I can't relate to that at all.
Think of it this way: how exasperated would you be if a game was full of character designs that you loathed? Everyone has certain tastes when it comes to character designs (for example, Testuya Nomura's designs really kill many of the more recent FFs for me). If you like them, that's fine. Not all people are going to.

In that case I most likely wouldn't play the game in the first place.  I guess it's different when you're a reviewer and you have to play games with artwork that doesn't match your tastes.

Agreed with Eusis. Though I would say there are very, very few games where I would say huge breasts and/or skimpy clothing is appropriate (either parodies or other select games that usually aren't serious in tone). Enjoyable to look at? Mostly. But I don't play games for that. If I want to see that, I can choose other forms of media. Plus, I've seen so much of it over the years it's more of a "not this again" response.

I can't relate to that at all.

good review.

I really wonder sometimes if you have any reviewers who aren't bothered by women wearing flashy clothes/having large breasts though -_-

Sounds good.  I think the game will do fine.

You should really chill out man.  It's not he end of the world that you couldn't hype the game here a week ago.

that's ok but the less damage the better.  It's also faster if you have more characters hitting for 1dmg each turn
233  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: UnchainBlade ReXX on: July 24, 2012, 10:55:27 AM
I got distacted by the damage level icons and thought some monsters needed to be well below half life to get unchained but now I think its fine as long as they are under 50%.  I also didnt realize I could attack bare handed.  So an effective way seems to be....

1)Unequip your weapons on some chars (preferably weak atk ones like lapis) so you do 1dmg with normal attack
2)Get enemy below half life
3)Set everyone who still has a weapon to guard
4)Characters with no weapon keep hitting for 1dmg till unchain appears.  Most likely an unchain will appear well before it dies.

You mean waist deep not "waste" lol

Good review.  I didn't find the game very difficult though.  I think it depends a lot on what characters you use in your party and how thorough you are in your exploration.  The only things I had trouble with were judgement battles and the Lucius chapter.  Other than that I never got killed by normal enemies or bosses except for the very first boss and a rare fairy enemy in Tortuga.  It seemed like by the time I got to each boss I was so strong it would be hard to lose.  But like I said, I took my time and suspect that fang/tiana/lapis/mari is a pretty hard to kill party.  cleared bit over 70 hours

I suspect about 10 of those hours are unintended grinding while trying to get followers.for stupid judgement battles though.  Doesn't help that I didn't realize an easier unchain method till I'd already cleared the game >__<

Yea.  Barely any reviews even.  I think a lot of people are missing out and don't know it

My original point was less to rail on the artwork and more on wondering if the rest of the game made up for it; which it looks like it does.

It stops with the artwork unless this is an exception to the 5 other Growlanser games I've played.  I don't think I've seen the words "boobs/breast/etc" even once while playing these games.  This isn't some NIS game where they make flat chest jokes every 10 minutes.  There is virtually no sexual content beyond the artwork itself.

Oh jeeze, lots of posts. Well I've played Devil Survivor 2 and Disgaea. I thought Disgaea was FAAAAR to complicated for me, but I do LOVE Devil Survivor 2. I might check this one out. I'm a sucker for a good relationship system.

The battle system of Growlanser is much less complicated than games like Disgaea and FF Tactics.  And unlike most tactical / strategy RPGs, it does not use a rigid grid-based system; you choose the path you want the characters to follow and they advance in real-time.

I dunno about it being more or less complicated but I do know that growlanser requires actual strategy and disgaea doesn't

Klyde - do check out riviera.  Its the only story/character focused game in the series.  The other dept. Heaven games all have a strong combat focus.  Has relationship building and ending for each party member like growlanser
