The Helper Monkey / Word Verification/Captcha help
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:40:28 PM »
This problem has plagued me for ages and I feel it has finally become enough of a nuisance to try and solve it.

Word verification/audio verification and captcha thingies WILL NOT appear or load anywhere for me. This is not a site specific issue, nor a browser specific issue. I cannot complete any sign-up requiring it and have tried reloading the same page in multiple IE browsers and chrome browsers.

Additionally I tried lowering all security and privacy settings to their minimum to see if that solves the problem... it did not. I have basically tried screwing with every setting in the "tools" or "settings" tabs in my browsers with no luck so I don't believe the problem lies there....

Anyone have any ideas? In the past I have been using my Iphone to sign up for stuff as a work-around for the problem but I would love to fix it.

General Discussions / compulsive need to finish games
« on: September 27, 2013, 02:26:08 PM »
I hate my OCD tendencies... truth be told, as strange and "icky" as Kingdom Hearts made me feel... and with all the other games I'm itching to get to... After having traded in my copy upon deeming it unhealthy for me and buying a WII U bundle, I STILL CANNOT GET THIS STUPID GAME OFF MY MIND! I've literally had recurring nightmares for a week now involving KH.

This all stems from me being a freakin' fruit loop and needing to finish what I start. I feel like I can't even get to disgaea in a week and half from now happily (despite it being my favorite franchise period) without taking the plunge and getting through this and at the same time, somewhere in my gut I know I shouldn't.

Yes it IS just a game... no it shouldn't affect me like this... and good god how liberating it would be to just say "i don't like it, no sir, not even looking at that again".... But my disordered thinking and tendencies dictate otherwise for me.

Does anyone else have this type problem? How do you handle it? Do you just knock em out and conquer games for the sake of your sanity or do you level with yourself and say realistically "this should just yield enjoyment" and drop em.

I'm making a post about it and inquiring because I never realized until now how vexing a problem this is for me and my gaming. With some titles being as long as they are, the compulsive need to finish what you start could net you quite a few hours of torture.

Am I the only one that suffers from this brand of insanity?

EDIT: I should note that I do know myself well enough to know that the answer for me in situations such as this is beat the snot out of the game. Its the only answer for an obsessive compulsive fool such as myself. I'm really just curious to see how you folks deal with this type of thing... or whether you deal with it at all-haha

General Discussions / Moving into the next gen with Sony. Advise me please.
« on: September 25, 2013, 03:02:42 PM »
So I've got my buck up to buy the PS4. I know I'm gonna want it eventually, and I've blindly grabbed every other playstation at launch without regret. But as I reflect it was always easy to move on to the next gen because there were games I wanted to pop in and play. At present, I see nothing at launch that even remotely peaks my interest. That aside, I see lots of titles coming out I could just pre-order and pay off for the ps3 that I KNOW i am going to NEED in my collection.

So my question is as follows, although the answer seems obvious... is there any reason I am missing to jump onto the ps4 bandwagon at launch? Would it be a better move to buy the half dozen RPG's and spin-offs I want coming out tentatively between now and 1st quarter next year instead?

I really sort of feel that (unless I overlooked something) my tastes really are not going to be catered to via the PS4 for some time and it would prove a better decision to let the library get fleshed out with some more titles first.

I suppose my confusion stems from being a creature of habit and always grabbing a playstation at launch like a tradition. But this generation still seems to have quite a bit of life left to it and the fact that sooooo much came out worth playing I haven't even gotten to yet makes me wonder if it would be pragmatic to break tradition at this point....

What I would really like to hear is some good logic behind jumping in head-first and getting the ps4 because right now I see NO reason to just yet.

I am also curious about sony's silly device activation. I have 2 ps3's and a psp activated already. Presuming I grab a vita in addition to the ps4, does this mean I am going to have to deactivate and retire systems to activate and effectively utilize my new hardware??

Lastly, as we all remember, launch model hardware for the ps3 was leagues beyond the models that came soon there-after. Does anyone see this being the case with the PS4?

Anime, TV, and Movies / Halloweeny Stuff
« on: September 16, 2013, 07:36:31 PM »
I really like to keep my media thematically appropriate to games I play and seasons and whatnot... That being said, with the fall upon us, does anyone have any spooky/halloween esque suggestions or favorites? Anything is fair game (anime, movies, cartoons, specials et cetera....)

