Just finished it. I kept wishing we'd heard the original one, but oh well. Kim should be on more often. The female touch is nice, and she gives Rob more flack, which I enjoy despite the fact that I agree with him most of the time about KH and Heavy Rain.

II think the majority of the list for good characters was well done. 2 th would have liked to have seen would have been:

Faith from Mirror's Edge. She's so friggin awesome.

The lead character from Septerra Core. I forget her name. Badass lady with a gun who acts as the party's lead. You honestly don't see that too often.

The one thing I don't understand is why Shepheard was included on this list. In every piece of advertising and art that I've ever seen released by EA/Bioware, shepheard is male. In fact, this may have been the first time I've even seen a screen cap of femshep at all. I really feel as if the male shepheard is always treated is the "true" version, which is why I think she should have been left off the list. There are plenty of better choices out there than the mass affect optional custom shepheard.

That said though, she is friggin awesome.

The majority of my criticisims, however, are with the hall of fail. Princess Peach? Really? She's had her own game where she's gone off and been the hero on the DS, and was a pretty good playable character in the US Mario 2. As for her earlier versions, is it really that hard to imagine some spoiled royalty being helplessly kidnapped? I don't know. I get it, but I just feel this slot could have been better suited to another character.

Yuzo from SmT Devil Survivor? I may be alone in this, but not only do I find her character, personality, and actions to be totally believeable, I know people like her! Yeah they annoy the hell out of me, but they exist. I really don't find her to be that unreasonablle considering she lived in a normal world up to the point where some of the craziest crap ever happened and now she's summoning demons out of her DS and using them to fight GIANT ARCH DEMONS. Again, I get it, she's not well written and her character never really grows, but from what I've played, it's the same for the rest of the cast in that game. I don't think she is undeserving of a thumbs down, but there's so much worse out there that I thought deserved this spot more than she did.

Phantasia GBA definitely isn't the best version of the game, with that honor going to either the PSX or PSP version.

DeJap's fan translation for the win.

If I get a 3ds, now I have 2 games I want for it. Here we go again...

I was surprised at the amount of purists who loathe the DeJap "efforts".  I salute them hard for it, they took a dry script and made me "lol" on a few occasions.

Games are supposed to be fun, and I honestly believe that his script increased the fun factor of that game quite a bit. Purists be damned. He didn't really change the big picture, just the details.  Hell, really, the game had no details. At least in his version the characters had personality and developed a bit. The literal translations had no flavor to them at all!
35  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: A dark game? on: April 29, 2011, 11:14:26 AM
Visual novels: Saya no Uta is pretty goddamn morbid.  ...no seriously, it's a plot point to simply "be" like that.

Nier (not PSP... but not many "dark" PSP titles... because otherwise, aside from a few minor additions, and old, Breath of Fire V and the SMTs was the last that I can really say stuck to memory)

Can't let the lack of emphasis cause this one to slip by so I'm seconding Nier.

It's very much like a darker version of LoZ: Ocarina of Time (although I'd probably describe it as morbid rather than dark). But it also has excellent dialog, great characters, a wonderful soundtrack, and serviceable gameplay. There is a female character as well (although strictly non-playable though also not retarded either) that, despite appearances, is actually quite good and comes in early enough that your friend might have a chance to relate. But a few things I should note about the game...

1)Try to avoid the opening movie or looking up too much about the game. A lot of promotional material let slip some really big whoppers in terms of spoilers.
2)Ignore trying to get full 'chieves or trophies. This game was designed by the dev team formerly known as Cavia who are infamous for being colossal trolls to gamers. If a sidequest seems to require more effort to complete than its worth then it's probably worth ignoring.
3)For the love of god, LOOK AT YOUR MAP!!! Seriously, the RED X is your guide. Don't be a retard who spends 40 hours futility trying to complete a quest in the wrong fucking place and then bash the game because of your own mental deficiencies.
&4)The developers may be colossal trolls but they wont make it impossible to unlock all four endings. Everything you need will be provided for you. Only the optional stuff will require watching out for, and even then there is a NG+ feature in the game so either way don't worry about it.

If I may add a 5:

Look up a guide for the fishing minigame. I'd say ignore it except it's required to advance the plot. The game does a piss poor job of explaining it.

Part of me really wanted this game to suck so I could call it LoH: Trails In My Shorts. Now I have to debate adding another game to my ever growing backlog.

Oh that was great. I stopped looking up PA's comics a few years ago because they just weren't funny, but that was rich.

Where the hell did you find that?
41  Media / General Games / Re: Senran Kagura, Thread of "Enormous Breast Hyper Battle" a.k.a. Boobs in 3D on: April 15, 2011, 03:28:15 PM
I'm actually surprised it took this long for some Japanese company to bounce (no pun intended?) onto the 3DS to have "3d boob mechanics".  In fact, I'm surprised that wasn't a week 1 idea.

There was a DOA game announced week 1, which is pretty much the same idea with a fighting game applied to it.

I'm not a soundtrack guy. You can read my reviews, ask my fellow RPGFan staff members, I'm really not much for noticing music in games unless it's awesome.

Playing BG&E again, I forgot just how freaking fantastic the music in this game is.

I personally can't stand the music after I hear it twice. At least the stuff they play in the races and in the bar. Nothing really stuck out to me besides that stuff. It's too pop and too repetative for me to love it.
I will say this, as annoying as the music is to me, it seriously gets stuck in my head.
43  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: PSone Classics PSN rpgs on: April 15, 2011, 02:40:29 PM
A have some questions here about the PSone version of Final Fantasy VI; How is the quality of the translation of this version compared to the one from the GBA version? Are there any relevant differences between them? Also, this version has some things censored like the SNES and the GBA versions?

I remember reading that the GBA version was even more censored in some areas than the original SNES version of the game, which has some sprite changes and what not.
Unless they changed it, it's the snes version. That's what was released on the ps1 cd anyway. I heard the GBA version had a better translation, but I never remembered any issues with the original. What did they censor anyway?

And I will.. tonight.. my backlog is getting insane.

I'm not sure which ps1 games are playable on psp, but Vagrant Story sounds like it might scratch that itch.
