The timed button presses to do extra damage are near impossible though. They give you like half a second to do it, otherwise...

I've actually gotten pretty good at it. Different weapon types each have there assigned button.  Swords (A) Spears (Y) Staffs (B).

Two Handed swords seem to go slower than single handed swords, staffs seem to be the fastest. Just judge them from there.

Okay, what the hell am I supposed to do with the Sluice Gates in Waterways in Rabanastre? I got the key for them after defeating that one Mark, but I've yet to figure out what good opening and closing the gates do. I have that letter you receive after defeating an earlier Mark, but that's not much help.

Here is what to do at the sluice gate and how to beat Cuchulainn, the Impure.

Code:
Ok. This is what you do as the sluice gate in order to fight Cuchulainn.

1. Close gates No. 3 and No. 10.
2. Enter path No. 3 gate, follow the path to the end and use the waterway control.
3. Return to the center, open gates No. 3 and No. 10.
4. Close gates No. 4 and No. 11.
5. Enter the No. 4 gate, follow the path and use the waterway control again.
6. Return to the center, then open up No. 11 and Close No. 3.
7. Enter the number 1 gate a follow the path towards Cuchulainn.

Cuchulainn is a very hard boss if you not over lvl 55 or lvl 60. (But still beatable at lower levels) These are the gambits I used when I fought him.

These are for my characters adjust them to whomever you use.

The story is pretty much FFT has Sex with FF6, then infused with jenova cells to create ff12. I just beat it today. Splendid game. You'll all enjoy it.

I have to say, this is probably like in the top 3 favorite FF.  Its just got such a great world, pretty fun battle system, I love being able to PICK YOUR OWN WEAPON.  I mean, being able to choose from Crossbows, Katana, Ninja Sword, Rods, Staffs, Poles, Swords, Knightswords, on and on, its just great.  Kinda sucks though, since your not sure exactly what each does, in terms of benefits and such, but still, fun stuffs.

From what I can tell about weapons there are benefits for each weapons.

1 Handed Swords - Good attack speed, and damage. (Bests weapon for a tank)

2 Handed Swords - Very high damage, but slow attack speed.

Guns - Weak on the damage, but it can't be blocked or parried. Has a high critical rate.

Bows - Execellant Ranged Damage, kinda lacking on the critical hits.

Katana - Combo's galore with good damage.. I know there is a combo using the Genji Gloves, Bravery, Haste, and Berserk thats allows for a 10 hit combo everytime.

Ninja Swords - Quick attack speed, good dmg. Heals undead.

Crossbows - ?? never used them.

Staffs - Better for black mages, higher attack/magic power than rods.

Rods - Better for white mages, more mp gained, less attack power.

Measures - Also good for white mages, low damage and require you to attack allies to be benefical.

Hand Bombs -  Really slow, but huge aoe damage.

Wow. This game is massive. I'm 53 hours into the game, and i've still only scratch the surface. I think im about half way through the story, and only 1/16 through all the hunts/side quests. I'd suggest getting the guide for those who dont have it. It's very helpful.

On another note. (Not Story Related)

Code:
Wasn't sure if this was going to be spoiler infomation or not, but here it goes. My brother was telling me how all the esper arise from all the differant games in the series, a majority coming for Final Fantasy Tactics.  For example Belias the first esper you receive. Is actually the real translation of Velius (sp) the boss in chapter 3 in FFT. Can anyone confirm or deny this. If so what games do the other esper come from, i'd really like to know.

15  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Battle Systems on: April 25, 2006, 03:26:08 PM
I'm going to comment on RPG Battle Systems in this post.

I think Game Company's espically those that specialize in RPGs are moving more away from your traditional you hit me I hit you battle system.  For example Wild Arms 4 made a huge jump in the Battle System department, even though the game suffered in other aspects it was the battle system that made the game very very enjoyable. The battle system in WA4 allowed for alot more strategy, then in it's predessors.

Another game seriers that comes to mind is the Tales Series from Namco. (One of my favorite series by far.)  For years they have been inventing and reinventing that magnificant battle system of there's it makes every battle loads of fun!
