I'm bumping this b/c I didn't want to draw Dark Souls thread too far off topic, and plus it seems like quite a few people still play this.

(and I have a lot of questions)

My question is I finally got some plate armor but I don't like how my guy just flops on the ground instead of doing a good combat roll. If I boost my agility or endurance will that improve his movement to where he can do a good roll or is it simply impossible to roll in plate?

The info in the manual is scanty. I ask because certain items, like the purple flame shield, require certain stats to use and I was wondering if I had high enough stats I could wear the plate and move like i'm in wizard's clothes.

After working all weekend I got hammered last night. Last thing I remember was pouring the rest of my wine into a 7 and 7....then I woke up at 6am w/ a hangover.

I haven't done shit all day, except attempt to play Demon's Souls. That's not a game you can play casually, let me tell you.

I have some paperwork to do but I feel like Michael Scott in that one Office where he pushed off signing papers until the very end.

So I'm going to go get some hot dogs from Hot Dougs

we watched Billy Madison last night on dvd... I say that because it feels weird to see that movie on anything but a VHS.

Good news.

In a related note I got caught in the crowd after the gay pride parade in Chicago.

It is a good game... I just realized that I'll probably only play fighting games with a group of friends.

I also wish I could return the atari jaguar.

I've never actually taken a game back but there are games I wish I could have.

That robocop v terminator game on SNES comes to mind

I wish I could take back Super Street Fighter 4, because I never will probably play it.

Went to target to get some things.

+1 and I were walking around laughing at dumb shit like highschoolers.

We found this pet brush and on the case it said "you've got to be shedding me!"

We almost pissed our pants laughing at that.

Then I got a step stool out, and I went to the top and farted.

We laughed so goddam hard it probably looked like I was having a heart attack.

I pre-ordered the LOTR extended blu-ray boxset on best buy. it's only 70. regular price is over 100 bux. I don't need to own a lot of movies w/ netflix. But LOTR will get a lot of mileage.

I thought that the chairs at barbershops could be lifted all the way up into the ceiling, like in that old bugs bunny cartoon

I really know how to make contribute.

I go to get my hair did at a "salon school"

Well they give you neckrubs and a scalp massage w/ some scented oil before every cut. This time I had a dude who was gay and fabulous.

At first I was a little tense, you know... having a dude rub me up. This wasn't a typical "ok i need to give you this because that's what we do."
He really put his heart and soul into it...

It was ok I guess.

One of the best damn haircuts I ever had

Thinking the Atari Jaguar was a good decision

I haven't played all of the DLC, just Broken Steel and The Pitt.

Broken Steel is essential to get and download right away right when you start the game, so you can level up to 30 and continue exploring after end game.

The Pitt was pretty lame... I admit to getting it only for achievement point whoring.

Not sure if you can install DLC to a USB.

The file sizes for DLC I have is:
Broken Steel: 621 mb
Operation Anchorage: 370
Pitt: 493

Kind of playing devil's advocate here since I'm generally more fond of Japanese games, but I'm a girl and I've never had a problem with Western art direction. I loved the visuals of the Baldur's Gate games and Planescape Torment, and The Witcher 2 is just about the most impressive looking game I've ever seen. It's true that I do tend toward softer, more cartoonish art, but my (also female) friend swears by a more realistic approach and swoons over the graphics of games like Uncharted and Mass Effect. So I'd be inclined to say it's less of a male-female thing and more one of personal taste.

Now if you're having a go at games for not presenting compelling female characters from a writing perspective a lot of the time, then there I'm with you. But it's something that's getting better and better. And I wouldn't say Western games are any more guilty of it than Japanese ones. Heck if nothing else, Western RPGs usually offer you the chance to play as a girl if you want to, as well as giving you some degree of control over her appearance and personality. Yes there are token bimbos in some Western games, but that's true of Japanese games too. Heck there are plenty of Japanese games that trade either heavily or completely on female sex appeal. Ar Tonelico 3, anyone?

Oh, and reading back on previous posts, was Uncharted being cited as a game that isn't really appealing to women? Really? I thought both Drake and Elena were fantastic, well-rounded leads that would appeal equally to those of both genders. And I had a pretty massive crush on Drake over the two games.

You or your friend wouldn't happen to be single, would you? I love women with brains.

At least be a creep to someone who has more than 11 posts.
5895  Media / General Games / Re: Sonic Generations on: June 23, 2011, 04:05:24 PM
I'm playing this right now too... the game is just downright gorgeous and handles pretty well (feels like a fucking sonic game).

My only complaint is that at certain times when you're moving pretty fast it sort of becomes hard to see details like enemies and platforms. I'm not sure if it's because the backgrounds are super-detailed, it's just a demo, or i'm tired and just having a hard time :)

The remix of the green hill zone theme is bringing some major nostalgic tears to my eye. I was born in 1982 so I was at the right age when sonic first came out to just absolutely freak out about how cool that game was.
