Sadly I never got to Khemia. With the exception of Persona, I've always had a bias against school/academy settings in games and anime. I think I missed some cooooooool stuff as a result of that bias. Khemia is certainly one I keep in my back pocket for a rainy day though.

NOTE: My bias is purely based on a jealousy factor. I always wanted to go back to school/college and never found the opportunity whilst trying to foster a career. Thinking about  how much I would enjoy an academic environment sort of bums me out. LoL

I have a pretty rotten cold so I've stayed in this weekend - but I picked up South Park and I am loving it.

Holy christ though, Al Gore is bloody annoying.

This year will not conclude without me getting to that game. As far outside the realm of my typical interests as it lies, I have had an itch to play south park since it came out. Funny thing is I am not a South Park fan. I only watched the trailers and whatnot for the game but it was totally enough to make me realize it would be a breath of fresh.

If you renamed Resident Evil 6 as any other name, it probably would have been much better game. Because it's resident evil though, it immediately gets slammed for being too much action and not scary enough.

Shame, it's really a fun game overall.

Thats the thing, I was hoping for either more action oriented gameplay or some genuine fright. I don't feel it was delivering on EITHER front. I can think of quite a few games I would place well ahead of RE6 to quench my thirst for action.

Now I did only play single player. All you guys who enjoyed co-op may have tasted a flavor of RE6 that I have not so I am admittingly ignorant in that regard.

Bottom line for me, RE6 is out and next weeks horror title gamble (trying some new game I really know nothing about) is gonna be the episodic Siren game. Not looking for action there but the atmosphere looks creepy as sin.

In other news.....

Rescued Roland, discovered the joy of "loot the world" and QR codes in Borderlands 2.

Xilla 2: I think I broke it completely. I haven't beat it yet and I'm trouncing bosses on hard with very little effort. Thing is, I didn't try to power level once. I just compulsively have completed almost every job since the first chapter and spammed Element Ore bonus food the whole game. I'm hoping for a difficulty spike around the bend of some sort before this all wraps up.

In the interest of the season that is upon us, I felt like taking advantage of the Capcom sale (on PSN) and grabbing Resident Evil 6.

Now, I did my homework. I read about the complaints of quick time events and what have you. But honestly, my standards and what I find enjoyable is so far removed from the typical I really wasn't too concerned. Top it off with the fact that I really enjoyed my time with RE 1-5 and I figured I was in for a nice experience.

I COULD NOT have been more wrong.

This game fails on all fronts by my estimate. It moved in an action-ee direction but totally drops the ball as an action/adventure title. The horror is there mind you, however the only thing I'm really afraid of are the enemies I can't see because my character takes up 2/3 my field of vision.

Rarely can I find little to no redeeming qualities in a game, but I find myself hard pressed to say anything good about this.

I will not be playing this game EVER again. I disagree with the majority who claimed this was a bad Resident Evil as I feel this was just a bad game in general.

It appears my Halloween treat this year will probably be Corpse Party: Book of Shadows or Costume Quest. Any other horrific suggestions are welcome.

On that note, one quick question. If I never played the very first ps1 silent hill, can I jump in on the HD collection comfortably or will I be lost?

EDIT: Also highly considering the PSP Ghosts and Ghouls remake which somehow totally flew under my radar.

Iris is nothing like the PS3 titles.  It's much more of a conventional JRPG with crafting elements on the side.  There are no time limits of any sort.

That said, though the hardcore Atelier fans were upset by the drastic changes a lot of people seemed to enjoy Iris.  It doesn't really feel much like an Atelier game, though.

Good golly how I've wished for years they would return to the Iris formula for an installment or two. I'm probably amidst the minority of Atelier fans when I say it, but I REALLY felt "Iris" was a great direction for the series. In fact, I would go so far as to say it did wonders for fostering a larger fanbase for the franchise as a whole.

I personally would not regard the Atelier name as highly as I do if it were not for Iris.

Additionally, I can credit the first Iris game as the title that made me realize crafting items and inventory could truly be F-U-N.

650  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New NIS announcements - Battle Princess Arcadia and Fencer Fairy F for NA on: September 19, 2014, 03:59:57 PM
Well, the verbosity and easy/repetitive nature of the battle system were my two biggest criticisms of the Ar Nosurge.  Shop conversations in particular I felt were as time consuming as any Atelier game, except in most of the Atelier games I find it more forgivable since there usually isn't much urgent happening.  Here I would literally spend hours in a shop crafting stuff and listening to conversations when there were supposed to be pressing things happening storywise.  Part of me just wanted to get on with it because I was interested in the main story, but the obsessive completionist in me would say not until I've crafted everything I can craft at that point in the game...

For what it's worth while the dive segments still have that other wordly quality to them at the same time they're probably a big more directly relevant to the events that are unfolding than in most AT games.  At least I thought so.

