181  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The sports thread- 2012 edition on: August 01, 2012, 06:16:03 PM
Just having the Olympics on in the background - so far I mostly tune in if its (1) a Canadian (2) something that is a bit more interesting to me like gymnastics or medal rounds.

Sports I watch:
- Hockey, Go Canucks Go!
or at least don't choke... please...?
Sports I do:
In my early 20s I was good at Tae Kwon Do and got a third place medal in sparring at a province-wide tournament. Unfortunately, my back was really messed up when someone rear-ended my car at 50km/m (yeah, cause your cell phone was more important than seeing a car stopped at a red light) and between that an a tweaked wrist, I wasn't able to get back into it regularly without putting my back out.

So what I do is more date things with my husband for fun - bowling, pitch&putt golf, skating, biking. Nothing regularly.

I have the non-HD too. On such a small screen, does it really make that big of a difference? The graphics were still beautiful.

The review link doesn't work for me:

Original Sound Version

Its a very easy, charming FF. I blew through it in one weekend (and that's with sleep, food, etc), whereas FFIV took me months.

The music is really catch though. I still have tunes in my head.

I chose safe job (bank manager) over dream job (artist/potter).

There was just no way I was ever going to make enough to feel secure in my dream job. I am very good at pottery, even sold out some shows in galleries when I was younger, but I can't see myself being famous enough to be one of the few who command top dollar. At least painters can produce cards and prints; its harder to sell "duplicates" of sculptures and the like.

The Bank was the only place willing to hire a deaf person after 2 years of looking when I was young. It turned out that I am very very good at boring bank stuff. My safe job is boring, but I work normal hours, can enjoy my video games and pottery after work and on weekends and make enough to support my hobbies.

I have no kids and no intention of having any so I am able to squirrel away enough money to hopefully retire a bit earlier than 65 - maybe then I'll do my "dream job"  ;-)

Already pre-ordered and hoping that this is more enjoyable that Gungnir was.

I figure out how much I need each month and then set up standing orders at the bank to transfer a set amount of money each month from my chequing into a savings account. Out of sight, out of mind....

Because now that they're not in front of a camera, they can get away with it?

Little late to the weather gripe, but Vancouver Canada just got its first few sunny days in god knows how long. June usually gets 200+ hours of sunshine and we had approx 70 this year. Otherwise it was rain rain rain grey clouds clouds clouds. I was seriously getting tired of wearing my winter clothes in June!

Ahhhh... finally can wear shorts and cute tops. Played golf and enjoyed the sun. Can open windows and get fresh air flowing through.

Not sure what stage I stopped at, probably around the same time (in a northern snowy region). It just got tedious.

Oh cool, that's nice. I thought it was strange that it was nigh impossible to get 4000 without multiplayer. I have 3700 or so. :)

Ha ha, I thought it was strange to see Kai Leng trolling you. Before he was more professional and then he's doing that to make it personal? Why?

Is there any point in my getting 4000+ military readiness for the new endings or do all I get is one little image at the end again?

I am pretty much trying to do everything but it is almost effing impossible to get 4000 if you don't play online since your score is cut to 50%.

Mmm.... yesterday made a ham roasted with a port glaze and icewine to drink.

Its Canada Day but I did not feel like making Poutine.

Nocturne - No, you don't save the world; the world is destroyed in the first 10 minutes.

For FFVI, maybe not as overpowered as Genji--Glove/Offering but having Merton + everyone equipped with a Fire Shield or equivalent = enemies getting firestormed and you getting massive healing :D

Also for the same game, careful Esper management to ensure that your mages get every level up with Magic state increases and your chosen fighters the Strength increase. End result, absurdly powerful mages and attackers in short order.

FFVIII - Play cards. Get Quetzal's ability to change cards into items early (ie, before you become a graduated SEED). Turn cards into stat-boosting spells much earlier in the game than normally can be obtained. Cakewalk anything despite their level-matching.
