So where do the nanomachines come in?
In Kingdom Hearts? Never. :P

... so far.

I don't think it's terribly hard to FOLLOW, true, at least up until DDD. DDD is a fun, fun game that has an abominable plot and bad level design. I don't want to spoil anything for you, but let's just say that absolutely nothing happens in DDD until the final area, and at that point SO MUCH happens at once that you're left going "...what?"

If you think KH's plot hasn't become convoluted, we are just going to have to agree to disagree on what makes a coherent and enjoyable storyline. I love Kingdom Hearts to death, but that plot is an abomination. It's poorly paced, retconned to death, and full of meaningless and unnecessary convolutions that the scenario writers at Square seem to think are making the story more ENGAGING. They're not, they're turning it into unrelateable pulp anime schlock. The unneeded story added by the side games was fine when it was just Birth by Sleep and 358, but all that extra "stuff" has irrevocably changed the stakes and the scale of what is happening.

BbS had the story going in a fantastic direction, and then 3DS comes along and (spoilers)
Code:
Adds dream worlds, time travel, revives every character ever killed in KH2/CoM, and then still manages to not resolve anything. Oh, and let's not forget that out of nowhere, the Xblade is suddenly incredibly important and Xehanort's master plan is to clone himself several times, across time, which he somehow knew he'd need to do before he even could have known, in order to wield this blade, to bring about a Keyblade War for Reasons (TM). Oh, and all of the OXIII members are okay with being cloned on top of.

Yeah, no. KH's plot is a convoluted mess.

EDIT

And let's not forget how horribly they've marginalized Donald and Goofy, which is the most unforgivable crime of all.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/28/call-of-duty-ghosts-new-engine-still-iterative-not-built-from/

"I know we said our engine was new but it's not but it is!"

If I take the engine out of my car, along with the body, and replace every other part, I STILL CAN'T SELL IT AS A NEW FUCKING CAR.

Activision and Microsoft both know full well that most people will just watch the press conference, and not hear about some dev admitting a lie. Therefore, they get to say "WE WERE HONEST" while still ensuring the vast majority of people are misinformed.

Where was that politician analogy I was using earlier?

Looks like Derek's going to be making a few shoutouts :)

Also tell me more about this... tin roof.

Thanks, Tooks!

+1 to you for my obscure 90's pop culture reference.

And yes. That music was from Fallout, which you ALSO reviewed ;).

Glad you're enjoying it!

Let's pronounced the X in Xbone the same way they pronounce the X in Xblade in Kingdom Hearts.

My fondest memories of FFXI involve getting to level 17, dying hundreds of times in Valkurm and LaTheine because my friends leveled up without me and no one would accept a monk into their party, finding tons of players to be elitist and insufferable, and then quitting MMOs until LOTRO.

Great soundtrack and art design, though.

Yeah, plus, the demon is just a palette swap of an existing demon. I'm not too concerned. Selling ways to "quickly" clear a game is pretty popular these days, but I doubt it'll be necessary. We'll see what else comes later.

The exact same surprises are happening. The location is changing. To the home viewer, does it really matter if the surprise comes from a Square Enix/Nintendo boardroom or an E3 stage? I'd rather them not spend all the money on the song and dance at E3 and do the cheaper broadcasts.

Great article, Dave. Couldn't have said it better myself. It's 100% anti-consumer-- we get NO advantage. The only entity that "wins" in this hypothetical is Microsoft, and I can't imagine that win will be without cost.