As far as the battle system goes maybe you should just read this.  Lots of neat ideas, but I felt it was poorly implemented.

Thanks for all the insights sir. My primary concern here was being lost without the narrative background of Ciel and Quoga ultimately. All shortcomings otherwise seem pretty forgivable. I'm going to reiterate my earlier statement that AT2 was a GOOD game. Good enough to have me highly interested in Ar Nosurge. It just wasn't a stellar experience for me or quite as good as the first.

As I re-read I realized this was beginning to really sound like I didn't like the series. The only leg I will say I blatantly thought was garbage was Quoga, which was a shame because visually and auditorially I was pretty enticed with that one.
651  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New NIS announcements - Battle Princess Arcadia and Fencer Fairy F for NA on: September 19, 2014, 12:57:57 AM
Well I don't know what it is you didn't like about AT2 since it was my favorite in the series, but Ar Nosurge is definitely a lot more like AT2 than AT3.  Because it isn't really anything like AT3.  In fact I would say that it has less fan service/sexual innuendo than any of the AT games.

Though one thing that's unique to Ar Nosurge is the whole...meta aspect.  Like it tries to make the player feel like they're interacting with the game universe directly rather than controlling a character in some fictional setting.  That's always kind of tricky to do and I know not everyone is going to go for it.  Personally I felt Ar Nosurge did it...OK.  Could have been worse, could have been better.  It's not really something I want to see a lot of but I guess it's kind of fun once in a while.

Thanks for the hasty response Kev, sorry it took me a day to return to the thread here. (Lots o' work)

Essentially my problems with AT2 are precisely those that Dice pointed out, however to expand a bit...

The crime within the writing and dialogue for AT2 was that not only is it longwinded in execution but 90% irrelevant to the main plot. This was my problem with Escha and Logy as well. I can happily read for the better part of an hours worth of playtime. However, if that reading is neither pertenant nor entertaining it just doesn't hold my attention.

The awesome battle system became crippled in the wake of an extremely easy difficulty. Once exploited, the gameplay became so broken that I can't say I had trouble with any adversaries up to and including the final boss. In fact, I didn't even know there was a gamebreaking glitch at the end if you didn't polish off the one boss in a few rounds because I just naturally did so.

It is totally worth noting that the soundtrack and art direction I found top notch. Those saving graces kept me happily plugging to the end. The problems I have with AT2 are personal matters based on my play-style and taste in terms of writing. Had I not broke the game and if I had a greater tolerance/appreciation for "slice of life" anime I would deem the title a real winner.

On a very superficial note, I really adored AT1's cast. The main cast of 2 was a let down by comparison for me. Once again, a completely subjective matter.

652  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New NIS announcements - Battle Princess Arcadia and Fencer Fairy F for NA on: September 17, 2014, 06:02:43 PM
I got Fairy Fencer F.  I probably won't start it till this weekend.  Not a Compile Heart fan but I'm giving them another shot cause this one looks/sounds better than their other stuff to me.

Battle Princess of Arcadias is pretty fun btw but I can understand people not liking it.  It could certainly use some polishing up but I had a good time with it.  It's more of a beat em up than an RPG.  Other than having a fantasy setting it's really not any more an RPG than Senran Kagura is.  Better than Witch and Hundred Knight imo.

While I only essentially sampled Arcadias knowing full well I wasn't going to delve in and finish it (was playing shadow hearts at the time) I loved the first 4-5 hours I played. Minus how brutal the very beginning was (Dincrests review sums up my feelings about it perfectly), I felt like they had a pretty unique gem there with Arcadia. I expected an Odin Sphere clone and what I got felt very fresh to the point of, dare I say, original.

I'm interested, but Ar Nosurge is much higher on my interest list than this, so I'll eventually get Fairy Fencer F, but I'm definitely getting Ar Nosurge next week.

Now that one I'm really torn on. Loved Ar Tonelico 1. Found AT2 to be pretty "meh". Hated 3 so much I couldn't play it (pretty rare for me). So being that I sat out on Quoga and know nothing of Ciel Nosurge I just don't know if I should/can  jump into Ar Nosurge. I'm gonna hold off and see how other people who are pretty in the dark about the series respond to it. I'm hoping the narrative works in a relatively "standalone" type fashion so I can enjoy it though because it sure does look appealing.

NOTE: I have a funny feeling Kevadu could advise as to whether I can jump in and enjoy Ar Nosurge or not *hint hint*
653  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New NIS announcements - Battle Princess Arcadia and Fencer Fairy F for NA on: September 16, 2014, 05:24:55 PM
So I'm reading/hearing some "not so terrible" impressions of Fairy Fencer F. Anybody picking this up?? I was highly considering it myself (once I finish Xillia 2) and the positive remarks I've been hearing about the soundtrack and over-all production value are swaying me.

