181  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Agarest Wars 2..A thread about the game and NOT the fanservice this time.... on: September 01, 2012, 11:44:51 AM
Ah, derp. I saw some Agarest games at my local game shop and picked up what I thought was Agarest Wars 2. It was Zero. And it was.... underwhelming.

Anyone have a game script? The cutscenes don't seem to be captioned and my hearing isn't good enough to make out the voice acting :(

Do you have headphones?
You could use some and turn up the volume really high, though someone appears to have started uploading them to youtube, you could probably hear them easily with computer volume turned way up:

No, its not so much volume - I simply cannot hear enough frequencies to make speech understandable without captions or lip-reading. Can't hear on a phone either for that matter :p
183  Site Related & More / RPGFan: The Site / Release dates? on: August 23, 2012, 01:52:32 PM
I am just wondering if the release dates are supposed to be updated or if there is a bug... For me, I see:

Last Updated: 02/01/2012 @ 01:47 AM EST

Recently Released:
Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
Zenonia 4 (iOS)
Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights (3DS)
Chrono Trigger (iOS)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3/Xbox 360/PC)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

 Upcoming Releases:
Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3/Xbox 360)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PS3/Xbox 360/PC)
Tales of the Abyss (3DS)
SMT: Devil Survivor 2 (DS)
Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 (PS3)

I see some newer games in the individual consoles' release date section but not all of them... Also, some old stuff is in there too - that have already been released.

Maybe simply good music instead of half-arsed music  :D

I think I had something similar with Necron except it was Quina standing and Zidane was beserked. I hate status effects :(

I would suggest trying:

The World Ends With You - Has all of your requirements. It is a weird game that requires a lot of use of the touch controls and takes place in modern day Tokyo.

Legend of Heroes, Trails in the Sky - has three of your requirements and is an amazing RPG in itself. It is a fantasy RPG. Music isn't J-Pop but it is enjoyable.

Radiant Historia - three of your requirements. AMAZING RPG, definately worth a try if you can get it still. Doesn't do J-Pop tho.

First FF was one of my first console games too. I got the SNES for Christmas, played Super Mario world and Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past. The first game I chose myself was FF4 which I rented, then bought because it just captivated me. I played through that obsessively and pretty much did everything possible.

I ran out to look for the next FF and got FF: Mystic Quest which was the only other FF for the SNES at the time. It was also fun but very disappointing after the massive game that was FF4 - I was finished it in a weekend!

FFVI came out a year or so later and I was gleeful to play that. I ended up carefully managing my Espers so that Terra and Celes got magic stats levelled up every level, so by the end of the game, they were magic wielding monsters. I did the same with Locke and Setzer and ended up with a party that could wipe bosses in one turn.

I dithered on getting FF7 because the Playstation was expensive. Eventually I rented a PS and FF7 and one of the two was broken - it wouldn't go past the train scene. They didn't have any other copies so I kinda stewed over getting the PS for a long time. I finally got it, but the train scene made me nervous every time I started a play through. I still kinda expect it to get stuck there! I also remember fighting Emerald Weapon and accidently having Yuffie's Materia giving her 7777 HP. She pretty much soloed Emmy for hours (she was only doing 1000 points of damage a turn). Weirded win ever.

Eight and Nine were enjoyable but my favorite is FFX.

Wow, such a glowing review! I am surprised, I was figuring something middling considered a few of us just got bored with the game.
190  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Xenoblade or Final Fantasy 12.. what's your preference? on: August 06, 2012, 12:27:19 PM
Xenoblade by a long long long distance. I ENJOYED it so much more. FFXII was boring. Xenoblade had amazing settings, characters (granted, FFXII looked better graphically), story, fun quests and exploration, and engaging battle. I barely slogged through FFXII. I played through Xenoblade twice and enjoyed the whole ride.

Ah, the big update is here!

Ooh, extended ending came with a free soundtrack? *scurries off to download* Thank you!!!

Well, its nicer than seeing the USA-centric channels. Ok Phelps, whatever, haven't we seen enough? There ARE other athletes and events I'd like to see. I like to see how the Canadians are doing, even if its "just" bronze. And of course whatever the Canadians are losing at, we still see plenty of "winner" footage.

193  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The sports thread- 2012 edition on: August 01, 2012, 06:16:03 PM
Just having the Olympics on in the background - so far I mostly tune in if its (1) a Canadian (2) something that is a bit more interesting to me like gymnastics or medal rounds.

Sports I watch:
- Hockey, Go Canucks Go!
or at least don't choke... please...?
Sports I do:
In my early 20s I was good at Tae Kwon Do and got a third place medal in sparring at a province-wide tournament. Unfortunately, my back was really messed up when someone rear-ended my car at 50km/m (yeah, cause your cell phone was more important than seeing a car stopped at a red light) and between that an a tweaked wrist, I wasn't able to get back into it regularly without putting my back out.

So what I do is more date things with my husband for fun - bowling, pitch&putt golf, skating, biking. Nothing regularly.
194  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Chaos Rings, HD or no HD? on: August 01, 2012, 06:10:49 PM
I have the non-HD too. On such a small screen, does it really make that big of a difference? The graphics were still beautiful.
