I think that reviewers being paid for reviews on this is a reasonable guess, or at very least a possibility for IGN since it baaaarely glazed over its plot, and seemed to praise the dialogue like nothing was wrong with it.
Please stop talking. You don't have to agree or even like the reviews but accusing every single reviewer that gave DmC a decent score corrupt is idiotic.

I didn't accuse every single reviewer that gave it a decent review of doing that, it just seems too "convenient" for me.
I could understand even giving it a positive review, but having its story pretty much overlooked is suspicious to me and thinking that some reviews may be influenced by Capcom giving incentive is reasonable.

Why not?  I couldn't care less about the story in a game like that.  It could have the plot of Bad Dudes for all I care, as long as the gameplay itself is good.  Also, I have to laugh every time I see that game companies buy people off.  It's a giant conspiracy theory, based on everything I've seen.  The only time I ever see the concept of pay for review is in the world of mobile games, where developers will pay outlets for publication space. Fact of the matter is, a lot of people love DmC, you just might not be one of them.  And that's A-OK.

A thousand times this, John.

I've gotta run a soldier. There is no combo better than Soldier and the ORIGINAL Mattock in ME2:

Oh look, lots of people.

*Adrenaline Rush*

*Double-Tap heads*

Well, everything is dead now.

I was a huge fan of vanguarding in 1-- grab the mattock, buff up, use carnage, LOL at everything. I remember being able to drop the big guys (armatures?) in like one shot in the endgame. Man, I enjoyed those games a lot.

As much as the cynic in me would like to agree that reviews are often "bought," I just don't accept that explanation. Reviewing is completely subjective. My friends tell me the dialogue in CoD is awesome, and I want to smash them.

I always play an Infiltrator in Mass Effect.  There's just something terribly satisfying about completely breaking almost every combat encounter in the game.

Snipe.  Snipe.  Snipe.

Oh shit, somebody is coming close to me.

Cloak and run to the other side of the map.

Snipe.  Snipe.  Snipe.

Hello good sir Vanguard charge would like to talk to u.
*ME3 Addendum: Vanguard charge -> Nova -> Charge -> Nova

Shadow Broker was some boss nasty DLC. Especially the part with the

Will Ferrel movies. I have disliked every one I have seen. The most divisive seem to be Elf and Anchorman. I thought both were awful and unfunny. It seems most people think otherwise. Baffling.
I have yet to see Stranger Than Fiction and The Other Guys. Both I've heard are good even for peopel who don't like Will Ferrel. We'll see.

I hate Will Ferrell, too. He was funny in the first movie he did, and then he kept playing that character over and over and over and over and over and over again. And then he cloned himself and created John C. Reilly, who played the same character from Will Ferrell's first movie over and over and over and over and over and over again. Until Dr. Stephen Brule, of course.

I've only seen Paranormal Activitiy 3, and in all honesty I enjoyed it. It was a refreshing kind of movie to watch.

Toy Story 1-3 are all fantastic, I think. I also loved Dumb and Dumber. Though I agree that Jim Carrey is really at his finest when his character isn't a goober. I think his serious roles are pretty fantastic.
My favorite 'divisive movie' is Garden State. 50% of my friends hated it when I made then watch it, the other half thought it was great. It all comes down to whether or not you like deadpan humor and last year's indie hit songs.

I finished Sol Trigger in Japanese, and it was pretty good. It was a dungeon crawler, but the art design was pretty good, the music was solid, and the story (the 65% of it that I could understand) was your typical anime kitsch. I'm surprised XSeed hasn't grabbed it for a quick turnaround, especially since they did Unchained Blades. Then again, it's like a solid 7 for me, and I'd imagine they have their hands full elsewhere, with things on platforms that will probably sell much better.

