I have absolutely nothing impressive to share here lately. I work, I play some video games, and sometimes I weight lift.

Sounds like a damn near perfect day to me. The days that go ART-RUN-GAMES for me without anything else are the most rewarding and productive. No dramatics or shenanigans. Just a little coin in the pocket, a measure taken for my health (to ensure I can play more games in my lifetime... I mean, why else??), and some Klyde time. Tis' the way I wish each day would play out.

I quit giving a shit about anything and ordered a 360 from Gamestop.

*Thumbs Up*

In my realm I got cold feet when it came to letting my mother move in temporarily. It went from a strict restriction of space I was imposing to a timeframe in which she had to find a place of her own... and finally I sort just laid down a flat out "this isn't such a good idea and won't work, you can crash in the garage a few nights if you must" .... I feel like a jerk but I just can't shake the feeling that it would be an unhealthy move. I wish I was saying no to someone other than my own mother in this case. I would feel far less like a prick.

My mother is an awesome lady who really dealt with hell from me earlier in my life. i just want to keep my perception of her as such and not turn our relationship into something wicked is all.

I assume this is tied to the lore of the anime bearing the same name?? If so count me in. Even if it isn't the best, it is FAR too in line with my personal tastes to ignore.
648  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FF8: Steamy Gameshark Edition on: June 22, 2014, 02:53:54 AM
I thought they added Pocket Chocobo to this.

In theory, PC version of FFVIII should be more moddable than the PSX version so... No, honestly, I've tried FFVIII fanpatches, the game still falls apart on disc 2.

I tried so hard to get the fan patches to work for VII.... epic fail. I would have been out of midgar by the time I figured out how to finally do it. And all I really wanted to do was swap the cloud and sephy character models dammit!!

I think the biggest area where this game -- like so many indie platformers -- falls apart for me is the movement physics.

this. ^^ for me too.

In particular its the jumping. Its gotten to the point where I am not even tempted by cool platformer-ee titles because everytime I find one that looks cool and is well recieved it feels "strange" to an extent of un-fun.

(Not so) recently tried Braid because of how beautiful the art direction looked.  I just could not enjoy it in the least due to the very floatiness you referenced mesh. I hate seeing what I need to do in a game but not being able to succeed due to control issues or glitchiness. Dying numerous times in Megaman doesn't bother me because its my fault. Dying because it feels as though I'm jumping in moon gravity is just a pain in my ass.

It doesn't help that I totally suck at platformers.-LoL

From personal experience I can say that things become a lot easier after everyone's out of the house.
Just some family dinner here and there.

And if your like me you can simply skip dinner. Less frequent dealings with family whom I've not had the best relationships with, only lead to a greater appreciation and tolerance for one another in my experience.

Odd we are talking family ATM. I have lived by myself, with little communication with any family, for quite some time (years). But the truth of things is that while I enjoy my solitude of my house, it is a bit much for just me.

My mother lives in what would be considered by most to be a pretty abysmal environment that does not provide her even basic comforts such as heat. She has expressed in our brief communications many times that she wanted out but has not had the means to leave. I'm considering allowing/helping her to move into half my house now to make things a bit more financially managable for me, and far more pleasant for her. While my house and garage make this completely doable without being in each others space, the prospect of it still scares the daylights out of me.

Shadow Hearts/Finished what seems to have been the first major story arc. I love how the MC looks like such a weirdo. I am also appreciating the fact that he seems more of a reckless jerk with a personal agenda than sympathetic in any sense or a do-gooder. They really do a fine job of breaking the mold a bit and leaving mountains of room for narrative development in terms of the characters thus far. I really hope this game keeps being as awesome as it has been in the first stretch.

Just beat Bastion.  Chose to save a certain somebody and move forward.  Liked the game.  Loved the music.
Also am playing Assassian's Creed:  Black Flag.  It is my first AC game but probably won't be my last.  I love pirate games.

I adored Bastion but tackled the ending post 24-hours without sleep... I had no idea what I was doing or choosing. Sort of regret that.

I also have a real affinity for Pirate stuff. How is it jumping into AC: Black Flag with no creed experience? I never played any others myself either.

You look so cool Klyde!

