1  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Listen to his story again... on: March 27, 2014, 07:51:34 PM
Just downloaded the remaster from PSN. I've never played the international version of FFX so this is almost like a whole new experience for me. So far everything is great and the remaster does not disappoint. Only issue (aside from not having a skip cutscene option) is that in most cutscenes the background music drowns out the dialogue. A lot of the time it's hard to make out what the characters are saying with the background music playing at the same time, so I have to keep the subtitles on.
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Are turn-based console RPGs officially dead? on: December 17, 2013, 10:01:49 PM
I don't see turn-based RPGs ever going back to the popularity they had back in the day, but I'm still going to enjoy my collection of them. I think turn-based games down the line are only going to be made by indie developers or be small scale in general, outside of Pokemon of course.

The non-existent ones.

Dude. Wakka.

I know. My biggest, beefiest looking party member... throws a ball at people. And it can do more damage than slicing someone's abdomen with a sword. >.<

I love fantasy rpgism, but when you're going for a level of realism in design and plot at least stick with it. Sword strike doing more harm than a bullet? It can, assuming you dodge the rain of bullets to get the strike in. Ultima outdamaging a gun? Makes sense. Nunchucks? Sure. A staff? Why not. Attack with a volleyball? NO.

Hey man, can you imagine how painful those welts would be? He probably lets a little bit of the air out before he hits you for that extra sting.
5  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: So finished FFXII....onto The Legend of Dragoon on: June 27, 2013, 03:34:31 AM
Legend of Dragoon was the first RPG I ever returned after playing. I couldn't get myself through the first disc due to getting bored with it. Bought it again years later and got through the entire game and I can't say that I'm too big a fan of it. The novelty of the battle system got old pretty quickly and the bad localization made it really hard to get invested in the characters. Some of the translations were laughably bad (i.e. Boss character after being defeated: "I was proud to receive your fist, master!" Haschel: Quiet! Talking makes you die!") XD

Turning into dragoons is usually pointless as well. I think all the love for the game these days comes from the rose-tinted glasses. I was pretty surprised at all the excitement for its release on PSN. Although it wasn't all bad. Best part of TLOD for me were the graphics for water, which were pretty awesomely done.
6  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Square-Enix exploring the possibility of a modern turn-based Final Fantasy on: June 14, 2013, 02:19:08 PM
Would a modern RPG with turn-based gameplay be able to sell well these days? That's what it comes down too, and I think gamers as a whole have been too meshed into the action RPG style for turn-based to hold a modern audience's attention.

The douche levels of that guy are incalculably high.
9  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What do you think of Spoony's Final Fantasy Reviews? on: June 11, 2013, 06:15:36 PM
wow this guy is horrible. is he one of those idiots that think any FF not done in the style of ff6/9 is garbage?

His gimmick is to be controversial so his reviewing style certainly isn't for everyone. He's said in his reviews that the FF series has continuously gone downhill, though he does point out positives in the later games like in his review of FFX where he blasted the story and the sphere grid but did talk about how he really enjoyed the battle system.

Well Spoony has completed his reviews on Final Fantasy XIII (review series is parts 1 - 4) and will be starting Final Fantasy XIII-2 in a few months it seems. Has anybody watched them yet?

I think he's gotten a little better in terms of reviewing the content of the game itself. Sure there are some things exaggerated but I did get a laugh out of the things I agreed with him on.
11  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dark Souls 2 on: June 11, 2013, 03:42:26 PM
I still can't beat Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. Now I'm going to buy a third game that I can't beat :(
12  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Are you ready to embrace a digital-content era? on: June 11, 2013, 02:52:15 PM
I don't think I'll ever be able to completely stray from hard copies. There's just something great about being able to open up a game case, get that new game smell, flip through the instruction manual and write your own notes in it. Going completely digital takes away some of the experience that you should get with gaming. I mean after Netflix came out there just isn't much fun in going to the movie theater anymore. And did you ever have those Friday nights where you and your family would go to the local video store and search for your movies and get snacks and all that? Miss those days.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: SQUARE ENIX Presents, Live Broadcast E3 Showcase on: June 11, 2013, 02:33:43 PM
Key word there is "Get it done"

This is, after all, Square Enix showing us a trailer for a game that is simply "In Development." They tend to have a habit lately of debuting titles several years before we actually see a release date.

True. But I'm just happy they've confirmed to be working on it.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: SQUARE ENIX Presents, Live Broadcast E3 Showcase on: June 11, 2013, 02:23:20 PM
Kingdom Hearts 3 being revealed just solidified my decision to purchase PS4 when it releases - well that and all the other advantages it has over Xbone - but I'm glad KH3 is confirmed. I thought they would never get it done.
15  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: XBOX: A New Generation Revealed, May 21st on: June 11, 2013, 12:17:11 AM
So it's confirmed that the PS4 has a $399 pricetag, will be able to play used games, won't require users to check in periodically, and won't stop working if you haven't authenticated in 24 hours.

So...yeah, what's the point of buying a glorified television that turns into a rock without an internet connection? Especially when Sony has none of those huge drawbacks that Xbone has.
