1  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Blizzard sells out (again)? on: June 13, 2006, 09:39:17 PM
Part of me just died.

During a presentation to Wall Street today, a company representative from Vivendi reportedly said, "All Blizzard franchises will become MMOGs."
Let us hope this is not true. Since MMOs pretty much kill any continuity of a series and end the franchise, this most likely means we'll never see a StarCraft 2 or a Diablo 3.  Even if we do, it'll be a long time off or be made third-party.
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / First RPG? on: June 11, 2006, 10:04:28 PM
Wasteland, old DOS game and one of the reasons DOSbox will remain a perminant feature on my PC. Great game, it was also an inspiration for another game that remains one of my favorite games of all time: Fallout.

Wasteland got me into cRPGs, from there it was on to the AD&D titles such as Menzobarranzan and then the Ultimas. Classics.
3  Media / Miscellaneous Games / So who remembers Freelancer? on: June 11, 2006, 09:53:46 PM
Here's a game I've followed a bit, it reminds me a bit of the old space action-adventure games.  I don't know if there are any other fans of those games here (though I think Parn may have mentioned them before), I thought I'd post up and let anyone else who wants to take a look at it or follow it have that chance.
The game is called DarkStar One, it's a kind of cheesy name, the story looks a bit cheesy itself, but these games often are. Space age story arcs have a hard time avoiding cliches it seems, which I can understand a bit. The gameplay is what I'm watching for, if it is anything like Privateer you can bet I'll be all over it.
