I just finished watching Shiki and I thought it was really good.  For those who don't know, it's about vampires killing people in a small japanese town and the people trying to figure out what's causing all the deaths.  I was totally expecting it to have some retarded ending when I was about halfway through but I was pleasantly surprised.

Nope, just like the music industry here, the actual author makes nearly nothing. Worst, they don't get money for concert or publicity.
That's why you've never really heard of a stinking rich manga artist.

Well if their series are popular and they get anime and other merchandise  they can wind up quite wealthy.  I'm sure Akira Toriyama is pretty loaded, as is that uh...Rumiko Takahashi (might have wrong name) who did Inuyasha/ranma/etc stuff.

I've only read the manga.  My brother tells me the anime is very good though.

It's mostly psychological/comedy/depressing.  Kinda dark humor I guess.  It's depressing but its not constant there's still some hope and stuff, its kinda up and down in that way.

I think Thoren on this site has an avatar from it

Hexyz Force is good though I think there are better games you could download.  Haven't played Crimson Gem Saga.

Depending what kinda game you want I'd recommend Gurumin, Half Minute Hero, Ys Seven, and ZHP for downloadable PSP games.  Not sure on prices but Gurumin at least should be $15 or under.

then a bunch of stuff happens all at once but none of that matters any more because "IRIS! WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOORRRRR!!!!!",

and yeah I agree with Annubis it gets better in the 2nd half or so of season 2.
351  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: new union game. as in yggdra union. on: March 31, 2011, 11:28:48 AM
Every time I've tried to play Yggdra Union I've gotten bored with it. The battle system makes utterly no sense to me and any rpg that uses a card system generally turns me off. I still intend to finish it someday. I've got Knights in the Nightmare too but haven't started it. I don't really get the whole Dept. Heaven thing; are these games just standalone with loose connection (as in cameos and etc.) or are they actually leading up to something big story-wise? Are the other Union games just spin-offs of Yggdra Union or are they "episodes" in the series as well?

Wikipedia seems to think Dept Heaven games are unconnected story-wise, but Union games are spinoffs/sequels/prequels of Yggdra Union and not main episodes.
Supposedly, those "episodes" are numbered based on  battle system complexity with Riviera being first.

The Dept. Heaven games are loosely connected storywise but they ARE connected.  They all share the same universe and certain characters are present in more than one game in story related ways (not just cameos).  My impression is that Yggdra Union happens first, followed by Kights in the Nightamare, followed by Riviera.  Blaze Union and Gloria Union are spinoff games and are not part of the Dept. Heaven series.

*spoiler warning for Geass R2*

Code Geass R2 is not nearly as good as season 1 but it still has some very cool parts.  It's just so unnecessarily confusing compared to season 1.  I can't count the number of times I was like "huh what?" at something going on and never getting any resolution.  Like when chigusawa (the dark skinned chick?) and the ninja maid and that curly hair rebel guy were in the forest and she's like "I'll kill you!" and im like what is going on here?!!!!!!!!!!  Speaking of the ninja maid....how stupid a plot device is it to have her be able to disguise herself as lelouch perfectly?  it's hard to be lamer than that.  Also a certain character death was incredibly pointless and added needless drama when we already had something similar happen but done much better in season 1.  yeah.

Well Blaze Union never came out here so I don't think this will either.  As long Atlus brings Gungnir over everything is good...

I'm guessing you aren't a fan of Guilty Gear/Blazblue music either if you don't like the music in this game.  I think it's excellent.

It's not homophobia, it's bad character design.

It really is.

This game is like woah.  Any fan of 2D action games is really missing out if they don't get this.

I got the game and it is addictive and hard.

I may be getting this, I still don't know much about it.

Well they look that way cause they kinda are.  The battle system is about as uninspired as it gets.  The graphics are nice looking and the game has good music but the game isn't that great overall imo.  Working designs translation is funny at least
360  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Sega Saturn on: March 13, 2011, 03:11:31 PM
This is still my favorite system.  I think most of the really good games were mentioned already but I'll throw Silhoutte Mirage in there, though it is Japan only.  I know there's a Playstation version released in the US by Working Designs, and I've read about changes they made and stuff but I haven't played it.  Point is though, it's one of the best 2D action games I've played and I will always have fond memories of it.

I also really like Virtual On, and it was actually the main reason I originally got the system.  Graphics and stuff not nearly as good as the arcade version (which I played years later) but it's still Virtual On.

Panzer Dragon games, Dragon Force,  Astal, Fighter's Megamix, Albert Odyssey Gaiden, Shinning Wsdom. Shinobi

I'm glad someone else liked Astal.  It isn't well known but it's a good game.  Graphics, music, and gameplay were all very good but not much extra content (you can't even create a save file) so you prettymuch had to beat it in one sitting.

Sonic Jam is also a really good game, it's a collection of sonic1,2,3 & knuckles and has a cool 3D museum thingy.

Also for Nights, if you can find the Christmas Nights "demo" disk that is also really good and the data links with your main Nights file
