Although it's not an RPG, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom is a very good PSP visual novel.  Lovely anime art, cool music (love the few vocal themes), branching pathways based on character interactions, but nothing in terms of dungeon crawling or world exploration.

Another non-RPG you might like is Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble.  There's lots of exploring, NPC interaction (whether to talk or pick fights), cool art, music that may suit you, branching pathways... Yeah, I definitely think you should check out Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble.

I definitely +1 the recommendation for Trails in the Sky.  Excellent RPG.

I would vehemently recommend AGAINST Mimana Iyar Chronicle.  That game was an absolute chore to play.  I didn't like it, but there are a few who did.  And what do I know?  I also disliked Fate/Extra.  (My reviews of both are in the site's reviews section.)

And are you looking only for PSP-only games, or are older RPGs on PSN fair game?  I happen to think Legend of Dragoon is a solid JRPG (especially the music), but I'm in the minority there.

Alot of new info I never heard about before, thank alot :D

And yes, seems like Trails in the Sky is my next target.

Thank you Fei for the welcome :)
This site has been one of my favorite.

Excellent suggestions guys, all the games you recommend have very good reviews.
I will definitely check them out once I am done with Fate/Extra (currently playing).

Radiant Historia - three of your requirements. AMAZING RPG, definately worth a try if you can get it still. Doesn't do J-Pop tho.
I totally agree, its my favorite RPG on DS, too bad its a bit underrated and many ppl dont know about it.

An all J-Pop soundtrack is pretty much going to be limited to P3, P4, or TWEWY.

(Also I'd argue that P3's soundtrack's influences were broader than just JPop. The battle themes have a major highlife feel, and there's still a lot of the minimalist ambient, smooth jazz, and krautrock from the other PS2 megaten games).
True, maybe me saying J-POP was a bit of a stretch.
You do put it in a better terms, that is kinda what I liked regarding the music in those games.

Hello everyone,

I am looking for an anime JRPG on my PSP.

I know that there are tons of "anime-ish and 2D" rpgs out there, but what I am looking for is kinda like the Persona series where you have :

1- Well drawn anime style chars.
2- Graphics is like cell-shaded.
3- Lots of running around talking to ppl (wich ususally happens at the school or campus).
4- J-POP music.

To give you an example of what I am looking for:
1- Persona series.
2- Valkyria Chronicles.
3- God Eater Burst.
4- Fate/Extra.

Anything else out there on PSP? (could also check DS titles).

Wow geuss there are good JRPGs on PS3 after all, one guy told me PS3 kinda sucks on this part.

For now I think I will try and check:
1- Valkyria Chronicles : isnt a traditional jrpg but every1 giving it very hi scores.
2- Demon's Souls : same as above.
3- Enternal Sonata / Star Ocean.

However, I am really interested in Resonance of Fate but its getting alot of misxed reviews.
Some ppl say its bad, other say its good but got over shadowed by FFXIII launch.
What got me interested is the battle system wich apearntly is the hi point of the game.
Is everything else bad in this game?

Hello every1 :)

I just bought a PS3 couple days ago and FFXIII.

I can see many of the flaws all ppl been talking about in this game. However, I will most prolly enjoy it neverless since its my 1st RPG game since like 4 years. Last solid rpgs I played were Disgaea 1 and FFX.

Can I get a brief list of JRPG on PS3, or some really good ones on 360. My friend got a 360 and I can borrow it for a short time :D

Old/New games dont matter since I might be able to borrow them from friends.

This topic reminds me of my favorite battle in Brave Fencer Musashi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0fjduTzDtU (<3 the music.)

But, yeah, as an aside, I think this topic is why so many RPG fans also love intense space shooters and music/rhythm games like Ontamarama, Elite Beat Agents, or Guitar Hero, because they satisfy that "trigger happy" jones we don't particularly get from RPGs.

That video reminded me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85u6XP-VQcc . It was a super simple game yet I realy liked it.

And belive me my friend one of the very few things that make me go crazy in games is the "trigger happy" mode (big fan of Guitar Hero).

Well apearntly there is a huge hype on TWEWY on how fresh and innovative it is..etc so guess I will try that one next.

@ Dincrest

I read that XenoSaga I+II got released for DS (currently in JP only). Since I like 2D and anime I was thinking I might wait a bit until it comes to USA (some of the char and enviroment is changed to 2D cos well its on DS). Meanwhile I could try the other games you and the others suggested. What do you think?

you mean button mashing?
would shadow hearts be classified as that?
or do you mean precise button pressing?
if so, I'd recommend legend of dragoon
though it's a little too unforgiving with timing
and you mean button mashing, try any action/real time rpg's
star ocean, tales, kingdom hearts
but you're probably familiar with those already
I didnt exactly mean button mashing nor spesific timing but both, not sure if there is a name for this kind of thing. Bottom line, I need anything other than "click attack --> char goes attack enemy --> char runs back"

I already played Legend of Dragoon and its like one of my favorite of all times, and the timing was perfectly fine for me.

As for the Action RPGs, well they ARE "action" so there is always some kind of clicking during combat. However, I need a turn based or strat.

Vagrant Story instantly comes to mind.
Already did.

Xeno gears/saga?
Xenogears was the first I thought of.  I liked the idea of chaining button presses together to create combos/deathblows.  Also, don't forget Legaia: Dual Saga on PS2.  Resonance of Fate might fit the bill for you too.
Played Both Legaia. Not sure why I havnt played any of the XenoSaga but will check them out. Also Resonance of Fate  seems kick ass, eventhou it got some mixed reviews it might be what I exactly need.

I am looking for a turn based or strategy RPG with alot of clicking during normal attacks to make combos and such. Examples of games are :

1- Legend of Legaia
2- Valkyrie Profile
3- Legend of Dragoon
4- Shadow Hearts
5- Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier

As you can see some of those are a bit old, so if some of the suggestions are old games thats not a problem for me, I also dont mind JP games as long as I can get the translation some. Though I would prefer DS games.

PS : I already played some of FF, DQ, Shin Megami...etc. I am not looking for any of the big names (unless one of those has alot of clicking).
