901  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nippon Ichi's Project: D "Disgaea D2" on: July 11, 2013, 03:10:31 PM
I'm torn on which LE to get. I haven't looked at a strategy guide outside of gamefaqs since the PSX era and don't know what to expect really. Would grabbing the big LE with the guide prove useful for post game content? I wouldn't crack it open (the guide) until I hit post game for fear of spoilers but I do feel having a guide for this sort of title might be worth it.

Any opinions on guides from folks who are not sick of Disgaea? Hell, with dwindling interest noted, I'd appreciate the offered perspectives of those who aren't terribly stoked about the game as well.

I just really don't know what published guides even cover and I heard some real lousy feedback about the bradygames guide for disgaea 4 being horribly incomplete.

Lets face it, there is a spectrum of content that can qualify as "mature" or "adult". Take films with R ratings for instance. There is world of difference between an R-rated skinimax flick and say the Matrix Reloaded. Games are no different. I think RPGfan is simply exercising their right of content control on the site, in regard to the games they cover here as responsibly and tasefully as they could.

Now, with that said, I am sure there is a decent plot somewhere amongst the sea of soft-core porn flicks that propell said title into the realm of something "greater" or more "substantial" than most other similar films. However that does not mean it is going to be, nor should it be, reviewed and covered by the same critics who are looking at the Matrix Reloaded.

Ok... so my film example sucked... but you get the point.

That monkey is too cute. :O

I need it.

I don't want to talk about how much money it took to win that monkey. I'm sure I could have bought something much cuter :/

Klyde... you look like an actor but I can't quite get my finger on who.
Crispin Glover.

Haha! That is a new one!! With alarming frequency people who come into the tattoo shop think a portrait I did of Kurt Cobain is actually a self portrait (oddly enough I'm the same height and weight as Kurt was as well) but generally anyone old enough to have witnessed a young cory feldman finds me to be the spitting image. I see the cory, not so much the Kurt... That glover gentlemen looks like what I could have looked like if my body matured beyond that of a 16 year old boy-LoL

I just want to be Klyde damnit!!

YES! haha

but a more anime version of. ...

(hey... Klyde has been using less ellipses... I hope he's okie...)

Yea, I've been trying to curb the ellipses. They lose their power with over-use. Best kept reserved for when the time is right.

The frustration can't be described...

I submit 100's of names... no... it was definately 4 digits worth...

And the winners suck by the way.... In fact, even if they were decent names, my seething malice would prevent me from even noticing at this point.

SCREW YOU NIPPON ICHI!!! SCREW YOU!!!.... now take my money and give me that slick LE please :)

Honestly, that is why I buy consoles at Gamestop. Spend an extra $50 for their 2-year extended warranty, then when the system upgrades, claim the thing "broke" and trade it in for the newer model or a limited edition model.

That is the reason I buy my consoles there as well. Can't beat that policy, no-sir!

So I decided tonite I would go check out a local little carnival. I haven't been to one since I was a little kid and figured "what the hell....."

What a freakin MONEY PIT!!!! 40 bucks and an hour later I'm nauseated from the rides, agrivated by the little parent-less brats that continued to cut in front of me in line for said rides... and worst of all... the only thing I won was this monkey....

At least there's that pretty girl in the last two photos. Probably made the trip worth it :)

Haha! That "pretty girl" was my best friend from the sandbox and on... She was like a sister to me until I went off the deep end by the time I hit my twenties and lost touch with everyone I knew growing up. And yes, getting to see her again was, by far, the highlight of my evening.

@Klyde I gotta say...you had a very sucky class if your reunion was in single digits and held in what looks like a cafe. I shouldn't talk, I left highschool to get my GED when I realized I hated everyone there.

Yea, it was "humble" to say the least... but I still enjoyed myself :) First night I wasn't drawing or tattooing in... well... years-LoL

Well animating my retro-gaming weekend routine went well. Last week I stated I was torn between Dragon Quest VI and Mother 3, though leaning toward Dragon Quest..... I sampled both and quickly changed my mind. The weirdness of Mother totally sucked me in. Made my way through chapter 1. While I love it thus far I'm having a really rough time with the multi-hit mechanic in battle.

Returned to Atelier Ayesha last night/this morning. I just won the second treasure trove contest! Yipee!! I was REAL bothered that I lost the first.... I didn't notice the little meter in the corner that predicts the outcome while selecting items for the contest damnit...

See Klyde attend his 10 year high school reunion with an incredible single digit turn-out!

NOTE TO SELF: I look like a goof with my hair tied back.... well I look like a goof with it down too... *sigh*

So my old man was at a local (2 miles away?) Gamestop and checked in about a preorder for ps4, which I'm sure a few of you recall being mentioned that gamestop was taking unlimited preorders a couple weeks back. Skip ahead to today where my local failstop tells my dad they sold out 3 days after it was announced...unlimited right?