That said, this year I'm looking forward to:

- Etrian Odyssey IV
- SMT IV
- Tales of Xillia
- Fire Emblem (now that the demo has blown me away)
- PSO2 (though technically I've played the JP version so I already know it's awesome)
- Soul Hackers
- Crossing my fingers for Bravely Default

Cautiously interested in
- FFXIVARRmatey
- Celceta
- South Park

So yeah, lots of stuff this year. Deep down in my heart I want Atlus and Index to announce a surprise sequel to Radiant Historia and I want it to be as awesome as the first one was with better combat.

EDIT:

Also just to give John a chance to bruise my soul, I also would love to see a re-release of Shadow Hearts. (I KNOW IT CAN'T HAPPEN JUST LET ME DREAM, DAMMIT)

Yeah, you can get it straight from the news post-- just click the direct link to Random Encounter, and you'll see that it's an MP3. You can also grab the straight MP3 from the podcast tab on the tab of the site nav.

Well, I missed this. Thanks for posting it! I sure would love to see them release a Chrono Cross album funded via Kickstarter. Of course, it would get smashed into pieces by SE's legal team so fast your eyes would be flashing OCREMIX FF6 KICKSTARTER all over again.

This podcast is hosted by Brett Elston, a Capcom employee who handles most of the community outreach and stuff. His regular co-hosts Chris Antista and Henry Gilbert are his PICs, as well, and they're all hilarious. The show plays VGM, and they discuss it and tell stories of 'the good old days' of VGM, like recording your game music to cassette tapes from the TV. If you love VGM, I highly recommend this.

I had hoped once this game came out and (if) it got good reviews, people would stop and accept that while it may not be the game they were hoping for, it's still a good one.

Evidently I was wrong, because we now have scholarly theses on "why this reviewer doesn't get it."

That's because a bunch of people in forums and the gaming press genuinely thought that the main reason why fans have a problem with DmC was only because of the white hair thing, which I don't know when it started in the first place. Either way is good that there are fans commited enough to make those long post making clear why DmC despite being an OK game has the problems that it has.

Another traditional DMC is unlikely to happen.  That team was busy working on Dragon's Dogma, which is probably why DmC was handed off to Ninja Theory.  They're now working on Dragon's Dogma 2 for next-gen consoles (which I am really excited about).

A lot of people still doesn't seem to know that Dragon's Dogma is the reason why DMC5 wasn't made (not yet anyway).

I agree that it's great that there are passionate fans, but I just don't think it's fair to Ninja Theory, since by all accounts they appear to have made a good game. Disappointment that it isn't what they expected is totally fine, but to slam the game for not being something it never claimed to be just seems to be missing the point.

That said, perhaps you'll see a DMC5 in the future. Capcom certainly is scrambling to build up good press among 'hardcores,' especially with their Megaman push.  Though on the other hand, all the meh/hate towards RE6 didn't say nearly as much to them as 'DOLLA DOLLA BILLS, YALL' did when the game sold well. So who knows. Incidentally, I just bought DMC3/4 on PC :)

Our End of the Year Spectacular episode of Random Encounter is now live!  Enjoy!!

Trying to download it, can't get it to work :/

What's it doing? Where are you trying to get it from? I just checked iTunes and the main link on the site and both seem to be working for me.

Yes, everyone gets it, hardcore DMC fans: you miss the high-level play and other aspects of the series that are purportedly missing in DmC. It sucks when a series you love is redesigned. You think I'm happy that 2D Castlevania is now Mirror of Fate? Nope. But them's the breaks.

Stop telling people they're wrong for enjoying the new game. Skip it, hope Capcom makes another 'old-style' DMC, and stop raining on people's parade. I can't stand how much of a need there is for "people to realize why Brad is wrong! Or how silly it is that IGN's review was bought because obviously the game has absolutely no merit whatsoever!"

(Also this wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but rather the general sentiments I'm seeing across 'dawebz')

Actually my training is two fold...

First goal, look like this.

Second goal, which is sort of the real drive to look like that (albeit without the mask and with hair) is to ask a girl whom I've had a crush on for quite some time out.

FIRST YOU WILL BECOME A MAN. AND THEN I WILL KILL YOU.
