My mum searched through my garbage when she saw it was heavy.  I think she was worried I was throwing away a treasure chest filled with riches and gold.  Amazingly, she wasn't searching for drugs.  But she's just a borderline-hoarder.

My mother had a tendency to go digging through my trash to see if I threw away any mail with coupons in it whenever she was there.  Drove me up a wall, really, as I think basic respect for privacy dictates not digging through someone's trash without asking.

I feel it, really I do. :(

WOOOOOO, I GET A PART.  I mean, uh, yes, I am specialized in that regard.  Sort of, if by specialized in that regard you mean 'has no other talents'. :D *puts on pin-striped suit and fedora for a flashy writer look and takes a polite bow*

In any case, rambling train-of-thought post or not, that's not a bad idea.

No I actually thought writing was your thing based on the fact that you mentioned you were proof-reading something for a friend of yours....

I'm just being a smart ass.  I am something of a writer, really, though I haven't yet taken a serious crack at it.  Just be warned that I can be quite serious as a solo writer but if I'm stuck in a group with other writers my twisted sense of humor comes out and pretty soon we're going to end up with a game plot something along the lines of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. :D

Speaking of which, anyone who is into comics/graphic novels should really, really read the Transmetropolitan series.  It's a cyber-punk series oriented around a journalist based off of H.S.T.  Plenty of hilarious stuff and serious stuff mixed together with all sorts of nice little touches like anti-cancer pills for people who want to smoke.

Speaking of comics, The Saga of the Swamp Thing (written by Alan Moore) is awesome.  Two words:  PSYCHEDELIC POTATO.  Which, by the way, sounds like an awesome name for a boneheaded, half-assed doom/stoner metal/neo-psychedelic rock cover band.

In other semi-comic related news, a friend of mine on Facebook is fat with long hair and a huge beard (seriously, the guy should submit his pic to Jam Band Fan or Taliban) and he's also a huge comic nut.  So, when I came across a pic of Alan Moore on Wikipedia I did what any good friend would and dropped it into photo bucket, sent him the link, told him that I had run age progression software on a picture of him and that was the result and hoped that he happened to be stoned enough to believe it when he read it.

(He thought it was hilarious.)

Talking about collaborating with dice on art, I couldn't help but think when I read that ^^ how cool it would be to do an RPGfan collab project to make a game.... Dice and I could work on art and visuals, we could get dincrest to score it, you would obviously have to be director since its your concept... D, Aeolus and Eusis would have to be writers on account of I love their posts...desert walker would be a writer too because I believe he is sort of specialized in that regard..... starmongoose and yoda would also have to write on account of making me laugh.... anubis could take care of some tech-heavy stuff with his new com... mesh and kevadu would have to be storyboard or concept development because they both strike me as creative and intelligent.... and then there is a whole host of other talented folk here to get on the project with john and other administrators to help with programming......

yea.... sorry... I always wanted to make a game too.... sort of went off into fantasy-land there for a moment .... a guy can dream can't he??? (of making games while eating donuts and occasionally having sex of course....)

Firefly shirt for $10 for the next 12 hours or so.  Naturally I'm out of money right now.  Oh, and for anyone who isn't familiar with the show:  Get off your ass and buy the DVDs/blu-rays/downloads, SOMETHING and watch it.  It is awesome.

Great - now you've got me thinking "what rules are there no exceptions to?"  I'd say gravity, but there's probably something out there that doesn't obey gravity like we'd expect.

I was just being cautious, personally.  I was pretty sure that if I said 'there are exceptions to all rules' that some smart ass would immediately think of at least one.  The gravity thought is an interesting one, though.

You should visit the Fire Emblem thread.

There is an exception to most rules.

My original point still remains valid:  If a civilian with a (legally owned) gun did the things that police have done because they believed it was necessary to defend themselves they would be in jail for it.  Furthermore, people would be screaming for more gun control laws as a result of it, even if it was an isolated incident.  Hell, they do anyway even though wrongful shootings by civilian concealed carriers are virtually non-existent even in areas where there is a high density of them.  Police should not get off without punishment when they do the same thing that would get a civilian 30 to life in jail because 'they're human' and it doesn't help matters that many departments are willing to cover up when these things do happen and punish whistle blowers, and it doesn't extend to just wrongful shootings.

I read a few months back about a case where a cop was caught driving drunk in a police cruiser (slammed into another car) with a blood alcohol level of .24 and in spite of there being a hospital next door that could have done a blood draw the police that arrested him took him across town to a free clinic that conveniently didn't have anyone legally registered for the task at hand on hand which meant that the blood draw was inadmissible for use in court and another had to be taken eight hours later when they 'realized their mistake' and, unsurprisingly, his blood alcohol level was under the legal limit!  Guess what that means?  No drunk driving charge!  (the .24 reading was taken at the clinic.)  On the other hand, he is merely human and does work a stressful job for no pay.  Maybe getting hammered on the job is okay.

Seriously though, I don't think anyone is saying cops are bad until they do something good.  We're saying that there are police that behave badly and that them being let off the hook because their job is stressful is a problem and will lead to more bad cops.

Yes, we all know Dice's art is awesome. =P

And going as Hunter S. Thompson is an awesome theme.

Sand under a microscope is always most awesome.  Michael Welland has many here.

This is my favorite:
