Did you watch it subbed or dubbed?  I thought the dub was solid.  And the whole "bear" line is still my favorite of the dub.

Dub, and it was GREAT!! The names of characters alone leave some of the lines quite entertaining to hear. In the ep with "Sandwich" I couldn't help but get a kick out of damn near every line spoken with the inclusion of that awkward name.

Its so cool to learn of other AiC fans in the RPGFan community!! :)

I agree. DuVall is pretty good at filling Staley's shoes (which is in no way an easy task). I haven't heard their latest work, but I do like Black Gives Way to Blue. I'm glad you got to enjoy them live. They are easily my favorite of the early 90s hard rock/grunge bands.

On this note, I just saw a few videos Of Live with their new singer this morning. First time I ever "saw" them with this dude. He nails it, too. I'm not at all a fan the religion-laden material that came after The Distance to Here, so I'm hoping their upcoming material will be more akin to their 90s stuff, if not something different/better altogether.

I didn't even realize Live has a new singer. Throwing copper was one of the first albums I ever bought myself as a kid when I started getting into music. I totally gotta check that out. Thanks for the tip!

My first impressions...

1. This is NOT Graces F by any means.

2. I am not a fan of getting to select my MC here. Too much "even-ness" has made this decision hard for me. I hate jude. I like milla. Jude's gameplay is waaaay better. Jude's battle them rocks... but... I hate jude... and really want to see the Milla content... I restarted twice already. Still feel somewhat undecided.

3. This really is not Graces F...

Last question for you guys in regard to character selection. If I pick Milla and just play as other characters in battle for the most part, can I have the best of both worlds? That is, see all the Milla content whilst still enjoying the best gameplay??... Well I mean I know I CAN do this, but is there a flaw to my theory I'm overlooking??? And does anyone know if the ending is different depending on the MC? That would seal the deal for me as I think this one will only be getting one play-through from me and I really don't feel I will have tended to all that I care to if I don't see the "Milla Ending" if one in fact exists.

Dice - I won't complain about the dungeons because up to now, it's still better than Graces F (not that that was hard to beat)

Why does everyone give Graces F's dungeons shit?  I won't argue that many (maybe most) of Graces F's dungeons were fairly uninspired, but I thought it had several that were quite good.  Better than anything in Vesperia for sure (now that game had boring dungeons).  Ones I liked include (but are not limited to) the Wallbridge Ruins, Sandshroud ruins, Lastalia Shaft, and Arcadia Garden.  Even Inside the Rockagagong was OK.  Seriously, I definitely think Graces F's dungeons were above-average for a modern JRPG.

Maybe I just look for different things in a dungeon than most people do.  As you might guess from my list above, I like things that are hard to navigate.  Makes me think.

I loved Graces F's dungeons personally. To be honest there was not much about Graces F I didn't love but the dungeons themselves stood out as a strong point to me. I'm with you on dungeon design Kevadu, I enjoy em a bit Labyrinth-esque and confusing.

On the Xillia note, I'm finally starting it tonight when I get out of work! GEEEEEEEE GOLLLLLY am I EXCITED!!!! The prospect of starting this post normal mode in Dragon's Crown made beating that damn lizard infinately more rewarding today. Tis a good day in the gaming career of Klyde Chroma, indeed :)
1040  Media / The Soundroom / Alice in Chains without Layne on: August 12, 2013, 04:52:41 PM
So I am a die-hard early nineties rock fan. Big time... As such, I suppose it only natural I was big fan of the late Layne from Alice in Chains.

Well post Layne I must admit, I never gave em a chance. Hardly even a listen to be honest.

Last week someone got in touch with me to babysit their kid and take him to a coheed and cambria concert that Alice in Chains was headlining. Sounded like a sweet deal and thus I went.

Now to the point of my post... gee golly guys, the dude they got to replace Layne NAILS IT!!! I feel foolish having not given the "new" band a chance after Layne. That is really all I have to say. Hell of a show. Hell of a band.

Sorry for not having more to express but its 3 days post the show and I just still can't believe how incredibly well that new guy mimics Layne to tee.  The new recordings and albums do not do him justice. To hear him play their hits live (admittingly the Alice in Chains hits are some of my least favorite tunes by the band) is otherworldly...Listening to him gave me flashbacks of watching headbangers ball and whatnot on MTV!!-LoL

Some of the most impressive shows I've seen were no-name bands on small stages and never big-name headliners like this. I was thoroughly shocked and stoked about how impressive Alice in Chains was. On the flip side, Janes Addiction (the other headliner) was boring as sin to me. I felt like Perry Ferrel didn't even want to be singing/playing.

I've been bad... I finished up Sorcerer Hunters last week and never turned in my report!! LoL

What a freakin' great series if you dig the 90's fantasy fare. It actually has quite a few qualities I found unique. For one, its the fly-by-episode sorcerers that stole the show for me as opposed to the main cast. Some were really entertaining, while others just cool. Despite the fact that they act in "monster of the week" type fashion (never appearing again, with no development) some totally proved memorable to me. The transvestite leader of the Haz Knights and Zaha Torte' also proved characters I won't soon forget.

