HSDK has had entertaining moments, but that series has been dragging on for a while. I sort of suspected we were getting to the end when half of the evil disciples and masters changed sides for poorly defined reasons. Hopefully the epilogue will wrap everything up in a meaningful way....and I just realized that Takeda got screwed out of getting a good fight with screen time once again....and Ukita never got a master level master. Not that the latter really surprises me.

A lot of mangas end poorly, even longer ones (here's looking at you, School Rumble).  They get dragged out for a while then suddenly get the notice that they're being canceled and try to wrap things up in a few chapters.  Still, series like Naruto and Bleach are so big that you figure they must have some sort of plan for the ending.  It's the smaller stuff that really gets screwed.

The worst manga ending I have ever seen has got to belong to a little series called "Shinigamisama ni Saigo no Onegai wo".  It's like the author was just trolling his readership at that point (and it's doubly heartbreaking because it was a really interesting story all the way until the final chapter...).
Ugh I wish Bleach would just end at this point. I don't know why it is still going. We've known this is the last arc for more than a year, and it has been ranking in the bottom 5 of the table of contents for the majority of that year. x_x

Honestly Naruto is ending pretty poorly. We've had the final villain changed three times, including once to a character that was mentioned for the first time like a month before she took over as the villain. And....yeah I'm going to save myself the time by just saying the final arc in Naruto has been really bad. I am looking forward to the series ending because it just needs to die at this point.

Anyone playing Danganronpa 2?

I'm enjoying it a lot. I didn't think I liked the characters as much as the first game but I'm really warming up to them.

Spoilers for the end of chapter 2!

Code:
I'm so bummed out. It was clever how the game used our knowledge of Genocider from the first game to make us think there was no originality, only to turn it on its head. It was very touching and yeah I teared up.

I'm playing it and finished chapter 2 last night. Loved Monokuma's reaction when that started happening.

Side note, I have a theory regarding Chiaki based on completing her hope fragment. If I'm right potentially major spoilers. If I'm wrong....well humorous theory. :p

Code:
Chiaki is Alter Ego! I don't know how that works, but I feel fairly confident on this.

I'm going to try and answer that question logically as opposed to as the .Hack fanatic that I am.

- All you really have to know about .Hack//SIGN to understand the games is that the series ends with Skeith pursuing Aura, the rest of the info from the series is repeated with more detail in the games. That being said, .Hack//SIGN is easily the best part of the franchise.

- .Hack//Roots is a direct prequel to .Hack//GU I recommend at least watching the first three volumes (up to the incident with Shino) The rest is filler until the ending (which you see in the game) that is occasionally referenced in the games, but not to a degree that will leave you scratching your head.

If you find yourself really into the story of the first set of games, I recommend .Hack//Another Birth. They're a set of novellas that retell the story from BlackRose's perspective. Not the best written literature, but some of the extra information makes it a nice compliment to the games.
I'd also recommend AI Buster if you enjoy the series. It explains some background events that are referenced occasionally such as how Orca and Balmung became legendary characters.

Got through most the feels episodes of Futurama last night. I shed a manly tear during the ending of Jurassic Bark...because I had something in my eye. :p

Edit: Fudge just realized I posted this in the wrong thread. x_x

Code:
I kind of just assumed by the trophy being called "fate repeater" that events would have, somehow, repeated.

Code:
Well some of fate does repeat (namely Ludgar and Marta falling in love and having a kid after Ludgar's adventures end), but since Ludgar is the greatest mass murderer in existence and is from the prime dimension, certain events will be incapable of reoccurring. I mean Victor's whole goal was to become Ludgar Prime. The Ludgar we were following already is Ludgar Prime, at least by virtue of being the only Ludgar left. (because he killed all the others absorbing their essence to become the Highlander or something...)

Also, Jude is allergic to cats!  I was laughing at how everyone was ignoring his sneezing during the Skits when you hate something like 80+ cats.  But I do think the idea of him with Spyrite cats is great.
He was disrespecting the king of cats, of course they were ignoring him as punishment.

Got the arena ending last night. Best ending of the game. Screw the true end, arena end for canon!

Code:
Elle definitely presents a time paradox; as it's unlikely Ludger would have reacted with tears at the sight of Lara unless he knew Elle.  I just assume in the "first timeline" where it didn't happen Ludger and Lara got along and married despite that; if it was destined to be once, maybe it would again (peculiar and emotional first meeting aside).