In terms anime, I have already seen all of the following so I would to hear about some others...
-Rosario Vampire..... errr something to that effect
-Ghost Hunt
-Blue Exorcist
-Ghost Hound
-Occult Academy
-Soul Eater
-Phantom: Requiem of the Phantom (didn't finish, considering trying to give a re-watch)
-High School of the Dead (also didn't finish and considering giving another go)

As for movies I suppose any good horror flick qualifies. I'd LOVE to hear your folks favorite horror flicks!! Tis my favorite genre next to 80's retro-fantasy! My picks include (but are not limited to) the following.

-The Exorcist
-Nightmare on Elm Street (everything up to the new nightmare)
-Almost any film based on a Steven King novel including the "made for TV varieites" (I actually adored steven weber in the remake of "The Shining")
-Fright Night

And last but not least TV/Cartoons.... In truth I'm too unfamiliar with this category to contribute so I will hold my tongue. As such though, I am really into hearing about what you guys like. I will however admit to having a strong appreciation for all the old looney toons halloween episodes.

So that does it. Let those cooky and creepy suggestions fly folks!

Anime, TV, and Movies / Buh Bye Miyazaki
« on: September 01, 2013, 02:03:14 PM »

I personally am not a Miyazaki die-hard by any means so I didn't find this to be all that jarring. Plus, I swear this isn't the first time I read he was retiring... maybe I'm losing it... In any event, I figured this was news worth posting.

EDIT: Please don't take my statement as ignorance or Miyazaki "hate". He is like Mario to me.... that is to say, gaming wouldn't be what it is if not for nintendo or mario and I recognize that. I may not love Mario, but I do love gaming and thus I must tip my hat to the plumber (and nintendo). The same applies to Miyazaki for me.

Although I will say this... Howls Moving Castle struck me as pretty freakin' extraordinary if for nothing other than the character of Howl himself. Additionally I've really appreciated a great deal of the older Lupin material I have seen.

General Games / Oh the great Mario... How I can't play you
« on: August 18, 2013, 04:19:23 PM »
So last night I got an urge to play an old Mario title from yesteryear. As a kid, much like everyone else, I played the hell out Mario. After last night, I don't know how I managed it....

I have confirmed that I officially suck, with a capital SUCK, at 2-d platformers. I could not get through the first stages, let alone worlds in Mario 1, 2, or 3-lol

I'm giving super Mario world 2 yoshi's island a try now with better luck. Seems to be a vastly different platform mechanic to me.

The thing is, while not great at them, I can usually manage current gen platformers. This experience really made me realize how much easier and more accessible games have become. Dashed are my hopes of ever seeing the uber-cool water world in Mario 3 again without an unjustifiable degree of frustration... I will stick to the paper Mario's from now on.

Gee golly do I feel defeated... I guess this means nostalgia-playthroughs of mega man and donkey kong country are also a pipe dream (har har har, did u catch the joke???).

This is not cool. How do they expect anyone to dip their toes in all of Disgaea:D2's post game content with this landing but one short month later!!

Given the next gen releases this fall/winter I can't expect this is game is going to foster much attention. Being a die-hard for NIS LE's I'm pretty excited none-the-less but seriously... with the release schedule for games as it I probably won't get to this until this time next year.

The Soundroom / Alice in Chains without Layne
« on: August 12, 2013, 04:52:41 PM »
So I am a die-hard early nineties rock fan. Big time... As such, I suppose it only natural I was big fan of the late Layne from Alice in Chains.

Well post Layne I must admit, I never gave em a chance. Hardly even a listen to be honest.

Last week someone got in touch with me to babysit their kid and take him to a coheed and cambria concert that Alice in Chains was headlining. Sounded like a sweet deal and thus I went.

Now to the point of my post... gee golly guys, the dude they got to replace Layne NAILS IT!!! I feel foolish having not given the "new" band a chance after Layne. That is really all I have to say. Hell of a show. Hell of a band.

Sorry for not having more to express but its 3 days post the show and I just still can't believe how incredibly well that new guy mimics Layne to tee.  The new recordings and albums do not do him justice. To hear him play their hits live (admittingly the Alice in Chains hits are some of my least favorite tunes by the band) is otherworldly...Listening to him gave me flashbacks of watching headbangers ball and whatnot on MTV!!-LoL

Some of the most impressive shows I've seen were no-name bands on small stages and never big-name headliners like this. I was thoroughly shocked and stoked about how impressive Alice in Chains was. On the flip side, Janes Addiction (the other headliner) was boring as sin to me. I felt like Perry Ferrel didn't even want to be singing/playing.

General Games / Animal Crossing New Leaf Tomorrow... Anyone?
« on: June 08, 2013, 05:32:14 PM »
I don't really know which forum board this belonged on so I posted it here...