Checked online and sure enough gamestop stopped doing it apparently today...god I'm pissed now.

That is grim news indeed.... I guess I'll be calling around too seeing as how I erroneously put bucks on the side to pre-order it and pay it off but didn't get around to actually going to the store to do it yet.

Non-gaming news (in Klydes realm)... I just attended my 10-year high school reunion. I was stoked about getting invited seeing as how I dropped out a few weeks before graduation and really was not expecting to be included. Getting to be a "part of" aside, I love anything with nostalgic value (even though high school was excruciating for me). A whopping total of 8 people showed up. See the blurry and terrible awesome pics in the photo thread!

ar tonelico is more enjoyable than the atelier series if the player hates alchemy, but! > the alchemy is in fact so good that it could inspire a player to get into an entire series focused on this crafting system they were just exposed to.

Is this accurate?

That is more or less what proved to be true for me although I would be hesitant to suggest superiority of the AT games to the Altelier franchise, AT is however a distinctly different "flavor" if you will. A flavor you may have a greater taste for if more traditional JRPGs (particularly in regard to plot and characters) is what you are used to/seeking.

In my case however it was Ar Tonelico NOT Ar Tonelico 2 that converted me. I state this specifically because I thoroughly enjoyed AT more than its sequel. I will say AT 2 did have a cool and addicting battle system... however even that got stale in the wake of how easily broken the game became as I progressed.

The cuteness is too much.... these must be on my shelf....maybe two sets, one for shelf at home and one for the tattoo room-LoL
913  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Happy 4th of July!!! on: July 04, 2013, 03:24:24 PM
Something about this holiday makes me feel funny... I can't explain it... but it has never felt like a legitimate holiday to me really. It has always somehow left me some generic or cheesy impression of some stupid american excuse to drink beer and watch fireworks, long before it becomes an iconic day to celebrate patriotism in any sense.

All the same though, tis a fine opportunity to wish you all a lovely day :)
914  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The NEW Game Journal on: July 04, 2013, 02:31:52 PM

I have to chime in with the "I am bad at Street Fighter" crew; so am I.

Sign me up to the club... fighting games in general are not my forte. Although I erroneously get sucked into to trying them out a few times a year only to frustrate myself to no end.

Atelier Ayesha- I am addicted to crafting to the point where it has taken precedence over advancing the story for me. The ease with which you can finish little tasks and goals makes this title feel like every sit-down with it is a highly rewarding for me. Loving it.

I will however be animating my "retro gaming weekend" routine starting this week. Deliberating between "Mother 3" and "Dragon Quest 6". I have no experience with either. The draw of Mother 3 for me is the fact that I loved earthbound. Dragon Quest 6, on the other hand, would be my first experience with the dragon quest franchise (something I've been meaning to get to for years). Leaning toward Dragon Quest right now on account of being in the mood for some classic Akira Toriyama crafted characters and whatnot.

So I called a mulligan for my birthday this year. Considering I started traveling to work yesterday at 7:30am and got home after 12:00am this morning, my day was a bust. Everyone gets a mulligan for their birthday one time, right?

Don't worry my friend, I used my token "mulligan" this year too... I was sick, and my back was still broke so I spent my b-day laid up til 9pm when I decided it was too depressing to be so idle. So (painfully) at that point I went out to the only store I could find open and played scratch off lottery tickets to celebrate until I was broke...

Birthday RE-DO! (A few weeks later)... New tattoo over my entire stomach to cover something that REALLY bothered me badly... Followed by the purchase or some old Bandai Model Kits that were dripping with nostalgia for me... followed by a week off of work to heal my stomach without a hitch.

Using my "mulligan" kicked ass! I wish you the best! Use your "re-do" wisely sir... and I say if it still doesn't work out... DO IT AGAIN!!!! LoL (hey, if we don't give ourselves special treatment here and there who the hell else is gonna do it?)

I just quoted Eusis on Neogaf. It makes me wonder who else has the same username there.
I've seen Eusis and cj_iwakura up to now.

I'm signed up damn-near everywhere as either Klyde Chroma, Klyded, or Triscal Goddess (don't ask...). But I only post here. I lurk everywhere else.

At Anime Expo.  Day 0 just ended and I'm already exhausted just from running around doing unofficial events.  Is that a good or bad sign...

Never been to an anime convention/show of any nature... tis a life goal of mine. I always plan on vacations or trips but I am booked up for tattoos for months in advance and typically, by the time I learn of an event taking place I wish to attend, my time is already accounted for.

I wanna go cosplay as some little anime chick. My hairdresser always tells me I'd make an attractive little anime girl-LoL