But other than that, I thought the late game plot was a bit of a mess as a whole.  The whole 'millionth catalyst' (iirc) thing didn't feel like it was mentioned anywhere but at that final moment -- and it felt incredibly contrived that it all worked out anyways.  I can't really make sense of what the point of the Chapter 10 boss was (with the, like, one of three unique new dungeons Xill2 had).

It also becomes kinda sad that Ludger lost his life and potential family to save a different dimensional version of his child.... But he would have turned into Victor anyways.... so it doesn't matter..... and...AND...

I dunno.  Kinda like how Vesperia has a pretty garbage story made significantly better by its main cast's chemistry, I think Xill 2 has a messy plot saved by the high emotions it throws them into.

Code:
Eh? Ludger would not have become Victor. Since he completed Origin's trial, prime-Elle wouldn't has had powers, and Bisley is dead he wouldn't have tried to use prime-Elle, thus he would have lived a normal life with prime-Elle and Lara (till she died of mysterious illness/w/e). Plus there would be no other dimensions to send prime-Elle to.

Side note, anyone else think that the wish should have been for making humans immune to the miasma? You know instead of committing genocide on a scale beyond human comprehension? Plus I strongly think that Elle should have been destroyed by the wish to destroy all fractured dimensions because she was part of one. Maybe that is why the true end truly doesn't work for me, because that set up should have resulted in both Ludger and Elle dying.
21  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of PlayStation(s) revealed on: September 07, 2014, 08:06:36 AM
Got all three endings now. The game was great, but I didn't find any of the endings satisfying.

Code:
The bad ending was entertaining, but it was obviously a bad endings so yeah. The true ending felt off because I was positive it was going to be going for a Disney ending where Ludgar is saved from his transformation by Origin as a bonus and then that didn't happen. So there was serious tonal whiplash in my mind as a result. I guess the normal ending was the one I liked the most? I dunno. I think that part of what bugs me about the True ending is that Ludgar's choice is basically going to have major unintended consequences, such as preventing the Elle of his dimension from ever being born and depriving that Marta woman from the person she was supposed to marry. I understand the choice that Ludgar was supposed to be making there, but I didn't care for it. Side note, found it funny that when I first played through I was adamant about saving Elle and she died and then when I said lets destroy the fractured dimensions, that was when Elle lived. >.>

Side note, I was totally head cannoning that Xillia was taking place in the Symphonia world in a timeline where Tales of Symphonia 2 did not happen until I saw they used a vastly different design for Origin. I mean they expanded the greater summon spirits in the Xillia World to include basically all of missing ones from Symphonia/Phantasia (minus Gremlin Lair and Chameleon....who don't really count) including several which had previously been exclusive to Symphonia/Phantasia. Oh well, I love summon spirits, so I'm content with the addition of more. Kind of wondering what the deal with Aska is in Xillia.....eh I'm hoping it at least gets mentioned in the EX Dungeon.

The amount of optional Riesze Maxia areas to explore in chapter 9 of Xillia 2 here is massive. I put in quite a few hours over the last two days and am just polishing it off now. I feel like the pacing of this game is severely compromised by how long it lures me into exploring and finding kitties at this point.

While whining a bit here, I will also note I am retarded-addicted to the title.  This is damn near illicit substance level obsession at this point.

NOTE: I love Ludgers school uniform with accompanying music. I hope they get some more costumes out for DLC before I finish the game up.
Personally, I dislike the music that comes with the school outfits (which is annoying because I like most of the school outfits). I believe at this point that there are at most two sets of costumes left for DLC. There are cameo costumes for the new characters, and if we are lucky the Code Geass costumes. Sadly I'll probably be finished with the game before those come out.

So just about to go into chapter 13, from what I recall this is when I can do the bad ending....I think I know what I am going to have to do to trigger this bad end. This is going to be interesting...

Honestly I see why the game gets a lot of flack. I forgive the reused environments and enemies and such from 1, that's ok, but when you basically just rehash a bunch of the story elements into "what if" scenarios, it does get a little depressing. Also Chapter 11 pretty much killed me (not sharing how or why), so the rest of the game was like meh, whatever. I enjoyed it and all, first new rpg I've played since xillia 1 came out, so yeah. Worth my time and money for sure, but only because Milla is my favorite tales character ever design wise...plus Jude is pretty much awesome now.

Aww you didn't feel anything in chapter 12? That's when they turn the feels up to the maximum if you ask me.
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Sakura Wars [PC] Fan Translation on: September 03, 2014, 06:52:49 AM
The PS2/Wii game is STIV, correct? How much connection is there between games in the series?
The way I recall the connections between games working is:
ST2 is a direct sequel to 1, with all the major characters returning and two new females on the team.
ST3 has the same male lead, but he is now in Paris instead of Tokyo. I seem to recall there are cameos of all the ST2 females.
ST4 is back in Tokyo, but the entire ST3 cast shows up and joins in. I also recall the game is extremely short and is mainly just a quick finale.
ST5 follows a new lead with a cameo from the male lead and one of the female characters at the beginning.

