I have. The music is awesome, and it's quite an extensive demo-- I'm very impressed with it. The new graphical overhaul keeps the same style but manages to make it very fresh.

If it did, people wouldn't be paying ridiculous prices for Suikoden 2 at this point in time.

Suikoden 2 is still not on PSN right? That's ridiculous.

Yeah true, not everything gets reprinted-- but I think in cases like Suikoden 2, it wasn't going to get a reprint anyway, yeah? Still, I see where you're coming from. And no, it's not on PSN yet-- I think it's a rights issue in the US, like with Megaman Legends (although that game's issue has to do with the licensing for the voice acting). I'm playing S2 for the first time now and tracking it down was a colossal pain in the ass.

It also really, really really needs a better translation.

This.

What I'm reading is: "Our games are totally better than those old relics, you just can't see it through all those rose tinted glasses you're all wearing. Also Nomura is totally a cool dude, stop hatin' on him guys!"

What I read is: "Stop being a dick about modern FF titles. We got the message."

Hey now, I totally enjoyed FFXII (barring its flaws) back when it came out. Granted, if I wanted to play a JRPG that features wide open environments and encourages exploration today I'll play Xenoblade, but back then FFXII was almost the closest we got to that since the SuperNES era (DQVIII was better but I had already beaten it by then). I didn't have any problems with the Gambit system and I enjoyed the idea of not having to remember to steal from enemies when I fight them (except for the fights where you need to steal multiple times for good, one chance at them items) or having to keep an eye on my HP to know when to pop a potion (or to at least query up a potion that'll never be used as I'm cheaply stunlocked to death due to an exploit in the game's ATB (that FFX-2 also abused)). Plus I enjoyed what plot and characters were there (except for the parts and people that were either lifted straight out of Star Wars or the parts that existed solely to adhere to the Final Fantasy Formula).

Balthier is boss. One of my favorite characters from any Final Fantasy. Heck, Basch was pretty sweet too. I'd reckon that was one of my favorite casts of the series. I would totally love an HD FF XII.

I loved the whole FFXII cast, I just hated that they got barely any meaningful development outside of a tiny bit for Basch, Ashe, and Balthier. I also asked SQEX on Twitter the other day for an HD FFXIIIZJS. That would be awesome.

I didn't know that FFXIII got an Zodiac Job System update as well?

As for cast, my only real beef is with Penelo who's entire role within the plot is to be Vaan's requisite childhood girl next door friend and kidnapped for that one time. Not that I would've preferred her to make a nuisance of herself like most JRPG childhood girl next door friends, but at least it would've been more than just 'being there'.

That last I in the name is International :). And yeah, I get the feeling Penelo may have had more purpose (though who knows, given how badly that c ast was treated) but it was cut. If I recall, that game had a rather tumultuous path to release.

Well, I found that pretty often I'd save my mages MP for tougher monsters and let the rest of my party do the gruntwork. Same method I used in Phantasy Star IV and classic RPGs, too. I love me some magic. Though it DOES suck when they run dry and you're like 'welp.'

You shouldn't need to do that in PS4. Rune won't ever run out of juice, to the point that people give him two shields because he'll always be able to cast SOMETHING and doesn't need a normal attack.

I've beaten PSIV like a zillion times. I dual-shield Rune, and usually use my skills for regular fights (other than the big stuff), but I almost always save my MP. Whether I need to or not isn't really what I was getting it, it's that I just like to do that. Plus, I was being diplomatic :). Once you have Raja you can use Ataraxia and restore TP anyway.

If anything, moving onto a new gen tends to drive prices up for certain games because it means it's definitely not going to get a reprint/re-release.

Except when everything DOES get reprinted in a classics line. And like last year when Atlus re-released all the DDS and SMT games for dirt cheap. I disagree very much that a new console means old classics aren't getting a reprint.

Handhelds aren't useless, though, I agree. And Radiant Historia is awesome.

I will be making both of those same purchasing decisions, Rob.

Also, I have to agree with Dave-- Cage can make these points while still admitting to complicity. And the fact is, his team's games ARE different from just about everything else released, so whether he's failed to deliver or not (and I seriously enjoyed BOTH of their games), he IS doing something different from most developers.

Really, you like Heavy Rain, Crispy?  I think you need to go back and listen to one of our older episodes.  I simply don't have the space to go into how fucking awful that piece of pretentious shit is.

All kidding aside, Heavy Rain tries really hard to do some cool things.  I personally think it fails miserably at just about all of them (how it handles Madison sexuality/vulnerability, the giant freakin' plot holes, generally awful narrative, piss poor acting, etc.) but I think Thomas Wayne said it best when it comes to these things.

Eh, I'm not saying its far and away my favorite game, but I thought it did a very good job of creating tension. For instance, I'm really claustrophobic, so the crawling through the tunnel scene (besides the plot hole of him not pushing the glass aside like a normal person would) freaked me out. I don't think I've ever said "Oh HELL no!" out loud to myself that many times.

But hey, maybe I'm confusing story-induced stress with QTE-induced stress.

I thought it did a great job of this too. Some of the story problems are fair but I really don't see them as worse than the average game or even movie frankly. I thought a couple of the scenes were actually quite moving. It's also the only game my wife actually demanded I play to see what would happen next.

Yeah, the Tunnel scene and the saw scene were unbelievably tense. My roommates were watching when I did the saw scene and we were all like 'AIEEE'

I loved everything about Heavy Rain other than the cheap cut in the clock shop and the true identity of the killer.

I really wanted to like XIII a lot more. I loved the art style and the music and the combat, but the linearity and the cutout characters just killed it for me. I liked a lot of their designs, but their character arcs were totally unrelatable (except maybe Sazh) for me.

I hope the next FF spends a little more time on making the characters likeable. Drama is more effective with some comedy and some likeability! Make me CARE about these characters, then I'll really buy into the melodrama.

You can only crouch in the dark and not be detected, as far as I've seen.

Also I am buying this on day one, holy shit am I excited. <3 Naughty Dog.

EDIT:

Also, depends on the enemy. Clickers are blind and see via echolocation. Runners can see you.

Their only chance to get me to try this game is to send me a beta code.

DO IT, SQUARE.

When they start making Final Fantasies with characters that are memorable again I will start liking them again.
