My father worked in law enforcement for a while and spoke to me about one particular meeting with a jailer; the guy estimated that about half of the female guards on staff were having affairs with prisoners.  Easy pickings and all.  But yeah, it's odd that those women didn't have the sense to be on contraception.

RE: Boston stuff, I'm glad that one is down (and thus not going to hurt any more people) but I can hope they can take the second one alive and get some information out of him about the bombing.  Also, between politicians already rushing to leverage this situation for political gain and the conservative sites my father reads picking apart every quote they can from the bombers and/or family members to get an "HOMG MUSLIMS ARE TEH EVIL" reaction I'm getting really sick of people--across the political spectrum--using this tragedy as an excuse to push their shit.

I know, I know.  Getting ratings and pushing a political viewpoint is consistently more important than accurate reporting and sensitivity when it comes to important issues.

That depends; if you're listening to MP3s everything will sound like you're listening to a radio no matter how good your headphones are because that's how they sound.  Are you using lossless or MP3s?  For that matter, are you using a pre-amp or running the headphones straight into a computer/cheap stereo?  All of these things make a difference.


On a different note, I don't think any of you are the sort of dick that will report Facebook pages as offensive because you happen to disagree with their political content (or some picture they show) but this is important anyway.  Definitely worth a read and (hopefully) worth sharing.

EDIT:  A friend from New Zealand recommended the Preacher series to me saying that he thought I'd enjoy the general vibe of it and also identify with it some being from and currently living in Texas.  There was a line in the second volume that brought that point home; "If the devil created Texas, as some think he did, this is where he rested on the seventh day."  The writer may be Irish, but he knows how other Americans feel about Texas...at least the ones on the internet. :D

What frustrates me most about this mess right now is that instead of waiting for evidence to come in  and covering the facts, various political groups and/or segments of the media (hardly a difference between the two, frankly) are busy throwing blame at each other for the attack.  For fuck's sake, have some respect for the victims and take a day off from screaming at each other and focus on covering the facts, finding out new information, and giving people information about charities that will let them help.

Jesus christ that fucking level!  That brings back traumatizing memories. :(
