Well this collectors is selling fast...

Already sold out on Bandai Namco store.

If anyone aside from me wants to be a sucker and pick this up, Amazon and Gamestop still have/had it available as of an hour ago.

http://gematsu.com/2013/10/tales-of-symphonia-chronicles-collectors-edition-announced

Symphonia Chronicles CE announced. Don't know if it'll make it to PALand but for $100 (+tax) big ones you'll get a game, an expensive coaster, five figurines, a soundtrack CD, a fix-fic manga, and a nice box.

Unfortunately, the Xillia CE was only just ever so barely worth it to begin with for me, there's no way in hell am I getting this. Symphonia was a good game and all, but a) I already have a copy on the GCN, b) none of the feelies are that worth it (well okay, the soundtrack might be, but Symphonia's character designs were more miss than hit to me, and FtNW's designs can go die in a fire for all I care), and c) I can't imagine them fixing From the New World to the point of becoming worth playing.

Fancy box just takes up too much space (and while UFOTable are a great animation studio, their "style" is kinda superficial to me).
Figures?  Cute, but after a month: Duct-collectors
OST: If they redid the soundtrack then maybe

I guess I'm curious about the novel, but nothing more than that.  Yeah, I'm probably sitting out of this CE.

This is made worse if the game by itself is going for that "HD Price Tag" of $40-50.  I really, reallly don't wanna pay an extra $50+ for some assorted goodies.

You guys sure know how to make a Klyde feel like a real sucker for opening my wallet for all these trinkets...

@Dice- I know they only collect dust! BUT NOTHING WEARS DUST BETTER, or looks more adorable in spite of being adorned in it... THEN A COLLECTORS EDITION FIGURINE DAMMIT!!!
648  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nippon Ichi's Project: D "Disgaea D2" on: October 14, 2013, 02:54:50 PM
Sorry to double post, but I can't contain myself.

After beating Kingdom Hearts 1.5 last night I got to crack open my D2 LE and get to it!

First impressions are super-positive. The dub is spectacular, the game mechanics feel much more coherent and cohesive than in recent Disgaea installments and character creation completely rocks in this title. I am particularly fond of the ability to now select alternate color schemes for characters.

I really can't imagine a Disgaea fan wanting more. I may only have a few hours with it thus far but this game screams quality from the door IMO.

How strange... I just beat KH final mix last night and now this.  Pretty stoked about this announcement seeing as how the main appeal of getting through KH for me was because about of how much better everyone claimed 2 was. Klyde will be ready... bring on the Disney, baby!!!!

Pretty cool to see an HD collection/remake get such a fancy collectors edition if you ask me. The claims of only 15000 units will being available makes this a "pick up a second and keep it in the shrinkwrap" level CE if you ask me!
651  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: The favorite Disney TV cartoons thread on: October 12, 2013, 06:50:25 PM
Well I just decided to check out Walt Disney's classic cartoon "The adventures of Mr. Toad and Ichabod Crane" because it came highly suggested to me.

The verdict?... Freakin' terrible man!! When the exception of the mildly entertaining "manic-ness" of Mr. Toad I found the hour and 8 minutes of viewing an utter bore.

Just wanted to post this in case anyone stumbled across it in the future and was hoping for some vintage headless horseman animation (as I was hoping...) because this will surely not meet your expectations. The headless horseman segment accounts for about 5 minutes of the total film.

Now if your into the whole "lets sing and frolic in a looney tunes type of way" sort of stuff then by all means check this out.

My big screen in my living room is typically on the "PC" setting. I also typically leave my computer on RPGFan and as such, I have been coming home to this "green" staring back at me when I come through the front door for years now.

It is comforting.

I don't know how easily I would adjust to a new color...

As an aside, I will say that I recall when I first stumbled across RPGFan many moons ago, I was horribly turned off by the forum color scheme initially. Now I feel its appropriate for our community. Something about it translates "substance over aesthetic" in my eyes now.... like a well aged 16-bit RPG... Ok, thats enough. I have officially thought too hard and analytically about our color scheme...

ohhhhhh boy.... My collectors edition just came in the mail and I'm still not through with Kingdom Hearts. I am loving Kingdom Hearts ATM (currently at hollow bastion) but Disgaea is my FAVORITE franchise.

This is reeeeealllly gonna require some discipline folks...

And no. There is no playing both at once. If I pop Disgaea in I will never see Kingdom Hearts again. The real tragedy would be that I would enjoy Disgaea far less with KH weighing on my mind.

The only way out is through...
By any chance, are you looking to get the next Pokémon game in three days? That'd be much worse.

This is why I don't stick with two different video game companies.

Nah, earlier this year I finally discovered that no matter how great a game is I simply can't enjoy handheld consoles. Not with amount of home-console-crappola I've accumulated over the years. One must prioritize I suppose..
654  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy VI enhanced remake coming to IOS/Android this Winter on: October 09, 2013, 04:58:55 PM
Oh good God my greatest fears are coming true!!

I knew it was gonna happen eventually... but to finally see the only re-release/remaster I've truly waited years for hitting nothing but IOS and Android, well its abysmal.

I tried to prepare myself for this, as I knew it was inevitable, but it still hurts.

