Well, P4A honestly had a good reason: Atlus Japan didn't want the U.S. version cutting into their sales. I don't like it, especially since I have a Japanese PS3 and paid through the nose for P4A, but I can understand it.

I'm sure there's some bizarre circumstances in regards to P2 that they can't talk about due to corporate politics and BS though, Atlus doesn't normally get all vague about things.

I gotta agree with Ashton here, they were pretty clear with the region lock. It's not like each individual said "hey, we're excited to fuck over our customer base!" It's a business, and the reality is that they have to protect their interests and possibly also please shareholders and investors who do not give a fuck whether or not we can play P4A on our imported PS3s. That is the unfortunate reality that had to exist here.

I really don't see any condescension here-- and don't you think it's possible that the REASON they were mum on it until now is because they were attempting to work through the 'unusual circumstances' and only recently realized it wasn't going to go through? They could have been trying to pitch different ways to make it happen, but found out just recently that it wasn't going to happen. This is just as likely as them saying "haha, fuck them we'll just sell the PSOne version," and backed up with just as much evidence.

EDIT:

Liz said what I was thinking.

Lard, I respect that position, but I don't call it corporate cheerleading to not assume there's a conspiracy behind every decision. I'm about as anti-corporation as they come, but I'm also pretty fatigued by all the cynicism in this industry.
768  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Round 3: Advance Wars vs. Fire Emblem on: February 25, 2013, 07:32:59 PM
The fact that I can have derpery like surrounding a Fighter with Infantry and watch it helplessly sit there until it blows up, or diverting an otherwise decisive enemy advance with a single APC is the reason I'm gonna have to go with Fire Emblem on this one.
That's an unrealistic and not very strategic scenario. You can theoretically do the same thing in FE by surrounding an archer with melee units.

I can't pick a favorite here, I like both series.

The APC thing is totally legit in AW1, and the surrounding Fighters with Infantry is totally doable with AW2 Sensei (who would totally have a use for this given his pro B-Copter portfolio and his ridiculous CO powers).

Seconded, completely legitimate. Played a ton of those games.

Also, yes, 3DS Advance Wars plz.

I still disagree with the anti-Atlus sentiment about that release. The fact that they'd go out of the way to release the PSOne classic at all suggests that to me.

"this is what happens when you make a game for fans of the series first and foremost" uhh really? so people who enjoy FE for balanced, skill based tactical strategy aren't "fans of the series"?
People like you are in the minority, even among the more dedicated fanbase.

Agreed.

Also, if you're going to disagree with someone on the threads, that's fine, but there are a million better ways than writing something like "one more correction" and being as abrasive as you typically are, mrjrpgfan. Be more respectful of other people's opinions, and if you disagree, say so in a way that isn't demeaning to what someone else has said.

They are pretty different kinds of games, so I don't really think you could compare them 1:1.

That said, I'll take any entry in the Advance Wars series over Fire Emblem any day. Advance Wars is one of my favorite non-PC strategy games ever.

Just beat (P4 second possible victim boss spoiler)

Code:
Kanji's shadow. Loving the very hard mode. Awesome boss fight, had to use everything I had. Last minute, thought he was going to kill me, but I had a phys-reflect shield on my hero. Boss decides to use assault rush on him. Boink, doink, victory for me. <3

This game is ALL OF THE FUNS.

I watched my best buddy play the first two dungeons, but I never put my hands on it. I've gotten to the second stratum (or whatever they're c alled in P3) about four times in P3. Maybe after I finish P4, I'll go back to P3P!

I actually got a copy of this, and I thought it was great. I'm reviewing it this week, actually. I had a friend rip the LP for me, so I can listen to it in my record player-less apartment.

This album made me love Opera Maria and Draco. Never cared about it before. Right around 11:30, oh man.

The production quality on the blu-ray is great, but I was disappointed that there was no video of the performance.

I never played the original P4, and this game has me 100% in its hooks. Playing in very hard to offset what I hear is a reduced level of difficulty due to shuffle time being different (?), and so far I'm finding it just the right level of challenge. Also, the cast is fucking awesome, and there is so much to do.

Rob said on the podcast once that this series is like chocolate and peanut butter. He's right.

I played the demo for this some more, and I think I might try renting it. (wah want PC version). What I've seen from later in the game looks pretty solid, if absurd. I'm feeling a bit warmer towards it after having played and loved DmC.

Won't be playing this game anymore, but I did laugh my ass off at this picture and thought the rest of you would enjoy:
