A bit old, but an awesome story.

Writing a paper and I can't decide who has the best name from my sources:

Wardropper (I feel like this is the name for a Warhammer 40k tank or something)

Dickerson (because I have high school level of humour)

Or a feminist with the last name of Cockburn.

This is filled with win.

On a related note RE: most time spent on the board, a metal board I used to visit had a system wherein after hitting 15,000 posts you received a status reading "I HAVE NO FUCKING LIFE!!!!!"

Well, women have a slightly stronger immune system than man... just saying.

Yeah, but I've met a lot of fellow guys that will freely admit to milking it when they're sick.

I loved it, I was the only person in the house who didn't get the Swine Flu when that was going around.  I put myself in a "healthy quarantine" till the situation simmered down and wore those itchy medical masks when out of it.  Got A's in school that year.

Uggh, swine flu.  I had that shit once.  It was nasty.

Fortunately the irritating cold I've been dealing with does not yet seem to have developed into man flu.

Never heard of it before but it sounds like I may have to buy it.  Interesting book.

There is no reason (except emergencies) to stand someone up.  It is so easy to call or text to cancel.   Tunnels, I think you dodged a bullet.  It is better to not go on a date with a crappy person who shows no consideration for others.

Seems very reasonable.

Quote
The dating scene is tough to navigate.  On one date I spit my food out after the guy told me that chemtrails from airplanes are the govt purposefully spraying carcinogens on us as population control.

Hah!  Even with the luck that I've had with dating--spent most of my 'prime' dating years in a city where merely making an attempt to [POLITELY] chat with someone outside of class results in them trying to work 'BOYFRIEND' into the conversation every thirty seconds until you leave them alone, killing chances of developing any friendships, never mind dating, unless you're an Adonis, a barfly, or both of the above--I'm pretty sure I'd be running for the hills or doing some serious fucking trolling if I went on a date with a girl who started talking about chem trails.  Then again, it's normally guys that are into that variety of conspiracy theory/nonsense.  Maybe if I ran into someone into astrology...

(Actually, I'd probably get bored and open up a polite line of inquiry, which is as good as trolling for most people that believe in that kind of thing.)

Also, fuck professors that write a shitty book and use that in their class. This is ok if you're an expert in your field, but not if you're some average COM102 guy

That, too.  To their credit, some professors--generally experts in their fields--make a point of handing out late drafts of their textbooks to students for free in return for critiquing them as the class progresses.  One of my friends had a statistics prof like that; the guy even agreed to buy coffee for any student that found a mathematical or spelling error.

Yay!  Okami isn't freezing.

Also, been reading a lot and watching Breaking Bad and 30 Rock on Netflix.  Despite some complications, life is alright.

Oh, and in the US at least, fuck university book stores.  I'm all for capitalism and making a profit and whatnot, but I can't stand an on campus institution that literally pays $20 for used books and sells them for $120.  (When new ones are $140.)  Professors at my college tended to refer to that place as "The Book Mafia" and try to use older editions of textbooks when possible so we could pick up used copies off of Amazon.

God knows it's impossible for parents to do it. Who'd spent time with their kids... bleeeeegh !

I've seen several people talk about tracking games and/or banning them (generally people on the left/not Fox News sorts, ironically), and they never seem to come across the idea that parents should pay attention to what type of games their kids play.  Seriously, we don't suggesting banning movies because little kids shouldn't be watching violent, R-rated ones aimed at an adult audience, the same should apply to video games.

Not that I expect anything clever on the internet over 80% of the time (RPGFan is a good place though!), yeah, this kinda stuff happens.

Ah well, congrats to the first-ever Indian-American Miss America (and yeah, she was born in NY).

EDIT: Sorry to post more of a meme-like picture, but it summarized things quickly and easily

It's amazing that there is a wide world of hate beyond that little corner of the internet we frequent every day

I was surprised to see that stuff; on the other hand, one article that I read on the subject pointed out that the fact that the ranting has to be limited to peoples' Twitter accounts and/or blogs is progress from where we used to be.  The cave dwellers essentially have to pick up a megaphone to have a voice now.

Also, I found the whole thing bizarrely hilarious and/or because neither her name nor her appearance say "Arab" to me.

Also, lol at Indian Indian/American Indian mix and the confusion that would result.

....My father just says Bhopal Indian or John Wayne Indian. >_>

I started having freezing problems on my PS3 shortly before it YLODed.  Just a warning...I'm not sure what you can actually do about it other than try to keep the system as cool as possible.  And back up your saves and stuff.

Interesting.  What I find odd is that it works fine with disc-based games, but not with Okami HD, which is a download.  Seems like the opposite of the usual situation.

?  YLOD has nothing to do with the disc drive.

I'm just saying that most people having freezing problems with their system tend to report freezing problems with disc-based games rather than downloaded ones.  Fortunately (..sort of) Okami is the only game it happens with, so I'm not expecting any YLOD to be coming soon.

UPS is fucking terrible never using them again.

A few weeks ago I sent two packages to a friend of mine.  With two different tracking numbers.  Even though both packages were well-packed they managed to damage some of the goods in one and decided to send it back to me...

...and sent the other package  back to me, while sending the package with broken stuff along.

They then proceeded to blame the damage on "poor packaging" (bullshit), refuse to refund me, and to add injury to insult, the sorry fuckers billed me $20 and change for shipping the package back to me.

Fortunately, when they realized what a colossal fuck up they had made in sending back the wrong package they agreed to refund both the $20 they'd billed me for their fuck up and the original cost of shipment for the package.

I'm still never using those fuckers again.
