I just watched "Toast". A biography about a Brtish chef (Nigel Slater) and his childhood. I don't think I've watched a biography where I've hated the person it is about so much. Except maybe Hitler. Maybe.
At least Helena Boham Carter was in it, that at least made it bearable.
Don't get me wrong, it was a good programme. But if Nigel Slater is supposed to be in any way likable, I'm afraid they failed rather spectacularly.
Wow I just watched a clip and I couldn't stand him at all. Who does that asshole think he is?
That Top Secret recipes thing is something I always wanted to get into. A couple of years ago a late night show i listen to on 720am had one of the lab chefs on from top secret.
We do a lot of cooking and we try and do a variety of methods. I like to think I'm pretty good but if it's not certain things I kind of move ponderously and slow. Doing stir fry and grillin is my favorite.
My +1 actually cooks the steak better than I and is a whiz w/ soups.
To keep this relevant to the topic, I love watching cooking shows. I think at least 50% of the tv I watch is cooking related.
Argh, I wish my guy liked Soups.... they're one of my favorite things on earth, the ultimate form of combining flavour in a more low-fat method (but I love chunks of chicken or any meat in it).
Unfortunately, I've just started my cooking trials, I made an amazing spinach, cheese, and artichoke dip the other day for some friends. =)
I'm trying to get better at pasta dishes (of all things, I'm at that "I feel like something is missing" phase). But I'm a pro at meats and I make a potato (of whatever variety, baked, mashed, roast, mister potato) unlike you've ever eaten.
I've always had a soft spot when movies show food or some sort of delicious cuisine.
For some reason, even when it's food I recognize, I always feel like the food in flicks always tastes different and amazing to how I'd imagine.
What kind of pasta are you making?
My tips on red sauce: (i'm no pro but this is what people tell me), heat up some olive oil, do your minced garlic and then saute tomato paste for a couple of minutes. this helps to cut down that acid flavor. some sugar helps.
I love tomato paste though. I could eat that shit out of the can.
