Made it partyway through Ch. 6 today. I hate Axel. Hated him in 2, hated him in cameo in 3, hate him now. I fail to see how this "thing" survived as a concept; let alone as such a popular "character" as he seems to be.

+ 1 for Axel hate

I just got vulcanus.  I'm on chapter 6 I guess?  Feels like I have a lot of story characters compared to the other games for being this far in

As for the difficulty, I ran into a bit of a snag against one of the very early bosses but other than that any grinding I've done has been because I wanted to, not because I needed to (and I really haven't been grinding a lot).  The problem was mostly my equipment not my level up.  I think a big reason why I'm not having trouble is that I'm making sure to upgrade the shop and only buying equipment for my best few characters.  The others have been mostly fodder to take hits for me and such and get equiped with any crap I pick up from stage reward bonuses.  The story maps seem better set up than they were in 3.

Also, I like the dub for the most part and I've been playing with it (I played 3 in japanese btw).  Chief of Bureau sounds like a man and I think a lot of the class voices are crap (witch/succubus/archer/etc).  The story characters that you hear talking most of the time are well voiced though IMO.

It looks like Disgaea 4 has almost the same humor level as Disgaea 2 has. Disgaea 1 has a high humor level like Disgaea 3. However, like Disgaea 2, Disgaea 4 has the same dramatic feeling to it. MOREOVER, its opening theme is as beautiful as Disgaea 2's.

I see a pattern here.

exactly what I didn't want to hear.  oh well I should be getting it soon

Well, it's official; NISA has taught me never to buy games from anyone other than Gamestop ever again.

I thought I read that wrong at first.  Usually I see people say they AREN'T buying from gamestop again (and I'm one of those).

I'm more concerned about the story/humor than the gameplay.  Disgaea 2 fell really flat with me in that category, partly cause the main characters didn't have funny personalities

I've got it pre-ordered on amazon.  Should be fun

fuuka is the best

I'm interested but I need to know more about it.  This game could be ass for all I know.

-Growlanser Heritage of War (both included titles, PS2)--- Dripping with anime esque' goodness

You probably mean Growlanser Generations (Growlanser2&3 pack).  Heritage of War is only 1 game

1. Panzer Dragoon Saga - there's nothing else like it.  The story is excellent, the world is unique, and the battles are short and sweet.
2. Shining Force 3 - fun SRPG battles and with cool characters and lots of secrets
3. Skies of Arcadia - as others have said, likable characters and a very fun world to explore
4. Dragon Force - extremely addicting SRPG with multiple playable protagonists
5. Riviera -  fun characters, good music, cool dating sim esque choices that affect events and the ending
6. Infinite Space - excellent story, lots of customization
7. Valkyrie Profile - great music, awesome battle system
8. Growlanser V/VI - amazing artwork, good stories and characters, excellent combat system

It's been quite a while since I've played many of these so my order might change a bit if I replayed them.  Also, if you consider Shenmue an RPG I'd slip it right above Skies of Arcadia.

I really like Gundam X as well.  It's my 2nd favorite after G gundam.  I also thought that the ending was a cop out with regard to the newtypes, but otherwise it was good.  I liked how they managed to have an excuse for a battle to happen in every single episode (or at least I think there was).

It's kinda a tease if the game has visible encounters but you can't really avoid them.  I don't like that.

This is coming from someone who has barely seen any of the UC Gundam stuff but I'm not particularly fond of Gundam Unicorn.  The battles are very cool but I don't like the characters.

The Gundam 00 movie is kinda weird.  It's mostly just flashy stuff but the story actually does continue where season 2 left off.  The story for the movie is not all that complicated, and I actually felt the movie could have been shorter...there is actually too much action in my opinion, and most of the action is not mobile suit vs mobile suit so it is not as cool.  I wouldn't call it bad though, it makes sense at least (or I thought it did anyway) and the new gundam designs are cool.

I'm interested in this but I'm concerned about the combat system.  From the videos I saw and what little I've read it sounds like it has a rock paper scissors based combat system.  It's not good for a single player game to have a combat system based highly on guessing.  Plus, maybe this is just me but I fail to see the reason for a turn based combat system in a game where you only control 1 character during combat.

Of course, these are just my initial impressions and may be incorrect.

Well....I know you guys were re-rolling your stat bonus when making your hero.  That's basically the same as reloading your file when you get a ridiculously bad level up.
329  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Now is the perfect time for SEGA to announce the Shenmue HD Collection on: June 07, 2011, 08:59:48 PM
I don't see how the gameplay has aged at all.

Agreed, I played through them again a year or two ago and they were just as good as ever.  I'd take Shenmue over Yakuza anyday.
330  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Wizardry on the PS3 being localized, hell frozen over on: June 07, 2011, 08:55:46 PM
today I learned that a character can become "lost" if you fail a revival and then they are gone forever.  yet another stupid game mechanic to make me reload the file lol

Also I wish I hadn't made a priest and a bishop now.  Wish I just had 2 bishops instead >_>  too lazy to grind a replacement for the priest though