I'm just not sure if I am ready/willing to play through another Hyperdimension title yet. LoL

What concerns me the most is the fact that I hear the game is pretty easy. Easy + turn based combat + lighthearted anime narrative = boredom for me.

Those figures are beautiful! It was really the Milla and Ludger figures that sold me on Xilla CE's and now I can clearly see I WILL NOT be able to quell my desire to procure those gems as well. I could have bought a PS4 with the amount of coin I've invested in Tales extras at this point. I've gotten good at "just saying no" to the NISA crap but Tales gets me to open my wallet every time!!!!

Double posting on account of the fact that I am speaking on an entirely different subject.

The end

Burnt the fuck out of my hand when a styrofoam coffee cup I was holding cracked and blew up.

I just healed a burn across half my neck as a result of the same thing!!! I like my coffee black and HOT HOT HOT (I microwave it after its brewed), so the burn was no joke.

You have this Ninja's sympathies sir.

"One Piece" was always something I really wanted to get into but the size of it intimidates the hell out of me.

Just decided to start "D-Gray Man" (wanted to years after learning of it) and even that intimidates me. I'm a 12-26 episode kinda guy. Despite my love of epic RPG's I have commitment issues when it comes to other media. Then again, I DID manage Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and then GT last year so I suppose I can muster the dedication when the mood strikes me.

On the D-Gay Man: So far so good. Really love the autumn/halloween appropriate tone. Not so thrilled with the dub (voice actors) but I sort of expected that.

decided to play some borderlands 2 today so as to A) not lose my interest entirely while playing xillia 2 and B) enjoy Xillia 2 all the more when I get back to it tonite/tomorrow.

I just discovered the whole "gearbox shift code" thing.

Stuff like this ^^ happens all the time. That is, I discover some interconnected community/network features or options that I never knew existed despite the many hours I've spent with a title.

It reminded how much gaming has evolved and how behind the times I am. To me gaming is still " put game in system and play" and totally forget about the fact that it has evolved to encompass so much more than I know or understand. To me DLC is still cutting edge crap. I sort of feel constantly in the dark and like I am not taking full advantage of the functionality of the hardware at my disposal.

In other news, I just realized Fairy Fencer F is right around the bend. I'm sort of torn on whether or not I'm gonna hop on board for that one. At first I was excited for it but everything I've learned about it since has seemed pretty underwhelming.

Ludger takes on a whole new personality for me when I dress him like this:

That is why I love the attachments/costumes Xillia offers so much. It really gives you a sense that your characters are far more individualized than in most JRPG's. I just wish they did a better job at keeping them on the character models instead of floating all over the freakin' place while your moving about. I personally keep putting the headphones on Leia and making them pink because I feel like it is appropriate for some reason.

Pro "dress-up" tip
-Hair Attachments/Ponytail (DLC)+ hat style hair+ glasses (any type)+ any alternate outfit= a damn near perfect formula for an entirely different MC

Got my eye on both the Ruca and Sheena costumes next! LoL

Additonally some favorites of mine at the moment
-Aviators on Alvin+ xillia 1 outfit and hair
-Angry glasses on Elize + Elles backpack + Cat hairpin + alt. color costume (the angry glasses on Elize are key!!!)

I've been a bit gloomy the last few days and trying to work out of a small rut between friends and family and some other pressures.

My BFF moved away; and as someone with only a small group of peeps I hang with, this has made me pretty damn sad.
You know how it is, it's fine and fun to have "alone time", but a whole other thing to be "lonely"; and I'm kinda scared of that.  So that's bad.

Anyways.  I've been back at the gym in full swing and feel a lot better with that going down.  A lot less self-loathing and more "Hey, I look better naked lately".  So that's good!

The thing about increasing "alone" time (I've found) is feeling lonely is just a necessary phase of a very healthy process. At this point in my life I don't view the emotion as loneliness so much as a segway into getting to know myself better. The "loneliness" if you will, is merely apprehension at the onset of having a golden opportunity to rediscover and delve further into things that I truly value.

I actually rediscovered my love of gaming and anime after being crushed by the end of a seriously relationship years ago. Thing was, I was with the girl so long I'd forgotten how much my tastes had become altered. I didn't purposely give up things I cared about for her it just naturally happened.

One of the most profound things anyone ever said to me on the subject was "Loneliness, discomfort and being ill at ease with yourself alone is just the feeling of personal progress and evolution. Don't fear it, for it marks the potential for growth."

^^ I don't know if that helps you at all Ms. Dice but it helped me a great deal. I don't like hearing people I deem awesome are sad, so I wish you well. For what its worth someone in Notheast Pennsyl-tucky here is hoping you smile :)