Like a JRPG character. :D

A girl I know always tells me I watched so much anime I turned into a character. LoL

Thanks Star, you sure know just what to say to make a Klyde smile :)

Wait I thought Klyde was like morbidly obese and bald.

Fuck how did I get THAT idea.

Two things Klyde will never have is a large belly or a bald head!!!!

It is worth noting however, that I was a very large little kid. I actually weighed considerably more at age 12 than I do now. I don't know what to make of that.

A final word.. I shaved my head once....never... EVER... again

some serious ashin' going on there.

Yes sir Yoda. That Ash you see is the result of over a decade of serious training. It was quite awhile before I was able to sport an ash of that caliber whilst puffing away and going about my business. Many blankets and shirts have been ruined in my years of Smoke-Fu training, but as you can see the results are astounding....

I was feeling kinda wonky last week for my birthday so I dyed my hair.

I actually thought it looked horrible but other people seem to like it. Go figure.

NOTE: These are action shots of me hard at work. I never draw, or do much of anything for that matter, without a cigarette. Please ignore.
654  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What's the haps? on: June 16, 2014, 06:21:34 AM

Think I might get this. Same price as getting a 250GB console loose, but I could pawn all the games it comes with for... a couple of bucks at least and offset the S&H/tax. Not that I need it but I have that GOOD OL' FASHION OCD flaring up again and dropping 200 bux on a 360 would be adequate to vent that an stop me from spending like 1.5k on a new desktop that I don't really need.

I COULD wait till closer to Christmas since there's probably gonna be a zillion BLACK FRIDAY deals going on but it looks like XBox 360Es are taking over and IDK if Es are better than the S or what.

I'd sort of prefer to buy new though, honestly, given the overheating problems for which 360s have in certain circles famous become for.

I don't know if there is any validity to this, but I'll pass the info on as it seems logical enough... I was told by a gamestop employee (whom probably didn't know his ass from his elbows) that when it comes to the XBOX models that notoriously red-ringed it was way better to buy pre-owned instead of refurbed. He said the refurbed models all had the some problems re-occur eventually.

Once again, I don't know if there is any truth to this at all but it does make sense. And for what it is worth, my pre-owned is still going strong after two years.
655  Media / Game Journals / Re: A Game Journal Reborn on: June 16, 2014, 06:16:31 AM

And contingent on me arsing myself into getting a 360... Vesperia.

My advice is not to think about it. Just do it. I got a 360 solely for Vesperia and don't regret it at all. Not only are there a few other gems but Vesperia is easily within my top 3 of this last gen.

As for my current progress....

ESCHA AND LOGY IS DONE!!!! The last year of the game was good. Not great enough to save it as a whole for me, as by that point I just wanted it to end but far more enjoyable than the first 3 years.

TERRANIGMA... Aeolus wasn't lying when he said I was about to incur tough times.... Norforest wasn't exactly hard itself but getting into the dungeon in the first place was sort of tricky. It was then onto spain. Bloody Marry was quite challenging to say the least. After dying numerous times, I'm ashamed to admit I pulled "spam the hell out of electric ring" to finally prove victorious. Awesome boss fight.

On the Terranigma note... I still am really excited to move forward with this game. Although I hate the MC, they really did a fine job of keeping each new area fresh enough to avoid a stale "lather rinse repeat" vibe. The puzzle aspect is still keeping me cognitively on my toes. I've really no objective complaints about the title thus far with the exception of the fixed attack angle of N-S-E-W getting on my nerves at times. A wide ranged hit box to accomodate a "swinging" type attack of some nature would have helped gameplay immensely IMO.

SHADOW HEARTS. Just started. About 10 hours in. Totally in love. The writing here is so unique. Very compelling albeit longwinded at points. But with everything as pertinent/entertaining as this title is proving to be I can deal with 20-30 minute intervals of mostly all reading. Too early to say much more but first impressions are strong with this one. I just finished up all the events with Li Li and am on my way to Shanghai where it appears I am walking into one (if not more then one) trap/set up/baaaaaad situation.

Whats the haps!? THE HAPS??? Well, after becoming substantially bummed out I don't have the bucks to move into the next gen of gaming yet after all the lovely news this week I dyed my hair finished a cool tattoo.

Say hello to SIGMA!!!