This got a pretty negative review here but I'm enjoying it just fine :D

I got more laughs out of the first chapter than the entirety of Disgaea 4.  So glad to have the original trio back.  New apprentice system is great.  "Mounting" doesn't seem terribly useful but there's no turn limit like magicchange so that's cool.  The first mounted prinny skill is the best

I am DYING to play this!!!.... but I have to polish off kingdom hearts first in order to devote myself to it properly.

Without even playing it though, I can see where a disgaea game can either leave a stellar impression or a pitiful one. Nippon Ichi clearly caters to the same crowd time and again with Disgaea (or at least they try to). That is giving some fans exactly what they want, while leaving others... well.. wanting. And they certainly have not been too concerned with widening the appeal of the franchise to a broader demographic. I love seeing progressive and inventive measures being taken with games but when it comes to disgaea I will gladly take more of the same.

Grim- I think we ALL had that "weeaboo/wapanese" phase of "everything Japanese is superior/ I wish I was Japanese" and all that nonsense.  I'm glad I grew out of that nonsense.

I am almost thirty years old and just growing out of that phase... or at least I am entertaining the idea of growing out of that phase as a result of playing kingdom hearts...
658  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Halloweeny Stuff on: October 08, 2013, 04:40:39 PM
This thread has proved really informative to me. I have Future Diary and Ghost Stories on deck now. I actually already had both and for some reason was going to begrudgingly watch "Is this a Zombie?" even though I really wasn't too enticed by it... completely forgot about Future Diary and Ghost Stories...

But the real reason I'm posting is the simpsons. Very entertaining. I have not watched any regular eps yet but I am totally enjoying the Treehouse of Horror Specials.

not "Halloweeny" but definately horror, I love John Carpenters The Thing

Your like the 19th individual to bring that movie up to me this week.... i think that is a sign....

For anime there are

100 Stories aka Requiem for the Darkness (It's only 13 episodes and I really liked it)
Devil Man
Demon City Shinjuku
Vampire Hunter D (two movies)
Wicked City

For movies, I always like more monstery stuff

Dagon
Event Horizon
Re-Animator
The Fly
The Fog
The Mist
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

If you've never seen it, you could check out the old Masters of Horror series that was done with different famous horror directors. As I recall, some episodes were very good.

Never saw Demon City, Dagon or Re-Animator. Thanks for the tips. While I think my viewing budget for the season is well spent at this point, those suggestions are totally going in my back pocket for the future!!
659  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Wind Waker U on: October 07, 2013, 03:46:13 PM
This is a game that is making me want to buy a Wii U. It's my favorite Zelda and it sounds like they totally improved the sailing.

Yes sir, it was this coupled with the prospect of playing another Xeno title that put me over the edge. Like I said a few posts earlier, Nintendo nailed it this time IMO as far as hardware is concerned. I really hope the library of the Wii U doesn't prove as largely disappointing to me as that of Nintendo's more recent home consoles.

Regardless though, if you don't have a Wii you can still look at Xenoblade, Last Story and a few other choice titles from the last gen as reason enough to spring for a Wii U now. I personally can't wait to give Last Story and Pandora's Tower a go in HD. I actually held off playing some of the Wii games in my collection on purpose so I can experience them for the first time via the Wii U.

Ya know what? I'm an idiot. Sometimes I forget that I am a bit older, and at a different time in my life, than probably most people on here. I think back just 10 years and I know I was spending a bit of money on things that I wouldn't even consider doing nowadays. I think back 15 years and MAN was I ever dropping cash on silly things, not even thinking about the future. Things like marriage, children, a home, medical bills, and a ton of other priorities, tend to make you re-think where the money goes. Spending $500 on a plumber to re-build your shower is a bit more important than buying video games and associated merchandise.
The point is that I apologize. I did it, too. I still do it on rare occasions, but it goes to my garden over games. Carry on.

I couldn't agree more actually.

I'm not exactly "old" yet, but by no means young either. The responsibilities of adulthood seem to creep in, whether we like it or not and supporting an exorbitant gaming habbit has to be a calculated move and priority the older you get it seems...

I am a home owner, in business for myself as a professional artist. I have a host of health problems that cost me a fortune as well. My house is well maintained, I make sure to continue to grow and expand my business and then I tend to my health. But once those bases are covered any extra I've got goes into gaming and j-pop culture. I have planned gaming into my life agenda so to speak. There was a point in time when I completely abandoned being a gaming and j-pop enthusiast in pursuit of companionship and other things I deemed important at the time. I eventually came to realize that I'm happier entertaining my sick gaming obsession and it proves far more condusive to being creative and allocating ample energy to my career than anything else.

In all honesty, beyond my career, home and health I couldn't imagine squeezing in anything else other than gaming. So I certainly see where you are coming from Grim... If I did choose to incorporate "family" and "garden" in my life, NISA's next limited edition lunch-box set and guide book would have to take a backseat.

Whats the moral of the story? I think it is completely irrational to spend what I do on gaming. Thing is I know what I like. And I am happy sacrificing other things to methodically plan the incorporation of my hobby. I venture to guess I am not the only adult who prioritizes there life in a similar fashion.

Case and point (to summarize). My shoes are 5 years old and the Sephiroth statue in my living room literally cost as much as the vehicle I drive. However, I did not buy that statue until my bills were paid and I was booked well in advance for tattoo work to keep me fed whilst maintaining the monthly bill I incur as a result of health. That way I can look happily at that statue every day without regret. This is where priorities come in.... and yes as an adult I know mine are screwed up.
