im gonna have to disagree. i dont know many FFT fans that also play fire emblem. at best FFT fans played the FFTA series and maybe tactics ogre LUCT.

FFT was the game that got me to fall in love with SRPGs. One rental, and I was hooked.

And then the same thing happened again when I played Fire Emblem (Blazing Sword) on the GBA.

The SRPGs that fail to do it for me though are the ones that require grinding for the sake of grinding. Disgaea and its ilk are all about inflating your numbers as high as you can. It's the SRPG equivalent of a treadmill. FFTA likewise demands massive amounts of grinding for little to no gain, given just how many abilities in those games are carbon copies of one another (how many spin attacks does one need?).

This all over.

Pretty sure that's not it. I've heard stuff about it for quite a while that there are legal issues involved. I don't follow it closely enough to pinpoint exactly what those are, unfortunately.

Also, laziness? Seriously? How many games have these guys released that probably sold like garbage, yet they continue to release them? I'm pretty sure retranslating Persona was a signficant investment for what I'd consider an inferior game. Why would they suddenly decide, after releasing almost everything they produce locally, that they're too lazy to do this one?

Capcom can't release Megaman Legends on the PSN for legal reasons as well. Is that laziness? Nope. It's because they don't have the rights to digitally reproduce the voice work, so they'd have to re-record the entire game, and then you'd have people bitching about how it's not true to the original and they'd probably not make that much money on it to make it worth it.

TL;DR Atlus deserves a little more credit than I think you're giving them.

Nintendo also apparently has at least a decent enough relationship with Bamco to let them work on Smash Bros, so I don't think it's out of the question that you could see a Bamco-sanctioned, Nintendo-published, Monolith Soft-developed BK3, yeah?

Part of the reason I loved FFT so much WAS because you could abuse the game. It gave you complete freedom to operate within its systems, and it hasn't been repeated in an SRPG since, not even FFTA/2. Chaos is fun.

Also, I tend to not enjoy whimsy (or anything made by NIS, just not to my taste), so I really couldn't get into Disgaea. The plot, characters, and music in FFT (along with the gameplay) had me hooked on every single level. It's not that I don't recognize that Disgaea scratches an itch (and does it well) for many people, it's just that I don't think I have that particular itch.

Other than the stupid dream demons (give me party members!), I thought KH3DS had great combat. The world design and plot were god awful though, among the worst in the series: worlds were basically skinned boxes for you to jump around on with really half-ass Disney 'stories.' It was like 20 hours of filler and then a two hour cutscene that only further obfuscated things. I miss Donald and Goofy as party members, too.

Agee with Dark Dawn basically being a retread; I hope it gets a sequel, though.

Listening to the podcast; for anyone who wants to play this in multiplayer: download Hamachi.
Hamachi solved the problems I've had with playing with others.

https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx

(For people who don't know, Hamachi creates a VPN network between multiple people making it seem like everyone is in a LAN)

You're a gentleman/woman and a scholar.

Tactics, hands-down, in every single aspect.

Wow, sweet! Not much, but at least it's still in development. Digging the updated character models. FFX is a game that would be welcome on my Vita, goofball cast and all.

Finally picked this up last night. I will probably put Fire Emblem aside to play it, since I've only ever played the first dungeon in P4G and have heard great things about the story.

Most people are saying it's a PSone Classic, as there are legal issues that prevent the full remake from being released.

Womp womp.

Picked up P4G at last, today. Looking forward to starting it this week.

You know, the more I play this-- and I'm enjoying it, by the way-- the more it seems to me that the story is utter crap. Events just happen with little or no justification and seem just like setups for the awesome cutscenes. Like
Code:
The arena fight in Ferox? Oh, hi, we just met but u fight for me for my political position?

Also so far, the character conversations haven't been nearly as interesting as anything I've seen in other games with skits. This game gets a bit of a pass, I suppose, since there's so many of them, but at least up to A rank I haven't really felt like I've read anything... interesting, between some of my characters. As a gameplay mechanic they're great and give me SOMETHING to personify the people, but I have to say once I got over the initial awesomeness of the presentation, I feel like I'm reading a Saturday-morning cartoon.

The rings look nicer than a big list. They have less room for text. It's a tradeoff.

I really need to play it.

I can certainly see a lot of the complains you bring up, Mesh, especially the hacking minigame.  I'm just loving this game's atmosphere and sense of place far more than anything else I've played in a long time.  The Von Braun feels alive and full of character.  This is the reason I loved the Spencer mansion in the original Resident Evil and Rapture in Bioshock.  The Ishimura was the closest thing to a living world since, but even that felt cold and sterile compared to the eeriness of the Von Braun.

Well, in the Ishimura's defense, it WAS cold and sterile. Until the hit shit the fan.
