61  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: BEST game you bought on a WHIM and LOVED <3 on: July 07, 2014, 12:28:17 AM
Good topic but hard to say. Soooo many fucking games bout in the 90s before reviews and other things.

The off the cuff winner HAS to be Actraiser. New system. New "series" (IP). And I had no idea what I was getting into. Lo and behold you fucking played as GOD with worshiping minions below... Great sim segments and awesome platforming segments. It really showed what you were in store with for the SNES, better gameplay and streets ahead music. I heard this game is on Virtual Console... I'll have to look into that.

2nd... hmmm... Resident Evil? Technically I didn't buy it but I was there when my cousin brought it home for the 1st time. Neither of us had any idea what was up but we where hooked. To this day, for all it's faults, the Resident Evil series remains one of my favorites.

Lastly, Mass Effect. I bought this game shortly before ME2 came out but I had next to no idea what it was about. I have never played KotoR so I didn't have that pedigree. Even with the clunky combat, clunky inventory I was totally drawn in. I loved the characters. I loved the races. I loved the mythos because it called back to the basic premise of my favorite game ever, Star Control 2. In that game there's a similar situation where there's a cycle of evolution and devastation within the galaxy. Plus, interacting with the races is also hugely important.

With Mass Effect I was aware of it being popular but I never saw any gameplay footage. I was aware of the controversy because of adult themes.

Because of the various reasons of loving these games I tend to avoid long reviews or gameplay vids of things I really want to experience. I can't wait to get a PS4 and play Last of Us remastered because of this.

Oh.. lastyly. Halo. My buddy was lucky enough to have an Xbox. In the right time and place we enjoyed that game inside and out. It was almost a religious experience for us.

These aren't necessarily my favorite games, but games I sort of fell ass backwards into and really defined who I am as a gamer.

So they added Top Chef to Hulu, a show I've been wanting to see for a long time.

The host, Padma, is probably the most beautiful woman I've ever seen

So I rented Transformers: Dark of the Moon because it was filmed here and it shows the city getting blowed up good. Holy fuck these movies are so stupid. It seems like the action was better though, than the 1st two movies. When two robots were fighting you could tell it was two robots and not a big ball of gears spinning around

I'd like to announce the First Annual Hearstone Pro-Am Memorial for Ladies at Yoda's Apartment.

Yeah I love those games.

In all joking aside, have a happy bday. Go grab a beer and a good dinner after work. I've heard excellent things about a place called Legends (BBQ)

Those are pretty good. But it seems sad the artist chose to represent the beleaguered countries as militant

The Swiss one was awesome

speaking of Jupiter:

The big red spot is shrinking

and

Jupiter Ascending is ...descending to theaters in the winter instead of this summer.

I just preordered the Destiny PS4 grundle bundle

I thought D said he was only living with/working with his dad to... basically babysit him.
I did and it's more or less true. He's not an invalid, but there's a significant lack of capabality on his end and I'm pretty much scared that one day I'll come see him in a recliner, dead.

Moving out is beginning to become more of an option though, since both of my sister's now live fairly close to our house. But, as dincrest mentioned, cost of living in new york is pretty ludicrous. Single room apartments in bad neighborhoods generally start at 900 bucks a month, not including electricity which usually averages out in the city to 100 bucks a month and double in the summer when you include an air conditioner. Add internet and phone at about 80 bucks a month each and you're looking at an easy 1200 bucks a month in just standard living expenses. A coworker of mi e ballparked his monthly living costs to 2 grand living in staten island, and he has a 1 bedroom apartment at 1500 a month. Long and short of it is nyc is expensive.

Holy fuck, 1500 a month for a one bedroom in staten island? Fuck that I'd take queens any day.

It's fucking criminal how much "higher" education costs in this country and how necessary it is to having any chance post high school.