....mind you I've only played 5, but I have read translated scripts for 1-4.
24  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: September 02, 2014, 06:53:22 AM
Persona 5's protagonist needs sun worse than I do.

From the trailer it seems to have a darker vibe to it than P4 was. All that red and the breaking chains symbolism. But then again the next trailer could completely change all that.

I dunno. I dig it though.

P4 was hardly a 'dark' game. As far as I remember it never reached some of the most dense moments P3 had.

Edited.*
Personally I don't find P3 to really be that "dark" either. It has some dark aspects to the plot, but those get washed away by the overall hopeful tone of the game and the ridiculousness caused by trying too hard to be dark (for example the amount of blood on the ground during the extra hour makes me laugh more than it makes me feel uncomfortable).

So I've been watching the second season of Defiance on Hulu, and I've come to a realization. I hate this town, I would be perfectly okay with it being burnt to the ground because the people in it are absolute assholes and I don't care for 90% of them. You may now be asking, why do I keep watching it? Well besides the fact that these people are probably going to end up burning the town to the ground, either figuratively or literally, I love Nolan. He is a great character and I love his portrayal. I watch the show at this point for him and nothing else. Well okay Irisa's plot is alright, but that is partly because it ties very closely to Nolan's plot. The Doc is also alright....kinda. Everyone else can burn (although I think that is the reaction I am supposed to have Datak).

This is what I'm seeing.

--- edit ---

Okay after putting your thing down, flipping it, and reversing it, I see what it's supposed to be.

Yeah, not gonna lie, I've been seeing it as some weird bird thing this whole time...

That thing is more Rorschach than Rorschach, I just see metal goop.

...god damn it, this is the one site where I would not expect people to not get what it is. Roxas is very disappointed in all of you.

With that said, I need to ask you guys who are leagues ahead of me. With what logic do you guys develop your characters using the Allium Orb system??

What I mean to say is, no decision seems better than any other in terms of which extractors/elements are used most or maxed. Thus far I have been working via point priority with the goal of keeping a well rounded balance for each element so as not to miss artes and skills. My second priority then becomes focusing on element corresponding with the skills I want strongest. Is this a solid strategy or am I missing something?

Eh personally I just put whichever extractors get the character the most points on them, leave them on till they star an element, try to finish off any other elements if it was a multi element extractor, and then repeat. Has worked great for me so far. By the time I recruited Gaius (chapter 9 I think?), I had multiple characters on the verge of maxing out their orbs. Then again I am grinding like a mad man, so what do I know?

Side note, after you finish the side quest that unlocks poker (tengu mask quest), you can get some insane extractors from poker which is extremely easy. One is 2, 2, 3, and 3 for the four the elements and one is 4 dark 4 light just as some examples.

Unrelated but Ranadiel wtf is your avatar it looks like the eraserhead baby
O.o It is Roxas in the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix's secret ending Another Side Another Story: Deep Dive. He's running up the side of the building while fighting off a hoard of heartless with dual keyblades. If I recall correctly this specific image is from Roxas looking at Riku as Riku is passing by Roxas after jumping off the top of the building. If you haven't seen it, you should totally look up the video (and its predecessor Another Side Another Story) because it is amazing.

First reaction on seeing Shulk's face on the preview image for the teaser video: AHHHHHHH! Kill it with fire!

Looking forward to playing as him in the game. Should be loads of fun!....but still that face. *cries*

I'm so happy..... :D
SO HAPPY. I think it's finally time I preordered too. I'm just worried, is anyone getting the WiiU one at all?? I feel like everyone is on the the 3DS.

Also, Dunban was on the Smash art...another character or art fire arts sake (probably the latter, but that's cool too)?

I love nintendo directs
I'll be getting the Wii U version because it is better for playing the game at parties since I only know one other person with a 3DS.

On the topic of Suikoden 5, it is easily my favorite game in the Suikoden series.I don't remember the load times being an issue for me, and I absolutely love the storyline in that game.

And shit forgot about her. And Viki too for that matter.
There isn't really a whole lot to explain about Viki, she has the most powerful teleportation magic in existence and it happens to go crazy when she sneezes. Just headcannon her as a time lord with an internal TARDIS and boom everything works. :p
