16  Media / Game Journals / Re: A Game Journal Reborn on: July 13, 2015, 06:59:24 AM
Finally stopped playing Story of Seasons. Ended up with 160 hours. I pretty much had beaten it two weeks ago but my completionist mind would not let me stop playing. Did not get 100% (because that take 30 in game years), but I am content with what I ended up with. Kind of wish I could have triggered Licorice's reverse proposal, but 150 gifts at 1 a day is too much. x_x

Started Lord of Magna last night. Only got through the first battle before going to bed. I'm not particularly excited about the game so far, but it should be good enough for the moment.

The reason why there's no DVD of Gargoyles S3 is because there is no S3 of Gargoyles. Even the series creator has gone on record to state that there is no third season.

As for what's been happening with ReBoot, that's had an online comic that was pretty unsatisfactory (it started on the same note that Season 3 almost ended on, doom and gloom everywhere, with Megabyte running the show again, only this time its because Bob was too busy sitting on his hands like a Gundam style pacifist instead of being lost in space, which lasts up until Megabyte crossed some kind of arbitrary line which set Bob off like, again, a Gundam styled pacifist, though his Gundam style pacifistic Beam Spam Rampage got cut drastically short due to a shady cult popping up out of nowhere and instantly subduing all the viruses) and at least two announced attempts at making a movie follow up that I have yet to hear any follow up on. So yeah, I'm not expecting much.
Just because it was bad doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And the Reboot "sequel" is going to be about kids who discover they are the next generation of Guardians in the network, not a conclusion to series. Basically it sounds more Code Lyoko than Reboot. I already expect it to be horrible.

As for the the topic at hand, ReBoot. There's a show that's now impossible to resolve in a satisfying manner (rip Tony Jay).

I'm also still waiting for the actual third season of Gargoyles (unless I'm miscounting and there was only the one season).

Speaking of Reboot, it is getting a sequel series...which is going to have scenes using CGI and scenes using real life actors.

There was a third season of Gargoyles. Unfortunately (?) it is not available on DVD and for w/e reason it seems unlikely we will be getting season 3 on DVD anytime soon. Then again it took nearly 8 years for the second half of season 2 to end up on DVD, so who knows. *shrug* I'm not sure if I ever saw anything in season 3 or not personally as it changed channels and writing teams between seasons.

What we really know about the events are the events that happened in the timeline that leads up to VLR.

In other words, the scenario in Zero Escape 3 may swap expected players with people we wouldn't expect. In other words:

Code:
this allows for Alice and/or Clover to enter the game. But it might also allow them to pull out Junpei/Tenmyouji etc

Code:
Well yes we only know the events of a single timeline. However, assuming multiple endings exist within the game, one of the timelines present in the game should result in the VLR timeline as that is essentially the "natural" course of events. Based on what June says in the ending sequence, the implication appears to be that Sigma and Phi, with their abilities, are incapable of preventing the disaster. On their own they are only able to maintain the status quo that we see in VLR. So that path should be obtainable in ZE3 and will probably be necessary to complete in order for '?' to find out what keeps going wrong in the time loop before it can be fixed. Heck June basically outright says, if I spoil you on the events of the third game then you'll never play it, implying it will be answered there. XP

So I don't think there will be anything significant like the 9 people at the Mars Test Site being changed from whoever they were in the VLR timeline. The original timeline will likely be quite possible to achieve, although I'm uncertain as to whether it will be the first timeline you can complete or the second to last. Should be one of those two though.

Edit:
Code:
Random thought. In one of the comments on ZE3 from before the announcement, it was mentioned that the nonary game (and 9 characters?) would be split across 3 locations. Perhaps in addition to jumping timelines this time we also jump characters? So at the Mars Test Site we control Sigma, at NASA or w/e we control Junpei, and in a third unknown location we control K controlling the body of '?'. Just a random thought as to why Sigma and Phi aren't able to get to the better future on their own, they need to either get info or control events beyond just the Mars Test Site. We know that '?' is able to communicate with K, and since '?' is implied to be the actual player in the series, '?' likely had contact with Junpei during 999. Plus Junpei is likely the fourth or fifth most powerful esper in the series.

Hmm was just going through the wiki. I now want to replay both of the games before the third game comes out. Also in reviewing the wiki, I am reminded that we basically know half the cast for game three already. Klutz do not read as I am going to be going into some major VLR spoilers here.

Code:
We know that Sigma and Phi are both going to be participating in the events of the game. Further we know that Diana (aka person Luna is apparently based on) is there as well. K also apparently travelled back in time to join the mission. So that's four right there, plus someone from Free the Soul who will probably be either Brother or another clone of Left. Junpei is involved in the events as well, although he isn't at the Mars Test Site. The ending implied that Alice and Clover somehow make it back, so they'll probably make appearances. It is now occurring to me that game 3 was probably originally intended to reuse a large number of character assets, to save costs, from VLR based on this set up.

I do have to wonder about some parts of the set up. We know that there are 9 people at the Test Site, but I have to wonder about whether or not Sigma and Phi are among the 9 originally sent there. If they are not, does that mean two are killed so the numbers work out? Either way, reviewing the plot details has made me hyped!

Whoo! Multi-timeline jumping! I love that concept! I am very glad that they are wrapping the series up properly. I just pray that they go back to 2d character models as I found the 3d ones in VLR to be ugly. >.>
22  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Inafune's latest project The Mighty No.9 looks Mega Rocking, man. on: July 04, 2015, 07:26:21 AM
Of course she's supposed to be black.  Just look at how big her lips are.

