I'll be getting both.

Haven't seen anything to disprove it. It would require substantiating the claims of harassment, which nobody has done yet. The only thing I see in my feed are insults and vitriol towards people in the GamerGate tag.

Tomara: The problem comes with the constant blacklists and smear campaigns. When people are being shouted down for speaking about their sexual harassment, blacklisted for being competition, or harassed because they are an easy target, it is a huge problem.

It's not about the scores. Not really. It's about the politicization of the industry to such an extent that anyone and everyone is fair game for their bullshit. I made a series of videos regarding their attack on Wizardchan (a collection of suicidal, depressed people), which was spearheaded by The Escapist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tT_O4pU7aM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-K_Hur3bk0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_siMmFYCk8

Now, if The Escapist and everyone else who participated in that ridiculous Wizardchan dogpile had said "okay, we were wrong, we fucked up, the writer has been fired, it won't happen again and next time we'll check our sources," then fine. But that hasn't happened. What HAS happened is that they circled the wagons and tried to spin it so that people who said "whoa, what the fuck guys?" were racists/misogynists/homophobes. The very same people who were preaching down to US about equality and inclusiveness and giving everyone a fair shake and the benefit of the doubt bullied, harassed, and abused DEPRESSED PEOPLE. All to promote a game about depression. Seriously, think about that for a moment.

This goes back into the whole lack of accountability thing. Journalists have the power to influence public opinion. If they leave facts out, guess what? Victims can become perpetrators. Perpetrators can become victims, etc. This is EXACTLY what happened with Wolf Wozniak, The Fine Young Capitalists, and Wizardchan. It is also what's happening to the gaming community right now (what with all those "Gamers Are Dead" articles). The game journalism industry faces no blowback from what they've done, and continue to do, just daring everyone else to object. I mean, if you want to say "who cares" to basic human ethics and professionalism, then why stop there? Maybe I should start sleeping with my patients. Who cares? It's two consenting adults! Professionalism is just another word for oppression! Surely you see the problem in all this, right?

At least I can agree with the second point. If this is what gaming is going to be reduced to, let it burn.

I used that because people think Asians are white people. For some reason.
7  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Misc. Gaming News Topic on: September 04, 2014, 10:44:38 PM
Well, at this point it no longer is about gaming. It is about professionalism and respectability. These people have none.

ALso, this happened. Even veteran game devs are allowed to act in such an infantile way. If I acted like this at my job I'd be fired ten times over.

How does that argument hold any water? Should break ins and burglary be allowed because people are murdered and raped?
10  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Misc. Gaming News Topic on: September 04, 2014, 02:11:38 PM
No wonder this industry is such a fucking laughingstock. I think I'm done.

Please don't think I'm like that. I honestly don't understand why some people would go that far. Game journalism isn't taken very seriously (for good reasons) to begin with, and they're making it worse by lowering themselves to the level of some random dipshits on the internet.
I don't think you're like that, we're not really arguing on the matter, just discussing it.

If you look at the gamergate and notyourshield tags on twitter, however, most of the people protesting are very polite, very cogent, and very much non-violent. When you look at their OPPOSITION however, harassment, bullying, and browbeating are not only the norm, they are encouraged. Game journalists and ACTUAL GAME DEVS are engaging in some of the most infantile and immature behavior I've ever seen adults be capable of, and therein lies the problem. In any other industry this behavior would not be tolerated and anyone behaving this way would be facing reprimand if not outright dismissal. In this industry they feel they can say and do whatever they want without blowback or repercussions, and now that people are starting to say that that isn't okay, they are showing their true colors.

Untrue. Most people recognize women game devs like Jade Raymond and Jane Jensen. They are pioneers of industry. What people hate are the Zoe Quinn's and Anita Sarkeesians who politicize their gender and gaming itself.

While those tweets are pretty bad, there have been tweets made by ACTUAL JOURNALISTS comparing gamers to ISIS and nazis. One called me a "fake Asian" for disagreeing with him.

The US is een scary place... :(

Half of the American news I see seems to be about policemen making terrible mistakes (the other half is about the economy). I get that the officers are afraid as well since there's always a very real possibility the subject pulls out a gun, but a policeforce that sees everyone who isn't in uniform as the enemy may be more dangerous than actual criminals.

Its not so bad as long as you're white and don't have a beard, don't approach a public school, don't have anything darker than a vanilla complexion, don't wear articles of clothing that look remotely foreign, don't wear concealing garments like hoodies or jackets, don't protest anything, don't stand in the vicinity of a protest, don't talk to the police, and you can speak English if you still end up talking to a police officer.

Then its just a matter of not being in the same vicinity of a person shooting up the place/looking like he's going to shoot up the place, or a bomb planted nearby a nationally recognized event, or a gang war shoot out/hit, or anybody open carrying a gun, or Florida.
Even that won't protect you much. I'm buying a shotgun.

From what I can glean out of everything I've read about it, they are seriously depressed NEETs (not in education, employment, or training) and agroaphobics, and similar people with psychological problems. The term wizard seems to come from a Japanese meme that means "30-year-old virgin." They are basically the western equivalent of hikkikomoris of Japan, and the site has suicide hotlines on every sub board. I am not even joking. It is depressing just to read through the stuff there.
15  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Misc. Gaming News Topic on: August 28, 2014, 12:22:30 AM
At this point, Zoe Quinn is only peripherally important. She is important only in a symbolic sense I.E. she didn't have the good sense to know when to stop pushing. I'm not about to agree with the things being done to her and her game, but I'm not going to shed a tear for someone so ridiculously toxic and monstrous.

The more important thing is the game sites. For years they've been sitting in their ivory towers telling us how evil we are that we enjoy certain games, or that wanting to just have our hobby be our hobby and not want to make anything more than that out of it is some sort of sin. Now, it's been revealed that they've been doing some really shady shit - I have to reiterate here: instigating verbal harassment and mob violence against a board of suicidally depressed people, to promote a game about depression, because seriously, what the fuck - and their response is still "the only reason you hate is is because you hate women. Calling her, and us, out on our bullshit means you are comparable to ISIS." Not forgetting that they basically blacklisted The Fine Young Capitalists because a positive article about promoting women in game development wasn't click-baity enough. Am I the only one seeing a significant problem here or am I insane/the only sane one?
