On one end, no one forced the man to do the deed, it was a choice and a consequence you pay for or deal with if a kid comes from it.

There's no easy solution to this issue and as a result of that I try not to be too harsh toward any given viewpoint, but that argument always creeps me out just a tad because it's the very same one used to justify banning abortion. :(

EDIT: I'm not aiming that at you, of course, I know you're just throwing out ideas.  Unfortunately I've seen more than one (really bad) feminist blogger rant about how anyone who takes the "You took the risk, you need to take the responsibility" argument against abortion is a filthy misogynist and then be shocked!  Shocked I say! when they later insist that any man who gets stuck paying child support/marrying a woman because of a kid he was manipulated into having (the woman lied about use of contraception, for example) should "deal with the consequences of putting your dick where it didn't belong" and gets responses that involve quoting the previous post and calling the blogger a filthy misandrist.

My father and his get rich quick schemes...He noted a particularly resilient bug stain on the windshield of my car and stated, "Well, clearly it is resistant to UV rays, water [heavy rain] and friction [windshield wipers]. I think I need to take a sample, identify that bug, then harvest a bunch of those motherfuckers and make glue."

(...If anyone ever wondered where I get my twisted sense of humor from...)

...only ten million.

Seems legit.

Seriously though, I'm sorry about her husband, but aside from needing a reality check I think that anyone trying to sell an expensive product should employ a bit of professionalism to grease the wheels for potential customers; specifically, list the games in alphabetical order and use a damn spell checker.

It's true. :(

On a lighter note:

1. It fixes most of the problems that are causing a decline in popularity of desktop computers

As someone that works in IT, could you elaborate on how it does this?

Most of the problems that people seem to have with the desktops are portability, weight, and wiring issues.  And taking up a huge amount of space.  I've seen a lot of dedicated 'desktop' people move to things like iMacs  as a result of this to supplement their laptop. (Along with an external HD or three to handle their movie and music collection.)  Making it significantly smaller, lighter, and with wireless everything should help with those issues.  You won't be dragging it along to Starbucks, of course, but it should be able to compete reasonably well with 'everything in the screen' models.

Just contacted the debt collectors that are handling my bill. Their idea of a "hardship plan" is still $100 a month, which is about what I'm currently making and putting toward other bills. This is going to get interesting if somebody doesn't hire me soon.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this strategy to anyone else, but I had issues with debt collectors for a medical bill who continually demanded that I pay $150 a month; I was living on a $400 a month stipend so that wasn't going to happen.  I offered them lesser amounts that I could actually afford to pay and they refused to accept so I got annoyed and started telling them I would offer X amount and they could call me when they were ready to accept it and would then hang up.  After about a month of playing this game they mysteriously came across a manager who was able to bypass the minimum monthly amount that they kept insisting their rules required.

Mosquitos are fucking evil.  I have what borders on empirical proof of that in the fact that it has been averaging about 90-100 degrees over the past month with very little water and those things are still managing to thrive even though they're supposed to need pools of water to lay eggs in.  Oh, and the whole bloodsucking vermin thing.  Seriously, what kind of hell beast thrives in weather that makes rattlesnakes head for shade?  On the other hand, in spite of being in the middle of a several year long drought it's still been consistently humid out here.  Maybe there's so much damn water in the air they're able to live off of that.*  Fucking Texas.

On a different note, I found info about the new Mac Pro on Apple's page and it looks pretty cool.  Granted, I'm an Apple fan so I'm biased but a few thoughts:

1. It fixes most of the problems that are causing a decline in popularity of desktop computers
2. Given the dimensions of that thing it makes an excellent improvised weapon to whack a robber over the head with in case of a break in.  Given how expensive Macs are that might be a last resort, though.
3. Speaking of the size and shape of that thing I wonder how long it will before a meme develops featuring new buyers putting up pics online of themselves holding that thing in front of their crotch.

In other news I've been focusing on music a lot lately (and books about music), and finally (after years) ended up putting together a hi-fi system.  Yay!  Now the receiver and player and wires just need to arrive in the mail.  I was able to pick up some awesome vintage speakers on craigslist, though.

*Yes, I know, it doesn't really work that way.

I'm pretty happy about this news, too.  I loved my X-Box but favored a PS3 over a 360 since I got into the game late (around this time last year) and the library was more to my liking, and this new information certainly cements my decision for the next round of systems.  I have no idea what Microsoft was thinking, really; those added 'features' on PC games annoy the hell out of users and cause a lot of Spite Piracy, including them on a console is insane.

What a FABULOUS username.
Couldn't resist.

Brilliant.

EDIT:

Hat-tip to George Takei for this one.

I don't normally like political memes, but this one is great.

I'm definitely and happy to say I'm the second one.
One of the guuurlls on my facebook touts the few times she games.

I thought you'd like that one.  I pulled that from Facebook, actually.  That picture is pretty accurate, for some reason it is always CoD that they're playing or claim to be playing.  Only one they've heard of I guess.

It's actually a little tempting to pass that on...

And I like the sloth bit too. :)

Oh god don't.  Last think you need is an overzealous parent to see it and believing it might be real, forbidding some poor kid to never go online again. xP

This is in part hilarious and in part sad because it's true.

Quick, someone inform Obama!  Oh wait, this won't change anything?  Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Speaking of which, y'all know that 90% of the things printed on 3D printers are going to be plastic dongs.

Quoted for truth.

EDIT:  Just saw a news report saying that the US government is clearing some space for wi-fi on planes and plans to sell the license for it to the highest bidder.  I imagine that will get some ridiculously high bids; complimentary and good wi-fi on long flights would help make for a very popular airline!