This was a REAL long time in the making. Very happy to have finished it.... Scythe will added in coming sessions. Vile is next. This dude loves him some Megaman X.
657  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: June 15, 2014, 02:48:14 AM

Essentially, DDS and Nocturne are straight cosmic horror done very well, while Shadow Hearts is a cosmic horror that eventually develops a bizarre and insane sense of humor. There's nothing else quite like it.

I had to return to this thread to re-quote you, Sir Zen, from a little over a month ago to appropriately (and publicly) thank you (as well as the community members who chimed in) SOOO much for the suggestion of Shadow Hearts.

I got to it finally last week and put in a solid 10 hours or so and I freakin' adore it.

The reason I found it appropriate to bring up here is because I am pretty floored by how much it reminds of an SMT game. I can't honestly say I've never played anything that felt so similar to Persona/SMT without it actually being a part of the franchise.

That is all. Carry on.

I was in the mood for something different anyway.

Seems to be the air good sir.

NOTE: See my aforementioned ramblings above ^^

Actually I've had the taste for something different for a few months now... The last few years of NIS titles wore me down.LoL
659  Media / Game Journals / Re: A Game Journal Reborn on: June 03, 2014, 09:14:00 PM
Man, I wasn't close to beating Escha and Logy at all. I put in 3 solid nights in a row and it looks like I've still got a bit more to do. I even skipped my retro gaming weekend in an effort to beat E and L. The last year/assignment threw my guesstimation of game length off. I feel like what I percieved to be the end of this game has lasted long enough to actually be more like final 1/3 or last 1/4 of the game. The upside is, at least the last year of Escha and Logy is leagues more fun than the rest of the title proved. Too little too late to save it in my book, but a wee bit refreshing none the less.

I am NOT beating myself up with the ending of this game on account of the fact that it is my birthday as of midnight tonite. As such I want a new game to sink my teeth into.

As mentioned, I tried Dark Souls last week but that did NOT fit the bill.

I was going to move on to Lost Odyssey after Escha and Logy but now I'm thinking Shadow Hearts might be a stronger option. Essentially I'm looking for something mature and just a bit different than I am used to. Although my knowledge of these titles extends only to what I've been told by the community here, I feel like Shadow Hearts may be a little less conventional a title than Lost Odyssey and more of what I'm hoping to find at the moment.

Additionally on the bithday gaming agenda I have Red Dead Redemption on deck. Suggested by Dice, I am fairly certain I'm gonna really love this one. My second favorite theme/timeframe/setting is the wild west due to a strange obsession I had with Doc Holiday when I was a kid.

EDIT: Mind you, in spite of my best intentions, I may still (as a creature of habbit and compulsion) feel the inherent need to polish off escha and logy before touching anything else anyhow. I hope I'm strong enough to do otherwise.... but if the past has taught me anything about myself it is that I am a victim of self-punishing tendencies that run deep enough to disrupt both personal desire and better judgement. LoL

Ham Sandwich retrospective

I appreciate all of the sandwiches commonly offered by delis, but like a good number of sandwich fans I only knew about ham sandwiches from more complex offerings but when I discovered that there were other sandwiches I had to try them out, I did not know that I would embrace ham and turkey sandwiches and they became some of my favorite sandwiches of all time... This is a video on the basic ham sandwich.

And holy shit was that ever a run-on sentence.

No matter how I feel about pastrami on rye (I don't hate it...it's just my least favorite sandwich...that does not mean it's bad, though), I have to thank delis everywhere because if it were not for pastrami on rye I would never have discovered the basic ham sandwich.

Which is kind of weird when you think about it.

And reubens are friggin awesome.  Visit my youtube channel.

Ew, ham sandwiches.

Peanut Butter+Banana is clearly the best option in all situations.

You good sir are quite insane. The ham sandwich is the greatest sandwich in existence! Combining ham and swiss cheese is one the greatest inventions that mankind has ever made! To deny that is to deny the very essence of humanity! As such, you are clearly a lizard person as no one else would dare to deny their humanity to such an extent.

Paint me as crazy as Cyril... Peanut butter + (insert anything) = the best

However, I will say, in all my wisdom and experience on the matter... to truly level up your Peanut Butter sandwich, you must slice a donut in half instead of using bread.  Consider adding a scoop or two of ice cream to really kill it.

Fallout....???? Whats that?
