So far, the only major issue I have is that AI characters are completely immune to being seen-- the enemies won't notice them if they aren't already alerted by you. It breaks immersion to see Ellie sneaking around a clicker's knees and have it be like "WELL I DO NOT APPEAR TO SEE ANY IMMEDIATE THREATS," but it's a relatively minor quibble for me.

I agree with you, Stephen.  I'm not looking for perfection.  I don't think I've ever played a game that's perfect (except for Chrono Cross, of course...).  I just think there are areas in Last of Us that feel like a record skip during a rockin' party.  These moments stick out in the worst possible way because the game clearly establishes rules that it wants you to respect and acknowledge. 

"Hey, dude, be careful.  Conserve your ammo.  Keep your head down.  Scan the area and move when you feel the moment is right."

"Uh, what about that dude that just spawned in the closet behind me?"


I like this game quite a bit, don't get me wrong.  Remember, I LOVE THE CRAFTING SYSTEM!!! 

I like the crafting a lot, too. I'm playing on hard mode, and I guess there are fewer resources, which is creating a fantastic sense of "okay, I don't want to craft anything right now because I'm not sure what I might need later," and it's making me very carefully consider whether I need another shiv to take out a clicker or a first aid kit versus a molotov. Definitely like what they've done with it.

I've only had one situation where an enemy spawned that I couldn't see with the hearovision,
before you meet Bill when you hear the banging on the door

so I was at least expecting there to be someone there, but I do agree that it's a little Heavy Rain-in-the-clock-shop cheap that they did that.

super mario games for example. I think the only mario game I ever played for story as much as gameplay is Super Mario RPG.

You guys are crazy, I avoid spoilers like the plague.  I can't imagine getting the same appreciation out of something like Spec Ops: The Line if you already knew the ending.  It would ruin the whole experience.

I agree. I don't like to know anything going inl.


Also, I'm about 40% through Last of Us.

Going with Ellie and Billl to get the car battery.

Haven't had a single problem with stealth or the combat. Didn't mind

the hanging upside down part, either. It was tense, changed things up, and was brief.

I could understand someone saying this game isn't perfect, but this is already one of those "this game is so good I don't even care about whatever flaws it may have" games for me.

I don't see why they'd cut it from FFX/-2 but not from Kingdom Hearts HD. Unless the rumor about selling Last Mission/Int'l as DLC is true. Which would be dumb, since that would require actual effort to remove.

I haven't had a single glitch either, Kevadu. And I agree completely with you-- so far, I haven't had a problem with any sequence in the game-- either in terms of it working properly or of it feeling "stupid." Maybe some of them feel 'game-y,' but since I'm playing a game, I sort of... expected that. It's not a perfect game, no, but none of my favorites or the ones that have stuck with me most ever have been.

Except Chrono Cross, but we all know how CC discussions end up.

If you played DA:O on consoles then the problem might be much harder to spot. Playing DA:O on a computer made me see why people hated DA2 so much: DA:O was basically a RTSRPG. Positioning was important, and so were the right skills, the right setup, and the right equipment, especially on higher levels.

For everything DA2 did right (better story, better equipment variety, better ability progression, some better character development/dialogue, more focused world building) it did quite a bit wrong (wave-based combat bankrupting the gameplay, less equipment customization, some worse characterization, cut and paste dungeons, focusing on only one city). BioWare just needs to keep the good and leave the bad, but lots of companies say they will do that and very few follow through.

All of this, though I agree with Tooker that focusing on one city isn't inherently bad, it was just their execution in this case.

Thought the music was fan-tastic in ACF. Thought the combat was ruined. Oh good, 9 enemies at once who use OBSERVE and all move before me, each taking 2-3 hits to kill. I won't be here all day.

Are fans really split? I was pretty sure almost everyone preferred DA:O's combat? I enjoyed DA2's fighting, but the encounter design was borked.

I'm open to this game. I dont' have any investment in the DA world, so as long as it's a fun and well-written RPG, I'll sweat out the details later.

Also, I love Infinite Images. It's too bad they totally flubbed SCV. The music was pretty good, but the game was so underwhelming compared to the last few SCs. Also they took out Yunseong. Also I didn't realize Keiki Kobayashi did SCIV's OST. <3 Ace Combat.

I've been spoiled. I used to not mind a lack of dungeon BGM, but after EO I'm always like 'WHY IS THERE NO SOUND HERE.'

I still do like dungeons with ambient sound only, but it's pretty flubbed in CoH where the sound effects are nondescript and... weird.

Why can I hear a pterodactyl in the Beginner's Brush?

All that said, I still haven't played Wizardry PS3 (We're talking Labyrinth of Lost Souls, right?)
