Heh, the local mall around here used to have both an EB and a Babbages,  now they are both Gamestops.  That's right, two Gamestops in the same mall within 30 seconds of each other.  There's also another one 3 min down the road!  And they all want to sell me discount cards, extended warrenties, game reservations, blah blah blah.

Same thing in my neck of the woods. Two in the only mall around, one a block away on the same street. One of them called to tell me that my Tactics Ogre pre-order had been cancelled, and I wound up having to go to all three. None of which are the ones closest to me.

I've already been to seven GameStops in my general location, looking for good deals on used games. (Tales of the Abyss w/ everything! Eternal Poison w/ soundtrack disc!). Yet none of them will allow me to pre-order Phantom Brave PSP.

I played the 360 version and enjoyed it. Flawed, but certainly playable.

Yeah, Dormammu is great. I don't have much time to play right now, since I'm working on stuff for the site, but I managed to beat Arcade once with Dormammu, Spidey, and X-23.

I'm most fond of the tail falling down at the end of the Raptor vid. It's the ultimate defeat.

Doesn't matter. The Knight of Lodis isn't crucial to the story of LUCT, especially considering that it was released after the initial LUCT release.

Holy shit...how did I miss this?

I'm reading Simic's The Master of Disguises right now and I hate it. I'm not sure what I expected from it, but despite how vivid his images are, I find little to separate him from the likes of Robert Frost, Billy Collins, or Maxine Kumin.

If you're feeling open-minded, try something from the '90s, it's much better than the most recent Simic. I recommend The World Doesn't End (hey, I like prose poems), or Jackstraws (my personal favorite collection of his). And relating him to Billy Collins? Ouch. Not cool. I don't care for Collins at all. Too simple and mass-market for my tastes.

Problem is, I'm not very good at shooters, especially those where careful placement of characters is key to victory/staying alive.

I pretty much never bothered with positioning unless the tutorial forced me. I suppose it could be critical on higher difficulties, but I'd have to wonder why you'd jump into those when you admit to not being a great shooter fan. I say just play it on Easy and enjoy the experience.

I also didn't really notice much of a learning curve, but the game IS streamlined more than ME1 was, almost to a fault.

Couldn't agree more with Eusis here. I'm awful at shooters, and I just finished ME and started ME2. I played ME1 on Normal, until I hit a part I couldn't beat, then tuned down the difficulty, then brought it back up. That may make me lose gamer cred, but really, who cares? The games are fun enough to make it worth trying something I'm not very good at.

This is funny to me, because every time I go to Gamestop, they call it "Tactics Org" and seem confused about why I am ordering it.

I don't remember *how*, but I used to have an NES, SNES, Genesis / Sega CD, Nomad, and Game Gear. I have zero idea what happened to them and my games for them. But I wish now I had them back - despite eventually getting a new SNES and Genesis.
12  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: February 10, 2011, 03:23:14 PM
That. Never. Happened.  At least not in my world.

Actually, I have to say, that book wasn't much good either.  But still, William Goldman!  If it's true that "nobody bats 100%" (that saying really doesn't work if you write it down), that's the movie where Goldman made a wild swing, tripped, got hit in the head by the ball, and smacked the umpire with his bat. :(

I KNOW! It's like..."Butch Cassidy, The Princess Bride, Misery...Dreamcatcher?" How does that even happen?
13  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: February 10, 2011, 01:43:13 PM
Well, you know - Stephen King movies have their own special sub-set of rules. :)  Namely, if he writes the movie, it'll stink.  If someone else does, it'll be good.

This is a lie. The worst movie I've ever seen (ever) is a Stephen King movie written by someone else. It is called Dreamcatcher. And it is awful. And it was (co-)written by William Goldman, believe it or not.

The Disgaea PSP ports are pretty good.
15  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of Graces confirmed for NA on: February 03, 2011, 08:05:18 PM
Namco is probably bringing Graces F over to gauge whether bringing over Xillia and/or Abyss 3DS would be worth it as well.

I've heard the same. Actually I heard that the formula that there using to determine whether Xillia comes over is that however many units ToGf sells in NA, it needed to sell a thousand more copies for them to bring Xillia over. :-/
