Unfortunately the level design is pretty weak, enemy layout and versatility isn't really there, there are bugs and visual glitches all over the place, there's no save or password feature, and yet the game remembers when you've picked up an E-Tank and will not respawn one should you game over and go through the area again. The boss fights are pretty good though.

Its definitely a fan game that needed more time in the oven, but its one that got Capcom USA's backing which is disappointing but not infuriating thanks to being offered for free.

I actually disagree on a couple of your points. I think the level design is quite solid, especially Dhalsim's level. I love the bosses, too-- though I will say the game as a whole is a bit easier than MM9/10 and a bit closer to MM3/4. I do think the lack of a save feature is disappointing, but hey, it's a good start to bringing Megaman back. Plus, with all the Megamans coming to 3DS virtual console, I happy.

You know Platinum always includes an easy mode for you guys, right? Bayo and Vanquish both had one. Or recent Capcom fighters with beginner control mode. Technically competent action games are not synonymous with high difficulty or skill cap, it's not either or. DmC could be a more technically competent game with a higher skill cap and you could still enjoy it.

It's not like improving those technical aspects of a game would ruin your casual experience if there's easy modes and such for you, so why hate on others opinions? Skilled gamers have a stronger case for why dumbing down games is bad, because while you can play a high skill cap and technically competent game at a casual level (provided there is an easy mode or whatever), you can't play a low skill cap and technically incompetent game at a high level.

Oh and "just another hard action game"? I don't think you realize how vanishingly rare such games are.

I play literally every single game on its maximum difficulty and have quit games for feeling like too much of a breeze. I'm not at all concerned with an "easy mode." I wasn't talking "hard action" as in "challenging" but as in "brutal, intense." I played and enjoyed DMC1 and 3 on every difficulty level and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'm not looking for a "casual experience," and rarely am, I'm looking for a game that isn't a rehash of DMC1, and that's literally what every single game in this genre has felt like to me.

And they're not that rare. Five Devil May Cry games, two Bayonettas, and a Metal Gear?

And in all honesty, the challenge is part of what made me check out the Touhou series; bullet hell games are indeed great. That said, I also don't buy into the hardcore fighting crowd and never have-- not because of challenege, but because playing on that level basically amounts to finding the best way to cheese the mechanics and beat your opponent, and that isn't fun to me.

Who cares, you all suck for not buying Vanquish. :(

I did think that game looked pretty cool.

Fair enough. I'm not one for super hard action games either, so I can relate.

Yeah, exactly. And it's not that I think they're bad outright, it's just a kind of style that doesn't appeal to me. Sort of like how I love the Uncharted series, but I can appreciate why someone else wouldn't. It's scratches a very particular itch.
905  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on: December 15, 2012, 03:50:34 PM
Like it? It's not even out yet. :P

Answering with a quote from the DmC thread:

I just played the demo. Liked it way, way more than DMC4/Bayonetta/MGS Reveangengeancnecne.

I think that Taelus is insane for liking DmC more than all the other games he mentioned but to each his own.

Also played it (meaning Revenganernance) at E3. Really can't stand it. It's just another hard action game with a Metal Gear skin. Certainly will appeal to a certain set of people, but I can't stand that 'YO DAWG DANTE'S ACTION FRAMES ARE ALL FUCKED UP IN THE NEW GAME AND THE HITBOXES ARE WAY OFF' kind of criticism. It's like people who bitch about professional-level tactics in fighting games. Sure, there's room for people who enjoy that kind of experience, I'm just not one of them. Other than DMC1 and 3, I haven't liked a game in that genre, to be honest.

I wish I liked this game more. What killer packaging.

Based on their comments about keeping covenants, the world style, and switching to a server-based system for multiplayer, it sounds like the basic structure is staying the same.

Messaging and story being "less subtle" has to be the worst possible way to phrase your intentions.

Morality system is interesting, if it's not heavy-handed WILL YOU MURDER THE KITTENS? I'd prefer to see it implemented by your actions-- for example, if you invade and kill another player, you get BAD MORALITY. I'd be fine with that, it would work a lot like sin from Dark Souls.

I'm cautiously optimistic. They're being honest about making the game more accessible, so I can respect that, at least. As long as it isn't made less challenging and some of the mystery remains, I can get behind trying to bring new players in by making it more welcoming, at first.

I enjoyed Vanguard in ME1. Get overload (or whatever it's called)  and an awesome shotgun, then laugh as you one shot everything.

I'm not big on remakes but if there's a game that could really use one I'd say it's Xenogears.  Mainly because
1) gameplay needs tweaking.  you should be able to skip or speed up text speed, battles, etc.  it's too slow and I think some speed up or skip options would make the game much better.  this is the main thing keeping me from doing a 2nd play
2) disk 2 should be fixed.  this would require a ton of new content like new towns/dungeons and stuff though.

I'd play a lavishly-produced AAA Xenogears in a heartbeat. I hated the original's "game" aspect, but the music and story... yum.

In other words, it is counter to their belligerent "artistic integrity" stance of refusing to admit any sort of missteps in the finale's design process.

Still, that's a shame. It was an interesting interview.

NO BESTHESDA'S WRITERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH FALLOUT 1 OR 2

Sorry, I went temporarily insane. I love Fallout 1 and 2, and I liked Fallout 3 a lot, but I don't think Besthesda's engine is in any way equipped to handle the awesomeness that is F1/2.

I like it so far. I love the writing, but that surprises me in no way. I'm also glad I played some tabletop RPGs for the first time last year, or some of the game systems would make no sense to me. If you've ever liked tabletop, I think this might make you very happy.

Just picked this up. Anyone else?
