46  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Re: PS3 Lag Issues on: February 01, 2012, 11:52:02 PM
See and thats the thing, the day Skyrim came out, I was downloading Mass Effect 2 via PSN, came home with skyrim, found my PS3 had auto shut off, and must have done so during install or something cause my HDD was corrupted and that was only solved with a format.  Since then ive only played a few games, ive deleted all game data from games im not using, demos, saves from games I dont care about, etc.  I have read it could potentially be a poor install of the 4.0 firmware so I picked up a USB and am going to throw the firmware on there and reinstall from the USB, since that seems to have helped a few poeple.  I will say I got FFXIII-2 today in the mail from gamefly, and its run fine, but it doesnt run off the HDD..so I am thinking thats the issue...
47  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / PS3 Lag Issues on: February 01, 2012, 02:19:27 AM
So I posted this on the official PS forums but no response yet, wanna hear what you guys think.

Hey there everyone, im starting to get very worried.  I have an around 1 year old PS3 160gb Slim system.  I would say since middle of december my system has been acting strange.  Games seem to take awhile to start up, pretty much any demo I download and install will lag, when no one else I know has a problem with the Demo, Netflix takes longer to load up.  I have rebuilt the database, restored the file system, and it seems to have helped slightly.  Also 3/4 times I use my ps3 controller to turn on my system, I have to connect the controller to the USB cable becuase all 4 red lights blink, and it will not recognize the controller until I do that.  Once I do that, I can unplug it and it works fine.

Most recent example is just now, I downloaded and installed the Darkness 2 demo.  As soon as I started it up, every 5 seconds or so it lags for just a second.  Same thing happened with Kingdoms of Amalurs beginning cutscene, I started it up, stuttered like mad, paused it, decided to look up on the net if everyone had this issue, went back to it, and it worked just fine.  I would assume if anything the HDD is going bad, but I want to make sure before I start looking for something new.  Should I try a format?  Id rather not lose my saves, and I don't have a thumbdrive, though I can pick one up.  If I have to do this, is it simple to move save files onto it?

Hopefully someone can help me out here, thank you!

Yeah thats pretty interesting because, as I said, I heard it was the main release build demoized.  I actually kinda hope your version is true, since that means itll be even more awesome (hopefully) when it launches.

Actually I read that this is a snippet of the release version.  So if anything gets fixed its gonna be day one patch or some such..could be mistaken though.

I never had it crash on me, but I had alot of lag during the game as well.  Still I really enjoyed it.  Easiest way for me to describe it so far if I were to compare to games to it is Fable/WoW.  Dunno if itll be a day one purchase, but I definately am looking forward to it.

Can anyone tell me if for their PS3 demo, the intro cinematic stuttered every couple of seconds as though I was playing on a PC that couldn't hangle it?  The FFXIII-2 Demo video at the end did the same damn thing..and I cant find anything online about either or them..im really starting to get worried my ps3 is somehow messed up..but I have no idea where to start...ill keep going and see how the game is..unless it to decides to go wonky on me.

I may be picking it up sooner or later..I really do want to wait for a new computer so I can play it better than low..but it was so much fun to play...If I do get back on, ill be focusing on BH or Trooper, depending on which side I choose to play.

Id be willing to give it a go, sadly we probably wont see it..so I suppose in the end it does not matter.

Well I was gonna play tonight..but right now its over an hour wait...holy crap...and its not like making new servers will help much..if most of those people are on the server cause their guilds were assigned there...oops?  Still love the game otherwise.

Interesting way to put it Parn, and I was wondering about that.  I messed with Imperial Agent a bit but I think Bounty Hunter may fit me better..I seem to enjoy being a tank more than straight up dps or heals.  Also messing with Trooper, which im liking alot.  Only thing so far that kinda bugs me about the game is the difference between body 2 and body 3...its like..reasonable body size with a slightly large head to..OMG ITS THE HULK!  Body type 4 is just ridiculous.

I dont know exactly how the quality of Turtle Beach is, or the price gouging part, but ive heard they are good.  I have investigated a little into this myself, since I have a PS3 and a PC and have been wanting to get a headset for it.  I was thinking of getting a USB one, just a plug in play between the two, and ive read it works, but you cannot get the videogame audio to come through the speakers on your headset for the ps3, just the chat part.  I do believe the game audio part  uses either the digital out or the pink and green connectors to audio.  Since your looking more for better audio than chat, your probably gonna wanna be looking more at turtle beach than what I was looking at, but I figure id let ya know what I found out.

Pre loading the client now since I got confirmation that my early start begins today.  Ill probably start as an Imperial Agent with our Imperial Guild, but I may switch over to Republic since being the bad guys tends to not sit well with me, but we will see.  I did have to cancel my CE pre order..cause I just cant afford it this month (sad panda) but ill be picking up a regular edition.
58  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Re: Mass Effect 2 PS3 download problems on: December 12, 2011, 09:47:32 PM
No I was just using the download feature, then doing something else, I haven't actually used the PS3 for anything beyond trying to download ME2.  I can try DLing in the background though.

UPDATE: Looks like downloading in background either did the trick..or I got lucky.  Thanks Keeper!
59  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Mass Effect 2 PS3 download problems on: December 12, 2011, 07:38:02 PM
Ok so here is what is going on, I bought Mass Effect 2 over PSN, and have been trying to download it.  However for whatever reasons my internet at some point during the download causes PSN to have an error, and I have to start over from the beginning.  Now with most PC downloads you can have the download get interrupted and restart it from where it left off, but it seems the ps3 starts from the very beginning, and considering Mass Effect 2 is 12gb, thats kinda NOT working.  Any way to fix this?  Otherwise I guess I can just keep trying till the gods of technology deign to let it work.  As for my connection, its free throughout my building, never really have to many issues with it, I have a switch for my PC and my PS3, not a router, and its wired.
