I honestly disagree with pretty much everything you said except for the lack of character development of the main character part.

Heh, that's cool, bit interested in hearing your thoughts behind it that's all. I'm a pretty big Gundam nerd.

Honestly, just take the exact opposite of pretty much everything you had said, and you'd have my thoughts on the matter, minus the two noted exceptions (Main character and SEED's mecha).

Anyways, I ended up going with Eureka Seven, but then my internet went out, so I watched FullMatal Alchemist and Gundam X until the cable guy came and got us a new modem. Now that we have internet, I feel like watching Escaflowne.

Eureka Seven is slooooow. But good. The world is very unique and the characters are great - they're all quirky and never quite cliche. It's very character focused for a Mecha anime, which in this case works.

FullMetal Alchemist is really good so far. It's very episodic so far, and each little story hits just the right notes, so to speak. It's got just the right mix of comedy and sorrow, action and intrigue - no one aspect overpowers the other. The characters and voice acting are also great, but that goes without saying.

Gundam X has really hit the spot, especially with the Fort Seven arc. It seems to have more of a Love/adventure story feel to it, and it really works for me. I especially love the post-apocalyptic setting, it really makes for an interesting world. The only think I don't like are the mech designs. They aren't bad, but they come off as weird versions of mobile suits from other series. They're still not as bad as the bug 'suits from Victory Gundam or those monstrocities in Turn A Gundam, and I'm getting used to them, but I can't say I like them.

I'll edit in my impressions of Escaflowne later.

Anyways, yesterday I finished off This Ugly Yet Beautiful World. To put it quite simply I enjoyed practically every minute of it. The story wasn't stupendous, but I loved the characters, especially Hikari - she finds joy in so many little things about the world that we take for granted. The art and music was great as well, particularly the main theme, "Metamorphose." And the ending, without spoiling too much, was bittersweet - my second favorite type of ending after tragic endings.

And slightly off-topic, but I had a dream last night where I talked to a girl for a long time about this show. She got really interested when I told her it was made by Gainax, makers of Evangelion. Then I managed to convince her to come over to my house to watch Gunbuster! Now there's a fantasy I wish would come true! Screw all my usually cartoony/Gamey dreams!

It's a western exclusive. Same difference.

I'm happy with this. Just one question though: What's an otome?

A love adventure where a female protagonist must woo one of many male love interests.

Rock on! Here's hoping for a U.S. release!

Yeah, business as usual. And I thought this was well known years ago. I coulda sworn there were news articles way back when talking about how Microsoft paid for the localization.
1252  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hey Guys! We got one! (Solatorobo Thread) on: June 20, 2011, 01:14:20 PM
Finally, a Solatorobo thread. This is a game that appeals to me on so many levels, there's no way I could pass it up. I'm glad it's finally coming to North America, I was fully ready to import it, but I'm glad I don't have to. Actually, depending on the cover art, I may get the European version as well.
1253  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Sweden: "Men Who Like Adult Manga Are Sick Pedophiles" on: June 19, 2011, 01:19:28 PM
So according to this radio show and so called experts any man who gets off to hentai (regardless of whether it's lolicon or not) is a dangerous sex criminal...

Considering the content of most hentai, I can't blame him. Saying they're all Pedophiles is obviously ignorant, but if it's not Lolicon, I've yet to see a hentai Manga that didn't contain some other sick fetish, and I've looked pretty hard. (still, feel free to prove me wrong)
1254  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: MGS, SH and ZOE HD collections announced on: June 18, 2011, 07:23:44 PM
With all this HD thing I remembered Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars, you know, the GBA game that almost nobody cared to play because "lol handhelds". I wonder if it could be a wise choice to remake that game for the 3DS or Vita while we wait for Zone of the Enders 3.

A new Z.o.E. game for 3DS or Vita could be pretty nice too I guess. :T

I thought I was the only one who still cared about that game. I'd love to see a remake someday, or at least a sequel in the same vein. Doubt it'll happen, but I can dream.

I just started This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, based on a recommendation from a user here, and from an AMV I favorited on Youtube. I'm 6 episodes in. So far, it seems like it has a lot of potential. I like the characters a lot, the love story aspect isn't as sappy as I expected, and the action was cool, if a bit sparse. The story seems pretty mysterious right now, it could turn out to be very interesting. Really, I can't wait to watch more of it. I might marathon it today until I finish it.

I also think the show just jumps into things. There's no setup, no kind of meandering sub-plots, it just goes.

Zeta, which really hit it's stride in the last ten episodes, suffers horribly from this.

On the one hand, I agree that what you said was a strength for 08th MS Team. On the other hand, I never felt Zeta Gundam "suffered" from them. I felt it was a good pace for what they were trying to do.

And speaking of Gundam, I just finished Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. First off, I'd like to say that this show was not as bad as I was led to believe. I think 'Guarded Praise' best sums up my feelings for it.

Starting with the visuals, the mech designs were even better than Gundam SEED's -  a feat, I'd say, since I held SEED's designs to be the best in the series. The character designs were also as good as ever - Hisashi HIRAI continues to be my favorite character designer. The animation was also fantastic, as far as I could tell. The music was also very good, though not as good as the music in Gundam SEED. Oh, and I should also note that the dub was mostly good...although the dubbed music wasn't so good.

The story I felt was very entertaining. It wasn't anything exceptional, but it held my interest for the majority of its 50 episodes. Most of the characters were alright, and most were developed well enough that I cared for them when they either died or I thought they were gonna die. The beginning and ending were disturbingly similar to Gundam SEED's, but while SEED's beginning was more meaningful, Destiny's ending had more of an impact.

What I didn't like were the blatant references to other Gundam shows, particularly the first Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Then there's Shinn Asuka - I don't think I've ever hated a character in the entire metaseries as much as this guy, and he's the protagonist. He's a naive fool, through and through - putty in the main villian's hands. On the plus side, though, for once the main villian isn't entirely evil, and I found it difficult to understand why he needed to be stopped. He was actually at least partially in the right, and his thinking always made sense. As far as I know, this is a first for the series, and something that I felt it really needed.

In the end, I really liked this one. It's not exactly top material - it made too many references for its own good, and the protagonist annoyed me the whole way through - but it was definitely entertaining and easily recommendable to fans of the first Gundam SEED.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray - Not much to say about this one, seeing as it was 15 minutes all together. It was basically meant to entice people into purchasing the model kits and manga. Personally, I'd say it did it's job fairly well. The characters were charming right off the bat, and the action was excellent. The mobile suits were very well shown off. I'm definitely far more interested in the manga now, and I see they're fairly cheap. I might have to get a few volumes.

Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team is one of my top 3 favorite Gundam shows. The stories so awesome, mostly because it's a bit more realistic.

^Try Stealing in Ultima. It makes the game a whole lot better.

Gundam SEED Destiny wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The first few episodes at least are very entertaining, and Shin's starting to grow on me (though I'm still hoping he gets beat up eventually). His immature attitude and needless references to other Gundam shows still annoy me, but other than that, I'm very glad to be watching it.
1260  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon's Crown (Vanillaware RPG, Spring 2012 all regions) announced for PS3/Vita on: June 08, 2011, 11:11:46 AM
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the character designs either, but other than that, I'm excited for it big time.
