We're gonna get some Breath of Fire in an upcoming music podcast. mmm... Dragon Quarter...

Also, I still remember when we discovered Liquid Sky. One of us was playing Burnout and the other was all like 'OH MAH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SONG TURN OFF EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE RADIO.'

Good times.

*installs Burnout Paradise*

HEY I KNOW YOU.

And yes, I agree. My tastes have changed a lot over the years, and I've really started to shy away from wanting "more of the same thing," no matter how good what it used to be was. Predictability is borrrrring.

Yeah, the Triforce pieces ruined the game and made me not want to finish. Just such a silly timesink. Loved the rest of it though, even the sailing. I'd love to see them re-add in those cut dungeons.

Wait, just to be clear here I never said you couldn't build a gaming PC for $400.  I was objecting to the statement I was quoting which seemed to imply that PCs were basically free, because they're not.

Besides which, don't most non-gaming people mostly use laptops these days?  I don't think most $400 laptops will run games very well...

Ah, okay, true.

Although I won't comment on the laptop thing-- I don't have any numbers in front of me and I know plenty of people who use both, so I'm not sure.

No!

(Though I'll listen to yours!)

YESH!

EDIT:

YESH! to you listening.

I agree with Mesh's points almost wholesale, but I've been arguing with Ash about this for days now. It's just a situation that some people aren't going to agree on, and that's okay-- because none of us have to buy an XB1 if we choose not to.

This reductionism I continually see that says "XB1 IS THE SAME AS STEAM BUT EVERYONE LOVES STEAM" is missing very important shades of distinction.

And you can get a very solid PC to play games on for $400. I know, because I built one for a friend a few months ago. We spent $500 total, and that included a brand new bitching monitor, cheap speakers, and a mouse/keyboard. It runs Borderlands 2 at higher-than-console-quality settings, and does everything else you'd want a PC to do.

The only point that is true is that-- yes, you could be said to not "own" your games on Steam, but considering my games are more accessible via Steam than they are as CDs sitting in my parents' attic 900 miles away, I am infinitely more connected to them than I would be otherwise. The doom and gloom and "WHAT HAPPENS WHEN STEAM DIES" is paper-thin, if you ask me, because Steam isn't going anywhere for the forseeable future, and when it does, they've already said they'd unlock the encryption.

Microsoft's console will be gone and forgotten in ten years when the hardware becomes outdated, and if the NEXT Xbox isn't backwards-compatible, your games WILL disappear. It's equally possible that they'll unlock them somehow, too, and we can't discount that, but the life-cycle for a piece of console hardware versus a PC-based distribution platform that exists on Mac, Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android is significantly shorter.

Mesh basically summed it up:

Value-added or taken away. Steam's introduction and existence does nothing to take away from our computer gaming experience. Some of us even like its features; the rest can ignore it. XBO and its online DRM are a major step backwards from the 360 in every ownership aspect.

I predict there won't be a Shadow Hearts podcast before the next E3

Does that include music podcasts :D?

It's hard for me to compare this to Elminage. Elminage is a fantastic game, but was treated with almost no respect. CoH2 is a decent game treated with immense TLC.

I have to be honest, even aside from the localization I still felt like Elminage Original was pretty lame. There are significantly better options that make it hard for me to justify spending much time with it.

I will definitely agree though that CoH2 speaks volumes to the care Vic Ireland and folks and MonkeyPaw put into their projects. I'd absolutely support a future endeavor for them.

Hmm. I want to be upset, but to be honest, any new game in the Nosgoth world is fine with me. If it rekindles interest in the world, I'm happy with that. Plus, it might even be GOOD. O_O
400  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: E3 2013 on: June 07, 2013, 11:13:47 PM
So 'Nosgoth' is a multiplayer game from Squeenix based in the LoK universe. Crystal Dynamics has nothing to do with it.  Chalk this up with the ill-advised Shadowrun and Front Mission shooters..
Fuck!

WUT

Vic was kind enough to let me review a copy, and it's very enjoyable. Slow build, but once you get over the trademark initial hump, it's fun times, especially the combat's fluidity.

Some of these dungeons are brutal, too. My biggest complaint is the lack of dungeon music.

Is money as large an issue in this one? I remember in the first wandering around using starting equipment for a decent amount of time before I was able to afford/make anything.

Actually one thing I wouldn't mind knowing is if the race pictures fit their stats this time? I was more put off in the first one by the Erdgeist's monk like appearance not matching its magic like  stats than I should have been.

That said I did have a lot of fun playing the first game and will most likely buy the second at some point.

Money is useful, but I didn't play much of CoH1 to compare. I'm not constantly starving for it, but I also fight every battle and am playing on Hard, so I think the baddies drop more XP/dolladollabills. It certainly helps. The alchemy system is insanely obtuse, but it can be used to circumvent a lot of things you'd normally need cash for.
402  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Class of Heroes 2 (Physical + Digital) on: June 07, 2013, 09:58:11 PM
I think it's fun too, although I really think the game is painfully easy, even on hard. Love the mazelike dungeons. I agree, other than the relatively unambitious presentation (what the hell is up with pterodactyl calls in the Beginner's Brush?), it's a fun game, and about ten million times better than Elminage Original. I'll have a review up soon.
403  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Music Podcast (Rhythm Encounter) Thread on: June 07, 2013, 07:03:47 PM
Thanks a ton for your kind words! I'm glad you find us not lacking in luster!

Anyways, yeah, I think I enjoy the theme idea more too. I'd still like to do a couple "series" episodes, but we'll skew more towards broader themes/types of music than series in the future.

Thanks for the suggestions-- I've had a few ideas like that too. Op/End themes are definitely something we'll do, and "particular sounds" is a great idea. I like your game between the host and others, too-- I've been trying to think of something like that, so hopefully in the future we can work something like that out. It would be fun to have a segment where one of us brings a track or two and says "okay, guess the series/composer/scene this accompanies." Could be a good time!

Also this is the first time I found someone else who likes the Shadow Hearts series and Chrono Cross.

You poor thing. Let me personally welcome you into our loving fold.

EDIT:

Also, picking tracks for the new episode. I'll try to work in some of all of your suggestions (we had a fourth member of RPGFan picking tracks this time, too). I can't fit everything, but don't worry-- we'll have a volume 2 of Boss Themes :). I'm always thrilled to have you guys sending in your favorites too-- makes it "everyone's show."

I'm calling it right now... I truly believe capcom's "big surprise" is going to be about megaman somehow. The end.

It needs to be.

Understandable, but I think the consensus is that that is NOT what is going on here, so I don't think you have anything to be worried about.