Without becoming spoiler-rific the final scenes featuring Zaha were really creepy to me for some reason. I feel like there was some heavy symbolism there despite how light hearted the series is by nature.

Dincrest buddy, thanks again for turning me onto this one. Highlight of my summer-anime-viewing for sure!

Well at Lvl 33 Noelle the elf is a hero in the land. Epic Elf trophy earned, Crown obtained, dragon DEAD!!!! I know the game opens up on hard and whatnot but I gotta put this thing down for a spell.... this game is addicting like a bug bit... you wanna keep scratching until it hurts and bleeds.

Don't give up kevadu! In addition to the uber-good advice d offered, do random rooms til you get some decent allies to resurrect and add to your party. I've been finding adding high level caster types and fighters to my party helps me drop the beasts life considerably more before my allies die as a result of their own idiocy. I am sending this reply via my phone from work.... I can't wait to get done so I can get home and beat the snot out of that dragon.... After costing me my secret or mana time this weekend the battle has become personal...
1044  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Earthbound now out on Wii U VC (seriously) on: August 11, 2013, 06:43:40 PM
(although you have most of Jeff's stuff by then, so you can use his items instead of magic).

Jeff's combat items are a GODSEND latter in the game. Without his combat items I really couldn't imagine having had the patience to enjoyably finish the game to be honest.
1045  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Earthbound now out on Wii U VC (seriously) on: August 11, 2013, 04:29:26 PM

Don't worry about conserving magic -- you don't really need to. Magic butterlfies are plentifulish.

It's really not a hard game by any means. And there is an in-game hint system.

I agree with everything you said Mesh, with the exception of these two points. I can recall quite often running out of magic and being in a catch 22 situation where roaming around to find a butterfly led to fights that would force me to consume more magic to win... thus exacting a never ending cycle of struggling to move forward whilst preserving MP to no avail (particularly a problem earlier in the game).

As for the difficulty... it jumps. While for the most part I didn't have a huge problem, some points in the game proved pretty freakin' challenging to me. And it didn't get better for me as time went on. I almost ripped my hair out trying to get through Magiccant (spelling??).

So I got all the talismans and made it to final boss dragon dude...but this guy is kicking my butt.  And suddenly you're not allowed to resurrect people, so no buying your way to victory.

I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be trying to solo him.  But AI companions are dumb as bricks and are you even allowed to do this fight in multiplayer?

I have most of this dragon's patterns figured out, but there are still some attacks (like the dual tornado thingy) that seem undodgeable and still do a ton of damage.  And when the skeletons show up in the second half of the fight...ugh.  It's not like I can't deal with skeletons on their own, but dealing with them at the same time as I worry about all the dragon's attacks is a pain in the ass...

2 nights in a row that dragon bested me after a quick level-up adventure... tonite I shall not fail dag-nabbit!!! I gave up my retro-gaming-weekend-agenda this week to beat this thing so I can start tales of xilia properly, with all my focus, and THAT IS what WILL happen. Kinda feels good to have this sort of grindy challenge at the end of the standard adventure albeit a bit of a jump from the difficulty of the stages.
1047  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon's Crown (Vanillaware RPG, now 2013 all regions) announced for PS3/Vita on: August 11, 2013, 03:22:42 AM

But damn does this game need more than 9 stages.  Seriously, that's just not enough.  You will be going back to the same locations over and over and over.  The B routes help, of course, but they still don't cut it.  Much of the stages are repeated regardless of route and many of the B routes still feel very similar to their A counterparts.  Still, they do give you a whole new set of bosses and that's good because like I said I really like the boss fights.

Vanillaware, please make DLC for Dragon's Crown with more stages.  That's all I want.

That about sums up my only complaint and desire as well, but I have yet to reach the labyrinth either. Labyrinth aside the gameworld/length feels tiny and the narrative condensed in some sense. I feel like everything could easily have been fleshed out to greater length with more environments without feeling even remotely padded in the interest of prolonging the experience.

All talisman acquired! My level 26 elf was a wee bit too weak to conquer the game on normal yesterday, but I shall not fail tonite!!

And wow did this game take on a whole new identity with network mode. Quasi-frantic action turns bat sh*t crazy and depending on the variables the difficulty really varies and keeps you on your toes. I'm not gonna lie... I think I was quite the burden to some random groups I got teamed with at first-LoL. But holy-heck is it fun!

I just unlocked network mode before I went to bed last night.

Can you only play with people on your friends list, or is it anyone that has the game?
Random groups or friend list, no choices for the randoms.

And umm... this is probably an obvious and dumb question but how do I select available friends to play with? I've only done random... As in, I go off and hit continue adventure with network mode going and end up in a party.

EDIT: Forgive me if the answer to my inquiry is in the instructions. I am off to work and can't check ATM. I am not trying to be lazy or ignorant.

45 minutes or so with Jude and milla has led me to the conclusion I have to pick milla to enjoy this. Something About Jude really irks me. His disposition is to unlike my own for me to enjoy him as my MC. Milla is at least somewhat of a weirdo and I can at least relate to that. Lol

Network unlocked! Mission accomplished! I actually pulled it off before work and didn't realize it... Just had 2 story sequences and a visit to the stables to get things up and running!