Will anyone be investing in animal crossing new leaf? I am on the fence about it personally. I have no experience with any of the other animal crossing games and the fact that the title lacks a plot or goal (aside from building up your town) doesn't seem terribly enthralling to me.

On the other hand, if a few other members of the RPGFan community were playing too I can see this being fairly occupying.

So what is the story guys? Anyone going to be playing this or have opinions in favor of or against that they care to share?

Also, for the record, I LOVE to see Dice's town-LoL

EDIT: By the way (to the powers that be here on the boards)... If I have erroneously started this thread in the wrong section please move it. I wasn't really sure what "type" of game this actually qualified as (in spite of the fact that you do assume the "role" of mayor) so I figured miscellaneous was the safest bet.

General Discussions / Most aesthetic armor you've seen
« on: June 04, 2013, 09:01:18 PM »
So I'm working on a tattoo for a client of mine. He wants body armor tattooed from the waist up.... no joke.

As such I need some inspiration here. What is some of the coolest looking body armor you guys have come across? Any ideas are welcome as I will using multiple references as "jump off" points to draw visual styling from.

EDIT: I should have noted, this armor is going to be medieval and very "byzantine" in style. So ,while all ideas are welcome, anything along those lines would be most helpful!

Single-Player RPGs / Battle Princess Of Arcadias
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:27:46 PM »
I know there is not much about this yet (no screens or any concrete info) in circulation but when I read this...
... I couldn't help but become excited over the prospect of a metroid-vania title with a touch of Disgaea. In spite of my disdain for the prinny platformers they did for the psp (ok... so the games were alright, I just SUCKED at them with a capital SUCK... not fun) I am still sort of stoked to see what they pull off with this. The fact that it is for PS3 and not the vita only compounds my enthusiasm.

Odd with a tentative release of late september there isn't more info though...

The Bazaar / Ni No German Edition, going cheap!
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:07:10 AM »
So I got the german wizards edition even though I am currently playing an american standard copy of the game.... in other words, I have an extra german copy of the game.... before I throw it on ebay for retail I thought I would offer it up here to you guys for a wee bit cheaper in case someone who is interested in the game wants a crack at it for less the 60 bucks..... i feel like everyone should play this game! LoL

Sooooo... lets say 40 buck for you guys (shipping included).... game is still sealed so NO ONE CAN COMPLAIN THAT ANYTHING SMELLS LIKE CIGARETTES EXCEPT FOR THE PLASTIC WRAPPER-LoL!!!!

remember, it is german (even though ps3 is not region locked) so any DLC has to be the german dlc.... payment via paypal puh-lease :)

So I just got traded an Xbox 360 for some tattoo time along with Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, last remnant and will be picking up magnacarta2.... On the Xbla I'm looking at grabbing bastion and maybe dust... not sure....

Here is the thing, I don't want to start anything too involving or engrossing with Ni No Kuni on the way.... But I need to scratch the "xbox itch" i've got at the moment....

Tales of Vesperia is out.... I love the Tales games... if I play this now, Ni No will totally take a back-seat....

Lost Odyssey is out.... time sink and turn based..... not good for co-current ni no play-LoL

I'm not well enough informed to make a call here on the other titles...also not sure which I am over-looking/haven't considered yet.... I'm guessing my safest bet would be some of the Xbla stuff??

Anyhow, you guys never steer me in the wrong direction (and I'll totally listen this time.... I promise it won't be another "I'm gonna play Rorona no matter what you say!!" instance...)..... That said, please DO NOT limit suggestions to what I've listed here.... Any additional suggestions, including simply "must haves" to flesh out my xbox library would be appreciated as well (i read the RPGfan reviews and got what I have already, based on them)

Thanks ahead of time folks! Its advice in these particular instances that really make me love you all so....

General Games / wii games that don't require motion controller
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:24:35 PM »
so with the wii on its way out, titles are getting cheaper and cheaper.... I never fleshed out my wii library on account of... well.... I freakin' hate motion control.... soooooo, does anyone have any suggestions (outside of VC and gamecube titles) that don't require it?? Xenoblade and Last story aside (they are actually the only two already in my wii library-lol)

So, I don't do much aside from play games and work..... actually I don't do anything else... and while I know some of the best deals for holiday shopping can all be taken advantage of online, I love indulging myself in a little real life mass-madness come black friday....

For any other masochists who enjoy the economic/consumer depravity of this disgusting event, such as myself, I came across this little list of the deals....

To Highlight something I noticed quickly..... apparently a lot of the game specific deals at wal-mart are not revealed until scanned for purchase.... so don't let that price tag of 59.99 fool you.... X-Com truly is 25 bucks at 8pm tonite :)
