I enjoyed DS1, it's not as in depth as the Persona stuff nor as hard as Nocturne but it's got a decent story and I really liked the way the demons can be used, and must be sometimes, in and out of battle, my only real complaint was the somewhat repetitiveness of the areas traversed, but overall while I find it the weakest of the SMT games I've played it's still much better than a lot of the crap out there.

Mother-in Law (whom I adore BTW) bought me Mana Khemia Student Alliance (little lady told her I really liked Mana Khemia)...thank god she saved the receipt, lol!

God Damn, I put out $15 for the PS2 versions just last month. Well, I'll get it eventually anyways. I've seen ZoE2 in HD. I cannot go back.
Oh, and I'll be getting the other HD collections, too.
Man, if it wasn't pure luck I'd be in the same boat. My son freaking loves MGS and he's always after me to play 'em. So two days ago I went to buy them but changed my mind while at the store, now I'll simply wait for HD ones and then won't even have to borrow his. |

For me a story has to make me feel invested in the characters. The story can be cliche or even unoriginal as long as it's told in an interesting way and I develop some type of rapport with the characters involved. As KeeperX stated I don't have to necessarily like them, in fact I can actually dislike them as long as I feel something for them, if I am indifferent then obviously I have developed no emotional attachment and the story is boring me. Case in point, the cast of SO4 was so bad I simply didn't care one way or another about much of what was going on, while the story in Rogue Galaxy was certainly cliched but I enjoyed the characters so I enjoyed the story. So may be for me it's a writing and/or acting aspect. If one or the other is good then I'll inevitably like the story better (we are talking video games here obviously, not books or movies) even supposing I realize the story is sub-par.

I don't really mind if they use the same battle system but I'd like to see it tweaked a bit. I actually wish it would be slowed down just a bit so I could see more of what was happening as opposed to numbers flying all over the screen. I like watching the game I'm playing , not staring at my HP numbers go up and down and my attack numbers flashing seemingly non-stop across the screen.
