I saw that news earlier. I can't wait for them to launch that. Hopefully it sets a precedent.

from the official post:

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

In other words, it sounds like they're ditching the 10-person sharing plan, which was actually a neat idea. I hope that isn't the case.

Plus, Titanfall's on PC ;). I don't count it as a console exclusive if I can have it on PC, too, because I'll take the PC version over either console version any day of the week.

This is still pure good news, and you're right about this being a delicate marketing situation: by doing this, they've basically confirmed they're favoring their publisher-relations with their consumer relations, and this move was borne purely out "oh shit our Amazon preorder numbers* are horrible."

*my guess

EDIT:

Also thank you for mentioning The Last of Us. I love that game. It's why I'm invested in a PS4-- Sony's exclusive developers have always appealed to me more.

I think you're underestimating the price difference.

On the one hand, it's a victory for consumer rights. On the other hand, it's clear exactly which team they're playing for and whose rights they prioritize first. It's great from a competition standpoint. You're right that the hardcore gamers are a subset, and the average dude won't care about the backpedaling or messaging, but they WILL care very much about the $100 difference in price.

As I said early, for me having only played maybe 2-3 games on my XB and XB360, I will definitely not be buying this console. They could price it the same as Sony and give me free cupcakes every time I turn it on (which, if 360 is any indication, would be once a year) and I still wouldn't want it. There is nothing in the lineup that interests me, and between the product messaging and the 360's complete dearth of RPGs (because most RPGs aren't the CoD-level jillion-selling cash-cows that Microsoft and their corporate publisher pals are desperate for) suggests to me that the case will be no different this time.

Nonetheless, them dropping some of these restrictions is absolutely a good thing, and I'm pleased that they went this route, even if it was very begrudgingly.

It's riyou kiyaku-- it's a use/user agreement. The rest is saying to please check and insert/enter something. I'm guessing it's asking you to check a box that says you accept the ToS.

Interesting. I'd love to see them do this. It won't affect me totally having no interest in the console (seriously, nothing in their lineup makes me want one. I played Lost Odyssey on my 360 and Phantom Dust on my original Xbox. I'm not doing this dance a third time). But even so, it would be good overall for competition for them to do this.

That's interesting. Maybe it was more like a Luminous Engine-type thing where they were just showing off. For all the hate heaped on Capcom these days, they do come up with some pretty solid new game ideas now and then. I'm interested to see where this goes.
519  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: SQUARE ENIX Presents, Live Broadcast E3 Showcase on: June 18, 2013, 11:52:50 PM
Square has basically already said that the HD remasters are going to be $40 for the pack on PS3 and $20 each on Vita.

And yeah, outright attacks are no. I completely disagree with him on everything he said, but you can't tell people to go fuck themselves here. If you disagree, you can say so.

And Aeolus, whether or not you like FFXII is completely irrelevant. The game is massive and saying it was somehow cheating you by being full-price at launch is... well, disingenuous. Maybe you didn't like it, but the game was not incomplete. It was much improved by the IZJS version, but it isn't at all a Capcom-level "hey here's the same game 8 months later at full price but we tweaked it." The game was still better than most games and packed with stuff to do.

So far, the only major issue I have is that AI characters are completely immune to being seen-- the enemies won't notice them if they aren't already alerted by you. It breaks immersion to see Ellie sneaking around a clicker's knees and have it be like "WELL I DO NOT APPEAR TO SEE ANY IMMEDIATE THREATS," but it's a relatively minor quibble for me.

I could have sworn I've seen Ellie alert an enemy before, but it could have just been my dumb ass. I can see the reasoning behind making the allies immune, since the developers probably didn't want the ally AI to screw over the gamer's perfectly laid stealth plans, but yeah I agree, it sort of breaks immersion, but never to the point where it's more than a small annoyance.

Yeah, absolutely. I think the alternative would be much worse, because sometimes when you're trying to be stealthy and have two people with you, it'd be almost impossible to stay hidden. Loving this game, though. SRS.

I am in love with this game. That is all.
523  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Naughty Dog's The Last of Us on: June 17, 2013, 11:46:06 AM
I agree with you, Stephen.  I'm not looking for perfection.  I don't think I've ever played a game that's perfect (except for Chrono Cross, of course...).  I just think there are areas in Last of Us that feel like a record skip during a rockin' party.  These moments stick out in the worst possible way because the game clearly establishes rules that it wants you to respect and acknowledge.

"Hey, dude, be careful.  Conserve your ammo.  Keep your head down.  Scan the area and move when you feel the moment is right."

"Uh, what about that dude that just spawned in the closet behind me?"

"GOTCHA!!!"

I like this game quite a bit, don't get me wrong.  Remember, I LOVE THE CRAFTING SYSTEM!!!

I like the crafting a lot, too. I'm playing on hard mode, and I guess there are fewer resources, which is creating a fantastic sense of "okay, I don't want to craft anything right now because I'm not sure what I might need later," and it's making me very carefully consider whether I need another shiv to take out a clicker or a first aid kit versus a molotov. Definitely like what they've done with it.

I've only had one situation where an enemy spawned that I couldn't see with the hearovision,
Code:
before you meet Bill when you hear the banging on the door

so I was at least expecting there to be someone there, but I do agree that it's a little Heavy Rain-in-the-clock-shop cheap that they did that.
524  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Naughty Dog's The Last of Us on: June 17, 2013, 03:27:15 AM
super mario games for example. I think the only mario game I ever played for story as much as gameplay is Super Mario RPG.

Mario games have stories?

You guys are crazy, I avoid spoilers like the plague.  I can't imagine getting the same appreciation out of something like Spec Ops: The Line if you already knew the ending.  It would ruin the whole experience.

I agree. I don't like to know anything going inl.

EDIT:

Also, I'm about 40% through Last of Us.

Code:
Going with Ellie and Billl to get the car battery.

Haven't had a single problem with stealth or the combat. Didn't mind

Code:
the hanging upside down part, either. It was tense, changed things up, and was brief.

I could understand someone saying this game isn't perfect, but this is already one of those "this game is so good I don't even care about whatever flaws it may have" games for me.
525  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: SQUARE ENIX Presents, Live Broadcast E3 Showcase on: June 16, 2013, 11:54:28 PM
I don't see why they'd cut it from FFX/-2 but not from Kingdom Hearts HD. Unless the rumor about selling Last Mission/Int'l as DLC is true. Which would be dumb, since that would require actual effort to remove.
