... For a moment, I was a little freaked out by this topic. heh

Yeah, I did not learn about Dio until much later in his life, but he was awesome at the rock. Great voice.
2  Media / The Soundroom / Re: On Starting an RPGmusic podcast on: May 25, 2010, 07:21:30 PM
If you really want to get down to it, you need to check out Sound Exchange (http://soundexchange.com/) for information on royalties and performer's rights. A couple years ago, there was a big movement by Sound Exchange and congress to go after all the big internet radio stations and get payment from licensing issues and copyright issues and such. They were asking for so much, it pretty much put a few companies out of business and others selling off their company (I.E.: Last.fm going to CBS Interactive).

It isn't as serious as it seems for small time broadcasters and podcasters, but it does cost money to stream audio. There are places to do live streams like SHOUTCast or SpacialNet. I personally use Live365 for Infinite.Bit Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/evlive365?play), but mainly because I use to work there and it is cheap. Going through them at least takes care of all the licensing stuff. There are some restrictions you have to follow, but when it comes to creating a station to try to attract a lot of listeners, it takes a lot of money to do it.

Hope that helps.
3  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: For everyone who once said, "FFXI sucks, you can't on: February 25, 2008, 03:55:09 PM
You know, I saw this title topic and thought, "FINALLY!... fucking FINALLY! They actually done something about this issue."... Then I saw these videos and it just made me sad all over again.

While it is impressive that this tarutaru solo'd these monsters, I don't really think it's new news. Everyone that has been a FFXI veteran knows all about the infamous Red Mage solo'ing accomplishments. I dunno how this post counters the "FFXI haters", at least for me, because I don't have a super geared out Red Mage at lvl 75, so those videos do nothing for me.

I deleted my character a couple years ago. I don't completely regret it, because as much as I missed my character and the good times in the game, I have spent more time and got less done on that game than any other MMO and I'm glad I have no insentive to go back. I've had friends ask me to come back, which is really cool that folks still want to hang together, but I can't force myself to play that game anymore.

I'm laughing at the arguement in this topic between the many "flaws" in both FFXI & WoW, but that is always going to be a preference issue depending on who you talk to. There are things about the graphics, battle system and environment about both games that I like and dislike, but there is one huge motherfuckin problem I have with FFXI... Time.

What do I mean? Okay, I'm a person that works 8 hours a day and has a lot to do at home and away from home, but I probably have a good 5 hours to play a weeknight. The worst case senario for an FFXI player is if you are lvl 20 and on, and have no friends. The failure in FFXI is when you are this person with no friends, and want to level, you sit in Jeuno (or wherever is the new spot to LFG) in seek mode, and basically hangout. Back then, it would take me an average of 30 minutes to an hour to find a group. Getting to a group would be another 10 to 20, depending on location and camp site. Then when finally starting the killing process, there is the risk that you might have to leave right away, or someone in the party might leave right away (which ends up being a healer, refresher or tank). More time is wasted to find one more person, OR the group disbands; which leads you back to square one. I probably have a good 5 hours a night to play games (if I'm not doing anything else after work) and to spend most of it LFG and preparing is just a huge turn-off.
On WoW, I can hop on, jump right into questing and killing for exp, while I have LFG for an instance run. If someone has to go or the group disbands, I go right back to questing. There is barely any downtime.

Oh yeah, there is also one more issue... on FFXI, an "easy pray" can potentially kill you at higher levels. On WoW, you can possibly take out something that is 2 or 3 levels higher than you... without needing expensive twink style gear.

I guess it always will come down to who you are talking to about this issue. Ryan made this post, yet he will have an advantage in FFXI compared to myself... I can speak and understand Japanese and probably has more time for it, plus he has his character that is already high lvl. For me, I'm starting from the beginning... or I would have. Technically, no one can say what game is better overall, unless you've done the content to the fullest... And the only guy I can think of that has done this is Mike Bracken. He is doing end game with us on WoW, and he has done end game on FFXI.

I am being bias because I do play WoW still and do end game content, but I have played FFXI from the beginning with you guys, which is why I'm looking at this arguement from a beginner's persective. The bottom line is, no one is going to care about end game content, gear, story or anything, because if the level grind is bad, then they're not going to last.

... And now for my "hater" comments. :P

1. WoW graphics may look cartoony or too animated, and FFXI may look more realistic, but I guess they have to be great with design, since they are using the same exact models for exp mobs and HNM's. Didn't Genbu's Shield look like a regular wooden shield? ewww

2. Call me when you can gain whole points, instead of decimal points in skill for crafting... without breaking crystals and losing materials.

3. In FFXI, What's my reputation? "Ask that NPC." "Hey NPC, what's my reputation... I mean, fame?" "blah blah blah, people around our kingdom has heard of your adventures." ... "So, WTF does that mean? I'm closer to finishing this fame grind or what?"

4. *running with party*
In WoW...
- Oh fuck, I got aggro.
- Kill it!.

In FFXI...
- Oh fuck, I got aggro.
- Shit! Just die! We'll raise.
- Wait, we don't have WHM to raise II (or III).
- Damn... *sends tell to LS WHM*
- Think you can come raise III me out in Boyahda Tree? (Worst case senario)
- I'm farming. Can't you just take a raise I?
- I'm going to level down. ;_; No exp buffer.
- Alright, omw...
- *30 minutes later*
- Alright, I'm here, where you at?
- *10 minutes later*
- *Raise III* There you go. Don't die!
- OMG Thank you Suspiria (lmao! I had to) ^_^;;;;
- *5 minutes later*
- fuck, I died again. Come back and raise me again? ;_;

I realize some of this might have changed over the years, but when I was playing, you know this shit was true... and some are probably still true. Haha!

