I had a lot of trouble getting into Jet Set Radio, too. The controls are frustrating and...I guess I don't really know what I'm doing or even what I'm supposed to do?
1247  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Etrian Odyssey IV announced for 3DS on: December 21, 2012, 11:58:59 AM
Pre-ordered.  Also, this will give me an excuse to get around to Etrian Odyssey III some time soon.

If you manage to finish it on time, think you could give me a total time estimate? I'm on the first floor of the second stratum, and it felt like it took 20 hours just to get through the first Stratum (granted 5+ hours were just sailing), and it doesn't seem like it'll get any quicker.

I liked Legend of Black Heaven, though it's not to everyone's tastes. Hope you enjoy it, though, Bytor.

Grimrock's the only one I want in that bundle, TBH. I think I'll just buy that game seperately some other time.

I like grinding for things that aren't rare drops or levels...maybe I should get back to playing MegTen games? It's been a while.

Played some Star Ocean: The Last Hope recently, and got to the second Medieval-ish world, the one with the lush mountain valleys and a nearby desert. This really is a very good game in most areas, with much better combat, pacing, and variation (enemy, environment, player character combat types, etc.) than its predecessor. I also don't think the story and characters are quite that bad - the story has its moments, and the characters are starting to grow on me a little. With that said, Edge's new emo phase is almost comical in its excecution. I can sort of understand why he's depressed, but they keep taking it too far, and really just makes him look like a jerk or a fool. Oh well, I can't imagine it'll last that long.

Their plastic-like bodies keep creeping me out, though...

Klyde, have you played Rayman Origins? It'll probably be on sale on Steam soon if you haven't.

If you like platformers, you should play Rayman Origins.

http://www.robitstudios.com/treasure-adventure-game/ <- This is also a good choice, and free.

On sale on PSN right now, actually.

Thanks for the update, Klyde. I was mostly in it for the odd themes and, oddly enough, the dancing (wanted to see how that was worked into the action). Personally I wasn't disappointed in those areas, but I don't remember the characters being that good either. I remember liking the story, but that have been more do to the themes than anything else. Hope you find the second half more enjoyable, at least.

Thanks, Lard, I ended up going with E.X. Troopers (and just EX Troopers, I couldn't decide between the two Metal Maxes so I said screw it to them). I still want Original Generations 2, but I figure it'd be best to wait until sometime next year.

Men in Black 3

Very impressive movie. Between MIB2 and my cynicism towards reboots and revivals, I was prepared for the worst, but it actually turned out to be pretty good. It was funny, it was great to see the character dynamic back, the writing was good most of the time, and the action was clever and well-done. I also loved all the twists, even if a few felt forced, particularly the last one. Visually, it was everything I could hope for from a MIB sequel, and the score was very memorable, even if the vocal songs kinda sucked. The only thing I'm really disappointed in is that they didn't introduce any particularly interesting characters, but at least they didn't introduce any annoying ones. Speaking of which, a part of me misses Frank, but after spending so much time with him in MIB2 (IIRC), I think that's for the best.

Oh, and they didn't introduce any particularly interesting weapons, but I'll live.

So overall, it was a pretty good movie, IMO - certainly one of the best series revivals I've seen in the past few years, and a welcome addition to the series. I just hope we see some new characters if they do a Men in Black 4, maybe do a whole different branch or something. After this, I don't think they can do anything more with these characters, and I mean it this time...

Also, what happened to mech shows? I love mech shows =(
Are they really not popular anymore or something?

Seems they're saving them for next year:

Granted Mecha may not be the focus for that last one. But the Gundam remake may be coming next year as well, plus there's the Gundam UC OVA (ep. 6 scheduled for March, last ep could probably make it before the end of the year) and the Code Geass OVA (episode 2 is also coming in March and ep. 3 could come out before the end of 2013, too). IMO, that'd be plenty if it all works out. And if they all turn out really good, even better.

im on stage 47 of srt ogs 2 if you have any specific questions.

How easy is it to understand the new systems without knowing a lot of Japanese? I know I can look at guides, but still...I'd prefer not to. I got through most SRT games without looking up anything, and did pretty well at them, too.
1258  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Crimson Shroud - Matsuno's Newest Game on: December 13, 2012, 09:22:38 PM
I'll be getting it next week, along with Denpa Men. It'll be a hard wait, though.
1259  Media / Single-Player RPGs / SRT:OGs2 or EX Troopers + Metal Max? Import Recommendations on: December 13, 2012, 04:57:45 PM
I'm thinking of importing a game or two as a late present for myself (Because why not?), but can't really choose between getting Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations 2, a series which I love and have a couple imports of already, or EX Troopers, a game which I recently tried out and had a blast with, along with a Metal Max game (either 2 Reloaded or 3, leaning towards 2 since it's cheaper). The total comes out the same, give or take. I have little experience with Japanese, but that's never stopped me before and I've already found guides for these games, so I think I'll be good there.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which would be the better buy?

If it is Star Ocean, I just hope we don't spend too much time putzing about in Medieval settings yet again...
