Oh God Lunar Dragon Song, just Lunar Dragon Song. -.- What was GameArts thinking?? Give me back the Lunar I know and love!!

Sheesh between that and Grandia 3 (which was actually still decent compared to fucking Dragon Song) GameArts looks to be heading in the direction that our dear Square is heading in.

Besides that....other bad handheld RPGs though they are rather old are the Shining Force GBA games, and the Breath Of Fire GBA ports, bleh.

For the sake of clarification are you talking about art style or graphics because I'm a bit confused.

Aren't they sometimes the same 0_0

I suppose when most of the games you own are JRPGs that it can't be helped. Although I do have a preference for the anime art style.

Hmm maybe that has skewed my view a bit :/ But again I'm just really getting sick of all the bashing on gamers that think graphics are important. It's especially bad over at gamefaqs I noticed, you mentioned that you decide to play a game based on the graphics first, and you get burned at the stake.

I don't know what's worse, this or the whole Hardcore gamers vs. Casual gamers war going on with Nintendo.

Yeah, it's a REALLY bad idea to start a new topic that's continuing a topic that got locked for misbehavior. I'll leave it open for now in case it somehow actually remains civil, but I'm not expecting that to last long.

When it comes to art styles I DO favor a more cartoony look, an umbrella both anime styles and stuff like Brutal Legend fall under, but I can like or at least appreciate a wide variety, and usually the most suitable one for a game IS picked; something like Demon's Souls can not have the same art style as a Tales game. It's a shame if you won't try a game due to its visual style not fitting a narrow preference, it's the kind of hurdle you need to just blow off and get past, especially because you just might appreciate the variety once you've taken the time to go through the games.

Not that there aren't limits, but those usually end up being more technical in nature and the kind of thing that can actually cause physical pain.

Thank you very much oh kind moderator^^ But yeah I'm glad you're seeing my point, and it truly is a shame because I do think alot of these WRPGs do have a lot of things I know I would love. I just wish developers could release two or three art-style versions of a game that way everyone would be pleased.

On the wider scale of this topic (Might be a bit OT since it's more about games in general and not RPGS but whateves just tell me if it is OT) it seems that people in the gaming community and fandom really do detest gamers like me who do pick games solely by the graphics first and everything else second. I always feel we get bashed alot everywhere and good-lord how many youtube rants are made about us so called "graphics-whores." Just what is it about people who value graphics that makes everyone so atagonistic compared to people who value storyline or gameplay over everything else.

I really just don't get it, but I guess this is probably like those Console Wars/fanboys debate, there are no easy answers huh.

Can we ban this troll already

Thoren, you put a huge grin on my face. I needed that, thank you. :)

I'm guessing no one wants to talk about this subject huh.... -_-

Not a troll but would you like to contribute to this discussion. So what is your opinion, could you manage to play a game when it has good gameplay and a good story but crappy graphics or a art style you detest?? What are your views on gamers like me who value graphics first and foremost??

Just putting it out there, let's turn this discussion into something lively and worthwhile.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Sorry/ RPG graphics debate on: February 16, 2011, 01:32:17 AM
This one is just going to get locked too (sadly).

Hmm you say that it's sadly eh, does that mean you're starting to see where I'm coming from?? Or do you think this topic merits a debate??

because it was a hilarious thread.

Okay.....lol I guess the snarking was slightly amusing at times. But anyways back on topic (don't want this to turn into another flame fest) Do you have any thoughts on my stance on the graphics/art-style subject????
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Sorry/ RPG graphics debate on: February 16, 2011, 01:30:18 AM
Are you trying to get banned?  This going to end up like the last thread full of flames and trolling.

Is there any way to turn this into a civil discussion :/ It's a shame I really think this is a worthwhile topic to talk about.

When a thread is locked you're not supposed to start up a whole new thread on the exact same topic.  That sort of defeats the purpose.

Oh....I was hoping to make this one a more civil debate since I really think I got misunderstood and I wish people would try to see where I'm coming from, you know.
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Sorry/ RPG graphics debate on: February 16, 2011, 01:24:55 AM
Looks like my original topic got locked, sorry about that moderator, hopefully we'll try to be more civil here.

I just get so frusturated when people act like it's a crime if I only play games based on the graphics. It's not a bad thing, and really some people can't stand playing games that they can't even look at. What's even suckier in that situation is the games are probably really good, original and fun. But gamers like me have to miss out on them because graphics are our number one priority. It's really not fair....

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I think both Western developers and Japanese ones should release versions of their games in everyone's prefererred art-style, that way everyone's happy.
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Western RPGs versus JRPGs on: February 16, 2011, 01:16:59 AM

And your point is what.....

And who cares if it's not original, it's pleasing and easy on the eyes and that's what's important.

Also I find it lulzy that you don't have the balls to respond to my elitist nerd comment. WOW. LMFAO
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Western RPGs versus JRPGs on: February 16, 2011, 01:14:31 AM
Seriously, we already met our quota on 'retarded artistes' when Prime Mover joined.

The smartest thing to ever come out of your mouth is most likely a penis.

Who the hell is "Prime Mover"

And I actually think I'm being pretty smart, I'm PRAISING WRPGS here, I agree with every single one of you on the awesomeness of it. Just because I don't like the art style and demand a more Anime look doesn't mean you have to burn me at the stake. Stop acting like elitist nerds who are always complaining about TEH EBIL YOUNG GENERATION WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT TEH GRAPHICS OMG!!!!1111

Srsly.
29  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Western RPGs versus JRPGs on: February 16, 2011, 01:10:38 AM
No look we know we're all graphics whores it's just that we go for the high-class mistresses whereas you're just hitting up street corners.

You're WRPGs are only high-class mistresses in content. In graphics however, they're worth no more than a one cent whore.

Whereas JRPGs it's the other way around, so I'd say we're about even.

30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Western RPGs versus JRPGs on: February 16, 2011, 01:07:55 AM
I think you're just an art criminal.

How so, and wow people are so pretentious on this forum. Thinking they're above wanting good graphics. Everyone is a graphic's whore, get over it. We don't all play games just primarily for the story or the gameplay. For me graphics is a dealbreaker, so go BAWWWW MOAR.
