Oh Japan. If it isn't repackaged crap like pokemon/monster hunter/dragon quest then they don't care.

The name of the bad guy
Quote
THE MULE
in one of the books is pretty ridiculous, though.

Yeah you're probably right, Drizzt is a Drow.

I'll look at my friend's goodreads account. The man has read hundreds of scifi/fantasy books in his day.

Old news but this was interesting

I liked both modern warfares for what they were, and I like bad company 2 as well.

Nothing wrong with some solid shoot em up action. But I could never play these long enough to prestige or anything. I think the limit for online time before I grow tired of any game is about 30 hours.

Not that the question was directed at me, but my feeling on the Star Wars books is that there are too many to weed through and pick out the decent ones.  Also, I wouldn't know where to begin, having only seen the movies.

well if that's the issue then Shadows of the Empire and the Heir to the Empire trilogy are awesome reads.

If you REALLY want some trashy sci-fi I recommend THIS

That came w/ the Buck Rodgers C64 game back in the day.

Yeah, I've heard much about the Foundation books over the years. I'm not sure why I haven't read them.
I also think I'm going to finally read Hitchhikers guide. I bought it awhile back, but haven't gotten around to reading it.

A lot of my friends have been trying to get me to read Hitch too. I will soon, it probably has that blend of humor you're looking for.

Curious, why'd you rule out the Star Wars stuff? There're TONS of books and some of them are quite good.

Another direction (though fantasy, sorry) are the Drizzt books. They seem like quick reads and are plentiful, suggesting high adventure type stuff

I agree, the codex in some new RPGs (DA, ME) is an awesome way to delve deeper into the game.

Especially in ME1 with the smooth sci-fi music playing and that dude w/ a good voice narrating along. Learning about council races was never so fun!

I don't know of any star wars but not star wars type books, but the other day i busted out a huge chest of books i read in HS and came across my isaac asimov collection.

The Robot Series (esp robots and empire) and the Foundation series are incredible. They're all quick reads and span the galaxy.
Some of them are out of print (just Robots and Empire, and Foundation and Earth, i think) but should be easy enough to find in the internet age.

They were HARD for me to track down in the 90s w/o a 'puter.

I haven't read the Empire novels but I own them...

Neither, I thought the game was an absolute bore.

I guess a game with a decent story, entertaining dialog, and various approaches to both the story and combat would be boring, right?

I have to say... FF2 is pretty interesting. I was surprised to see some good innovation here for a game this old.

What I like:
~Playing the PSP Anniversary edition the graphics are improved even more so than FF1 was previously. Game looks like a top notch 16bit-er. And there's enough of an improvement from FF1psp ->FF2psp to make it feel like two different games
~Learning key phrases and then asking various NPcs about them. Sure not all the NPCs have responses for all the phrases but it adds something more than running up to people and mashing a button to get through text
~DUAL WIELDING. You can dual wield weapons with seemingly little penalty. My one dude has an axe and a broadsword going and he's fucking shit up. This also helps level crap up faster
~Music: love the battle theme and I'm glad to see new tracks all around. Esp after playing some of the DQ re-releases on the DS which both seem to have the exact same music...which shares a bit of DQ8 as well

SE just released the english version of the trailer:

She mentions another realm, which makes sense considering the ending of the novel. A return to cocoon was already unlikely but I think we can rule out revisiting the same locations like in X-2.

she has a nice butt

Well I played for about 45 min. Ventured too far east and got killed. The distance of about 4 paces changed the monsters I fought from hornets to vampires who dealt like 100 damage and charms.

D'oh!

Goose is on the left! Fall in line, Soldier!

I'm starting up 2 right now. Never played this either on any platform.

Naming my characters. Main guy = Yoda
Chick = Lisa (my cat)
Guy = Goose
Leon = Pipo
