I know someone who has been following Kenichi nonstop (got caught up in under a year). I guess I'll be hearing about how that one ends.

Thanks for the input, D. That's definitely the version I want to pick up, then. Might have to wait a few months since I spent a fortune last month and I two preorders for the end of September...
1248  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: The comic books thread. What's your fave? Marvel? DC? Top Cow? on: September 08, 2014, 10:47:55 AM
I loved Y's premise, but I couldn't get into the comic itself. I really need to read my issues of Saga that I got from a Humble book bundle, though.

And for some reason I always thought Sandman was about the Spiderman character...didn't realize it was DC/Vertigo. I'm definitely much more interested in it now.

Also, I got Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1. Still got to read it, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Thanks for the reminder. I wanna keep on the lookout to see if the PS3 version runs good enough. I'm not paying for online.

Well, I guess with Zelda it's more that I enjoy the exploration of a Zelda game the most. The original Zelda was the only one with dungeons I really enjoyed because they felt like a part of the exploration, instead of just tasks that you had to do. There were hidden paths you could find, alternate entrances to rooms and stuff. Sometimes you could find out about things that were actually hidden in the overworld. It made them rewarding instead of just a chore, you know? I mean, I think A Link to the Past and Twilight princess had interesting things you could do in the dungeons, but they still felt like there was too much of a set path - just trying to do what someone's telling you to do instead of forging your own path. That's what I want out of an adventure. Sadly, even most Zelda clones seem to miss this part, let alone the rest of the Zelda games.

Not to say most RPGs do that either, but I don't look for it in an RPG, because I play RPGs to accomplish set tasks, so it doesn't feel out of place or against the grind like it does in an adventure game like Zelda. I suppose if I were to compare the dungeons from Zelda on the same scale, my attitude might be different, but I just can't. The context is just as important as the structure when comparing things.

Am I the only one who finds the dungeons in Zelda games one of the least compelling aspects of Zelda? Like, I can think of a lot of dungeons I like, but most of them aren't from Zelda...

Not hard, since the first one sounded like a sequel to Carrier...

Guys! Shut up and read this Misc. Gaming News post. They announced who the Final Five 4 Smash Bros are, its....

I'm laughing and crying at the same time.

Er, you guys do realize that they're just examples of the Mii Fighter and not new characters, right?

That's what I figured, but it's still hilarious. I can't wait to fight Mario with random J-pop idols! And Mr. T. And a T-rex. And Jesus.
1253  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Why would I buy a ps4? on: September 06, 2014, 07:04:40 PM
The thing is, PS+ free games broaden my horizans in a manner of speaking. I try and often enjoy a great deal I would overlook simply because they are available and free.

Just feel like bringing up that I kinda know what he's talking about, in that I went through a period where playing free/rental games helped me try new genres and whatnot that I never would've gotten into otherwise, including RPGs.

However, I hit that phase years ago, and now I'm to the point where I'm content with my tastes and simply don't want to spend time with games I'm not already interested in.

I'm still not sold on a PS4 or PSN+

As I see it, you don't really want one for any reason. No matter how compelling that reason may be.

In the last few months I've been overwhelmed by the amount of titles that I'm looking forward on PS4.

That's good for you, but I think his reasons are clearly stated as to why they aren't compelling to him. You don't have to talk like he's just being contrarian simply because he doesn't see things the way you do...

As for the PS+ thing, I actually cancelled my subscription long ago and I have yet to have a reason to go back. I don't miss all but 2 of the games I had for free (Gravity Rush and VLR, both of which I bought) and every game they've put up for free since I either don't care about or already own (usually bought physically on Amazon or at Gamestop at a steep discount). I'll admit, I miss the great sales for digital-only games, but on the PS3 at least there are so few I feel I actually need that I didn't get while I had the subscription, while the rest had good sales for regular members as well. The PS4 is getting more compelling sales as time goes on, but if I ever get one, I'll probably go as long as I can without a subscription, because I don't need my games tethered to Sony, especially considering how much money they bleed.

1255  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: kotaku article on what FFXV means to the future of JRPGs... on: September 05, 2014, 06:14:35 PM
Anything written at kotaku ever, I give about as much credit to as france for developing french fries...none at all.

Btw, was the purpose of that third paragraph to remind me about terrible things either recent or from 2006? Because that's the only impression I got.

Can you still get Gravity Rush for free? If so, there you go. EDIT: Nope, missed it by about two months. I don't know what else to tell you, then. Probably not worth it.
1257  Media / General Games / Re: Misc. Gaming News Topic on: September 04, 2014, 10:44:00 PM
I think he's just trying to put things in perspective. Gaming is not that important - people would be sad if it went away, and a lot of people would be out of a job, but it's still just first world problems compared to...well, even bulgulary.

Urge, the most mecha I've seen in one season and only one of them interests me. Well, better than none at least. Also, World Trigger yay! Might check out Fate/Stay Night and Inou-Battle if I feel like it. Psycho-Pass S2 looks cool, but I gotta see the first still. Otherwise nothing else interests me.

Just to clarify, that link was only the 5th online-drama-related thing I've encountered today. It's not even the worst, either.

And yes, I'm really digging that kazoo version. It works surprisingly well.
1260  Media / General Games / Re: Misc. Gaming News Topic on: September 03, 2014, 10:03:58 PM
I'm getting horrendously sick of all the online tabloid level, he-said-she-said online drama crap that I've been seeing for many years. It seems like no matter how hard I try to avoid it, I always stumble upon it somewhere...

*Sigh*...well, to liven things up, here's the Super Mario Land 2 Theme on a kazoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmAaqvxYwB4&list=PLpNzehgvxh3CNURyEDM-5DV6mWXp_6ccU