BTW, hey guys. :P
4  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW: Wrath of the Lich King: A New Expansion: ::: on: August 10, 2007, 01:24:45 PM
I'm slightly disappointed in this. For those of us who have a limited amount of time, we probably won't see the Black Temple for a long time... And when the expansion comes, no one will ever want to go, since it'll be obsolete. That's what got on my nerves about the Burning Crusade expansion. It pretty much left Blackwing Lair, Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas all dead, since it had nothing to offer, as far as gear is concerned. I wanted to complete those raids, but it's hard to convince 39 other people to do it, if they find it's not worth it. Now it'll be hard to convince 24 other people to go through The Eye or Black Temple, after this expansion hits. It seems like either they are catering to the hardcore raiders that are already at the Black Temple, or they are catering to the ones that will never raid at all. Don't get me wrong. I think it's great to add content. I just wished they didn't raid the level cap, so at least the burning crusade content can be maintained and all the hard work you go through to get the gear to progress further won't get dumped in the end, for some stupid greens... And now this will make Azeroth even more craptastic, since it'll be alonger grind. They really need to examine the content between lvl 20 to 60, because the old quests are garbage.

To talk about the expansion itself, I agree, I think it's great to see the Lich King make a return. At least they're checking out Naxxramas, again. The engineers being able to make their own flying mounts is pretty awesome. I wonder if they'll look like F14's or something. Haha!

The only way to punish the rich is to take their money... Period.

By the way, remember when she was promoting the whole P.Diddy "Vote or Die" campaign, and then they found out she didn't vote? Doesn't that mean she is suppose to die? :P
7  The Rest / General Discussions / New Sodom wants to ban the Blue Angels on: June 08, 2007, 01:33:01 PM
I can give a fuck about the Blue Angels, but it's still a useless proposal. I live in San Francisco and I think we have more important things to worry about then a jet falling on your head. It's like paranoia is running wild, but targetting the wrong issues. People still get a kick out of the Blue Angels, and it IS an american tradition. Might as well leave it alone.

Gotta remember it is almost election time, and I'm sure people are looking for anyway to score some political brownie points.

... Still, I'd rather live in this city than most cities in this country.
8  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft OH MY GOD CURRENT EVENTS THREAD on: May 22, 2007, 03:44:49 PM
Sunday was our first raid run on Karazhan. We took down Attunemen & Moroes. Didn't have enough time for the Maiden, but we got her to like 25%. That was satisfying. :)
9  The Rest / General Discussions / Save RPGFan Radio! on: May 22, 2007, 03:27:26 PM
Yeah, I saw that RPGFan Radio went down. I don't know if this would help, but I put together a radio station on Live365, called Infinite.Bit Radio (Yeah, it's named after the production company I'm trying to start). It is nothing serious, but at least it's something that can be used, for now. Only reason it exists is because I currently work for Live365, but I'm trying to get out. With the whole royalties thing that's going on with internet radio companies, a lot of them stand to lose millions... At least, if they decide to pay. Supposedly our CEO is basically saying "Fuck the RIAA! We're not paying! Come and get us!" kind of attitude.

I don't blame Parn for wanting to stop. Live365 prices shouldn't have changed already, but there is nothing to guarantee. Honestly, I work here, but I would rather stream from somewhere else. I get annoyed at the DCMA violations our customers have to deal with... especially with gaming music. It's not easy choosing 4 or 5 of Nobuo Uematsu best tracks out of like 20 plus albums. Being a tech support for customers is always a good way of seeing the faults of a company... and this company has a ton of them. Live365 isn't bad, but they could do better.

Anyway, this is free to me until I find another job, so enjoy it while it lasts. Also, if you guys have suggestions, let me know.

13  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Starcraft MMO? on: May 09, 2007, 02:20:54 PM
I don't think it would be bad to compete against themselves, since the money would go to the same place. I think Blizzard quickly found out that MMO market is a money maker, if done right... and they really did it right with World of Warcraft. Sure, WoW has it's flaws, but in the end, it's more casual-friendly than most games, so they get more people to sign on, which makes them more money.

A Starcraft sequel will still get people interested, since Starcraft is still a good game, even though it is old. At least if they did that, they could still get a good amount of loyal fans to purchase that game and not cancel their WoW accounts.

Thing is, a World of Starcraft game would be the biggest news, ever. We all know it would be the most talked about game to hit the scene. Like Fei said, I would love to see a Starcraft MMO, because I really liked the story and it's futuristic. I'm kind of tired of the whole D&D or Final Fantasy lore. Plus, I don't think Blizzard would be competing since I think The Burning Crusade expansion is probably the only expansion that will come out for WoW. I mean, what other mega enemy is there to fight after the Legion?

If Blizzard decided to do a Starcraft MMO, they should definitely announce it soon, but wait to release it. Folks might think it would be competition for WoW, but if you think about it, it's still going to the same company... Plus, they still need something fresh to compete with the upcoming MMO that Square-Enix is trying to put out (at least if they are still trying). Despite FFXI having it's flaws, I still thought it was a great MMO, and I would think SE would want to improve upon it. So a Starcraft MMO would definitely be a force for them to compete with.

Besided, what's better than being a Ghost nuking the piss out of things? :P

Okay, wow, that brings up a few images I never expected to see. Hell, lets throw in the cast of Cheers while we're at it!

Now that it's been mentioned, I'll wait 5 months, and do a search... Someone probably will make a flash version of Mario Kart with Friends faces on it, by then. Haha!
