I support this but suspect it will be shut down by the more level-headed members of the site.

Dark Souls?

I check reviews here, but am surprised by how often I disagree with them. Lost Odyssey 75%? Shining Force III 70%? Dreamcast PSO 51%?! Everyone has their own individual taste... opinions can't be invalid. Even when they are.

One important thing to keep in mind, too, is that even among staff, people have different opinions. If I had reviewed Lost Odyssey or PSO they would have gotten significantly higher scores. It's important when reading reviews to remember that there's a sort of metanarrative to them-- you have the opinions of the authors, but you should also be able to glean some indication of whether or not things in a game are objective just busted by reading several and analyzing trends.

EDIT

And I agree, Neal. Wild ARMs XF is awesome.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS BUT JUST LIKE LORRAINE BAINES-MCFLY, I'M GONNA FIND OUT.

edit:

I suspect it might be an orchestral arrangement from the same folks that were responsible for Pokemon Reorchestrated (the Kanto Symphony).

Sweet, thanks for the suggestions! Keep them coming! I'm trying to compile a giant list. I already have a big chunk of games I want to include, too.

*looks around*

Uh, yeah, I also like to listen to the music in-game first.
 *cough*

Okay, I lied. :)

And yeah, Tower of Heaven is a fantastic soundtrack-- and a darn fun game, too!

I don't know what it is, but I am seriously hankering to play this game more. It's kind of refreshing to be excited about and enjoying an MMO.

rpgamer's doesn't tell a prettier tale. I guess the RPGFan review at least confirmes that it is in fact not more enjoyable for men despite what some people suggested.
I feel sorry for the people forced to slog through that mess.

If people suggested that the abysmal gameplay would have somehow magically varied and become not abysmal based on gender, I think their suggestions were faulty to begin with. A bad game is a bad game.

I hated this game and I only played it for 15 minutes at E3. Koshiro's talents were wasted on it.

Okay guys-- a new episode is coming in the next couple of days (got busy/lazy with editing). In the meantime, if you were going to pick a favorite song from a WESTERN RPG (that's anything designed and composed primarily by western musicians and developers) or adventure/visual novel, what would you pick?

I am pleased by almost everything I've seen from this game. I don't love the character designs, but I also don't care. LOL

So, I just got Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS and thought that I'd ask a few questions to the knowledgeable folks here. Because of the nature of the game with time (and not being able to be in two places at once), how exactly does the game work in regards to missables? And is there anything in particular that I should know as far as decision-making goes if my goal is to get the "best" ending? Any other sort of information along these lines would be appreciated, too!

There isn't really a "best" ending, there are (if I recall) 7 endings that involve different philosophies, based on which characters you agreed with and spoke to most throughout the story. Generally, if you like a character, following them and agreeing with them is a way to ensure that their "reasoning" is the one that will impact your ending. For example, if you really like Gin and Haru (like I did), you can stick to them for much of the journey, and you'll end up seeing more of their story and having their philosophy win out in the finale. It's like Chiaki and Isamu in SMT3.

There aren't really a ton of "missables," though, in terms of combat or demons. You can't do everything in one playthrough-- since going to a certain place during a certain time means you can't be in another place. It's very replayable. But yeah, hopefully that's helpful :)

I love that game and soundtrack. There's a fantastic remix with vocals, too, that Ramza introduced me to.

level ups only really increase your hp but I would consider it an rpg. Plus the way the characters shout when they cast magic is hilarious.

MAJEEK MEESHILE!
