait see how it pans out. The intro had me literally killing myself over and over again with my own fireball spell.

We'll have a review in (hopefully) a few days :)

Not necessarily true. The Witcher 2 will be out soon :)

I'm with you there, Tooker. Kubrick is very highly regarded  and I basically can't stand his work. Everyone's got their tastes. I think Bioware sometimes lets their concept get ahead of their gameplay. Still, I love BG, NWN, and ME :D

I was pretty shocked by that myself. That's what such a short turn-around time will get us, I guess.

Rob schools nothing. I had a mostly positive impression of the game anyway. More importantly, the power of love is heavily embedded into this podcast.

I actually never played King's Quest, so I really can't speak to it.  That said, I'm always looking for an excuse to rip on Stephen when it comes to KH.

And once again, I can't say how much I love to read the support you guys give the show on the boards.  We weren't even sure if anyone was listening to the show besides the editors and Ivalice Alliance.  Glad you guys are enjoying it!

Rob, I love the series but I can usually agree with the criticisms you level at KH, despite still enjoying them. King's Quest is beyond criticism because as a series it is completely perfect. Bold statement, I know-- but it is. :)

And I've gotta second his love of you guys and your support. I have a blast doing the podcast and knowing that we have an audience is excellent.

I will be the first to admit my bias towards Kingdom Hearts and anything relating to the King's Quest series.

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that Bioware left pausing and other "strategic" options in the game just to please people who might be upset about the new direction. I didn't find that any strategy was necessary at all (in the demo, at least). I didn't pause, and basically just spammed through my skills then mashed the attack button until the cooldown wore off. That said, I did find the game pretty enjoyable, and the stats and inventory  (at least, the LOCKED screen) seems to show that there's a full suite of customization options that will be available in the full game. Pretty much, if the full game is like the demo, combat is mindless but mildly entertaining and not at all in the same vein as DAO.

Also, side note: Targeting is an absolute nightmare on consoles. Shuffling through 10+ targets was the only time I had to pause, and it was just so I could convince the game to target what I wanted it to.
1452  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age 2 on: February 23, 2011, 09:47:32 PM
I just finished playing the demo on PS3 and PC. You auto-attack by right clicking on enemies. On consoles, this isn't as much of an issue because it gives you the illusion that you're playing an action RPG. On PC, the reduced number of skills basically means you're watching most of the fight. It's a lot like KOTOR, honestly. It's enjoyable, but I if we're gonna bitch at FFXIII for having linear paths through areas, I'd better hear bitching at this game for the same, unless it opens up later. It's virtually identical.

The 'bullshit' in the beginning stuck out, too. They're trying to sell it to dudebros.

Still a pretty good demo though. I'm actually interested in the series now.

I have RH and have played a few hours of it. You'll definitely be getting impressions, because it's fucking awesome.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Rob's laugh is now his text message sound on my phone. YESSS.

Also, FFXIII is awesome.