No, seriously, for some reason Japanese people have this stereotype that black people have enormous lips.  I don't really get it but you see it all the time there.
...that's because of the U.S. >.> History lesson time! You see a vast majority of anime conventions come from U.S. animation conventions that were prevalent in U.S. animation during the U.S. occupation of Japan. In many ways you can say that the "anime style" of big expressive eyes originates from the Japanese copying Disney cartoons as that is the style of animation that Japanese animators were exposed to before they started working on their own homegrown industry.

Now then, if you go back to U.S. cartoons from that era (well assuming you can find any), you'll notice that blacks were depicted with giant lips in those cartoons. This was playing on stereotypes that were heavily played up in minstrel shows/blackface. Those depictions are now see as being horribly insensitive in the U.S., but Japan's population lacks a significant black presence, so they don't recognize the history for what we imported to them. >.>

The way they expanded from what even Awakening offered I'm sure plays well into that.  Being in tune with "what sells" and the addition of new ideas really seem to be helping it.

...that and I'm sure a fair number of peeps double-dipped to get both titles; you see that quite a bit with Pokemon releases.
Well if you look at the chart, the special edition came in a distant third, but it boosts FEF's sales to over 300k in the first week. Considering that doesn't include DLC purchases for the second campaign, I imagine that FEF is going to be raking in the cash. Only question right now in my mind is how well it will do compared to Awakening internationally.

So saw on the gamefaqs boards yesterday that apparently you just don't have kids if you do the same gender romances. Totally understandable since biology, although slightly annoying from a gameplay perspective if you wanted to go that route. However I just realized that it reduces grinding by three support conversation chains, so yay!

That's a guy!???? Never would have guessed it.
Yup. He is a guy who likes cute things. That is about the extent of what I know about that character
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: June 28, 2015, 07:20:14 AM
Apparently Japan has not only data-mined the game, but data-mined the petting stuff to make Desktop Companions:

love it
Huh, I'm kind of impressed with their dedication...also fyi that is a guy.
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: June 27, 2015, 06:51:22 AM
Lol at not-Tharja being Avatar sexual.
Fun fact about not-Tharja's supports...

Code:
Apparently her supports discuss reincarnation at some point...so she is totally Tharja's soul stalking after you across space and time. >.>
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: June 24, 2015, 06:57:43 AM
Huh, was not expecting that. Especially with the whole A+ same sex support rank. Kudos on IS for adding that. I do have to wonder what impact this has on the children since both the avatar and Zero have children units associated with them. Also interesting that the F/F S rank support is one of the children units.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: June 20, 2015, 06:54:40 AM

Code:
I'm less referring to just that Hoshidians are the only ones bumping uglies, than the fact that grinding up all those S-Ranks will be far more difficult during the Nohrian campaign without a clear plan.
Oh right. Well the solution to that will probably be My Castle as Nohr does have the ability to streetpass and fight for materials there.

Code:
Although I suppose they could be jerks and not allow you to gain support points via such battles just like how you gain no EXP from those battles.
29  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: June 19, 2015, 06:59:53 AM
Welp. Looks like we now have our reason to take the Hoshido path.

Code:
Waifu Emblem 3.0 is a go.

Also the most amusing thing about yesterday's Treehouse coverage was watching the long, dramatic cutscene of Kamui/Corrin/whatever getting sent on a suicide mission all by himself, when his demo stats were more than enough for him to solo the goddamn stage (on top of the Treehouser getting Elise and Cav dude killed due to underestimating enemy stances).
To the best of my knowledge there has been 0 indication that it is exclusive to Hoshido path at this point. We just don't have confirmation it is available on the Nohr path yet.

Code:
I know some people are speculating that it might be unavailable since Nohr doesn't have a world map for paralogues, but the counter to that is that Nohr does have access to My Castle and it is possible to recruit Amiibo characters through My Castle. So children characters might be recruited in My Castle for both sides just like how Amiibo characters are recruited for both sides via My Castle.

I still think that Okabe is stupid.

*disclaimer: I have not played the game so I may be saying something stupid

Code:
Why go for world line 0 where everyone is unhappy when he could have aimed for world line 2 instead and make everyone happy. All he needed was to get away from 1 and each other character's story pushed the number up. So I figure that if he did all his 'character sidequests' in one shot instead of one by one like he did, that'd probably put him at 2. No dead Mayushi, girl Ruka, happy everyone else, etc.
Code:
How exactly was he supposed to do all the of the sidequests in one shot? Everytime he made a change he changed worldliness so he couldn't just send the texts in succession without changing worldliness midway through. And even if he did, that would still only get him to world line 1. In the game you have the option of resolving some of the side quests differently, and the cat girl ending throws Okabe to what is referred to as a gamma world line with basically everyone happy, but his time machine doesn't exist and one detail about the timeline implies that CERN is going to take over in the timeline (although Okabe ignores that fact).

Ah! I knew there was going to be a game, but I didn't know it was going to follow Beta Line Okabe. I'll play it~!

Also, what about the Green Oompa thing bugs you? I'm assuming we are talking about the miniature toy one that Mayuri gets in that episode? DID I MISS SOMETHING???
So final episode, Okabe's mission is to change the events without changing his past self's perception of the events. Then he proceeds to get the metal Oompa resulting in Mayuri getting a green Oompa. Thus he changes his perception of the past, meaning he wouldn't know to purchase the Metal Oompa in the next round of the time loop. They could have easily changed it so that in his first round through he saw Christina pick up the metal Oompa and then knew to either replace it or pick it up before her on the second loop and the time loop would be perfect from Okabe's perception.
