^ bit of a drag. ;/

He has a communication network he can run alone, that does not use any traceable communication architecture and yet can stay in touch with plenty of people anonymously.
He's also a hacker, plastic surgeon, pharmaceutical expert and the world's best brainwasher.

He RIPPED A GIRL'S EYE OUT, KEEPS IT AS A SOUVENIR AND A DAY LATER SHE LOVES HIM AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIM.

Did I mention that he's also still very young? Like 20s.

+

And the bad guy? He's a genius engineer + surgeon with underground facilities that can become invisible, control his hue and make people's hue clear just by talking to them.

The guy transplanted the girl's eye on himself and it works fine... (yes... incredibly possible)

He's also a weapons engineer, robotic expert, programmer, server administrator and game maker now too.

Seriously, who wrote this villain?

The main girl (Akane from s1) isn't even doing anything except dancing in the palm of the bad guy's hand and getting humiliated repeatedly, episode after episode (so that's 6 entire episodes of that).
Why would I want to watch this?

I'm dropping this officially...

I think this season they have been going for action over story.  Season 1 had some very violent things in it as well but this one feels like it's every single episode they are trying for a gorefest.

The villian is pretty absurd though.  I hate how he can always escape so easily from crime scenes.

A shoehorned love story. etc etc. etc.

Dude... there was a prologue dedicated JUST to how they met. o_o

I'd also argue it was one of the rare games that DIDN'T just make it a normal love story; for one, Lenneth was leading the reigns on it than some magical RPG waif getting doe-eyed for her hero.

Take Lucian out (or replace him with literally any random person in the prologue) and it's exactly the same game.  He's exists for sappy "pull on heart strings" apeal.

You could just as easily replace him (after the prologue) with Arngrim and have it be exactly the same.

Your opinion is invalid cause Icicle Disaster

My problem with Hyperdimension Neptunia is not the fan service but the fact that the characters go on and on about nothing all the time. I don't know if it is the translation or if it was written like that in Japanese but the jokes are almost never funny and it feels like they are talking just for the sake of talking not because they have anything to say. How does this game compare to that? Is it the same or have they improved on that? Also in HDN Victory which is the one I have played I got lost several times when you had to do a quest from the guild quests to progress the story for some reason even when those quests had nothing to do with the story and those quests didn't have the big "EVENT" icon that regular story quests had. It could be a regular kill quest like "kill 5 bats" or whatever. Does this game do that as well?

I've only played mk2 not Victory but I don't think the characters have a problem with blathering on constantly in this game.  The story scenes seem pretty short and not needlessly wordy or long.  I greatly prefer the story in FFF to Mk2 that's for sure.  As for getting lost, I think that is pretty much impossible in FFF.  You'd have to be blind.  It has a big EVENT! icon over the location you need to go to on the world map and when you're in a dungeon if you pull up the map it will show an event icon for the boss location.  All quests from the guild are completely optional for completing the main story.  You could ignore it completely if you want.  So no, you won't have to kill 5 bats to proceed the story ;)

Hmm since this topic is here....

What good PS1 RPGs are available on PSN for download?  Other than FF games and games I already have from PSN which are Xenogears, Threads of Fate, Wild Arms 1&2, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia

I beat the game once on normal with no guide then I played on hard with a guide for true ending.  Hard has some really cool dungeons you don't get on normal mode.  Great game

good review Discrest.  :)

one thing from the review:
" I often felt the camera was panned too close and wished I could move it further back to get a better view of my surroundings. "

There is a way to do this.  If you press up or down on the d pad it will zoom in or out.

Also, did you take 50+ hours to clear the game once?  That's a lot longer than most people if so.  Did lots of side quests I guess?  Most people take 20-30. I tend to take my time in RPGs and it took me 32 to beat the first time and 60 to beat 3 times and beat all the optional stuff.

waiting for price drop cause Atlus thinks it's cool to charge $50 for a 3DS game

I've beaten it and I liked it a lot.  I did 3 playthroughs which is rare for me to do back to back.  The game is really replay friendly thanks to being able to skip events and attack animations with L2, and you can run past basically all enemies and head straight for the area boss.  The main bad thing is the amount of environment/dungeon recycling is pretty ridiculous.  The frame rate also seems to be consistently garbage while you're running around.

Cheesy is fine, boring is not fine.  Of course, what I find boring or not is up to my subjective opinion.  :P  As for the combat, I can't even remember how the boost system worked.  I just remember combat moving really slow.  Maybe it just felt that way for some reason, I don't know.  Been quite a while.
11  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The one (rather popular) RPG series i havent tried.... on: September 27, 2014, 12:31:51 AM
I borrowed the trilogy from my friend and quit the 1st game after about 20 hours.  It's like watching a 3D anime.  Combat is slow and dull.  I also thought the characters were annoying and the story wasn't grabbing me.  There was basically nothing about it I liked but it was just barely entertaining enough that I played it as long as I did.  There's nothing especially positive or noteworthy about it from my experience.  Maybe the other episodes are better but I didn't try them (though the 2nd one is bad supposedly).

I do like Xenogears and Xenoblade.  Xenogears has some rather archaic stuff about it but it has a strong story.  Combat is nothing special but it's still better than xenosaga 1's combat -_-

I got Fairy Fencer F.  I probably won't start it till this weekend.  Not a Compile Heart fan but I'm giving them another shot cause this one looks/sounds better than their other stuff to me.

Battle Princess of Arcadias is pretty fun btw but I can understand people not liking it.  It could certainly use some polishing up but I had a good time with it.  It's more of a beat em up than an RPG.  Other than having a fantasy setting it's really not any more an RPG than Senran Kagura is.  Better than Witch and Hundred Knight imo.
