16  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X on: May 13, 2015, 06:51:08 AM

I've heard things. Random, varied and conflicting things. Conflicting things like...

Code:
the game ending with a sequel hook, which may or may not be an attempt by Takashi to staple XBCX onto the Gears pre-history (Xenogears was originally billed as the fifth game in a series that ultimately never came to be; glimpses of what could've been were shown in a single flashback during Gears itself and the Ultimania guide; Chronicles X seems to imply that its game 1 of this series, but I've heard nothing concrete either way (mostly because I'm sticking to as much of an information blackout as I can)). Either way though, outside of a few callbacks, XBCX has nothing to do with XBC verse/sequel-wise.

Basically, I know as much about this game as you do.

Code:
I'd have to find some translations of Perfect Works to double check, but now that you mention it, XBX does seem to cover the events that are supposed to occur in Episode 1. (i.e., the abandoning of Old Jerusalem). However I don't think it can be Episode 1 however as the original Xeno universe lacked any aliens. I can only assume that the "ending spoiler" is the reveal of the emulators.

Actually nm, just double checked and the events of Episode 1 in Perfect Works and the abandoning of Old Jerusalem took place 5,000 years before the events of Episode 1, after humanity was in control of most of the milky way. So XBX is an alternate version of episode 0?

It's 'big Act 1 spoiler' is pretty interesting to say the least (I regret that I know it), but like Aeo mentioned there's apparently a sequel hook by the end which makes me think, like Xenosaga Episode I, XBX maaaaay be telling an 'incomplete tale' and just covering an 'arc' to an overall story.  But the specifics I don't know for sure, or to what extent the "story is incomplete" (if at all), or if it's just DLC, or if the story events around the game's otherwise 'big spoiler' is interesting too.

Code:
Not sure how much I like that it may connect to Xenogears to whatever extent it is..... I mean, can it even do that?  Or can Square Enix breathe down their necks about it?  Being honest, I'm more sad there's little to no connection to Xenoblade 1, Xenoblade X (besides having Nopons) seems to 'loosely reference' every Xeno game other than Xenoblade, ironically... :(
Again, hopefully the game will be out and I'll eat my words....

I do like that this series seems to be about 'humanity after Earth' -- an interesting idea if there was one.

Code:
No they can't (unless they had a very weird contract with Square when they worked there), but that didn't stop them from making the Xenosaga series which was pretty clearly covering an alternate version of the events preceding Episode 2.

New info and wut? Phoenix Modo? Lol. Should've called it the 'roll over and beg for it' modo. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to even lose? Run out of weapon uses? Oh wait....
You probably lose by Kamui dying. Or failing the objective on missions other than destroy the enemy missions (which there is supposed to be more of).

Finished grinding supports for all Gen 1 to Gen 1 characters in Fire Emblem Awakening. Next up is going to be grinding out all the Gen 1 to Gen 2 conversations (and all Morgan (F) sibling conversations)...oh god that is going to be fun. I mean Lucina, Inigo, and Morgan (M) are done, but that still leaves a lot of repetitive conversations to grind. x_x.

Am I misreading or did you just say you hated them but they're also the best in the series?
I think Dice is saying she hates them from a mechanical point of view but views the selection of summons available in FFX from a story/design perspective to be one of the better batches.

Some blogger I go to occasionally has a pretty swell plot explanation for Type-0 written up:
http://punctualdork.com/post/117029123414/final-fantasy-type-0-explained

It sucks because the ideas are great.....but instead quests are inconveniencing the plot since you're grabbing some asshole's book he forgot in the middle of nowhere and then you have to play the game all over to get into these juicy bits (the "tell, don't show" style of the story doesn't help either).
Reading that link and I'm finding a few mistakes in it. For example phantom are not the reason that Class 0 are unaffected by crystal jammers, as all magic is based on phantoma.

Kingdom Hearts BBS - Ehhhh... I don't know, there is something bugging me about this game. I've never actually digged KH lore and I'm already being bombarded by it in full power and also with crappy tutorials that I really can't even put to practice yet. Not sure if I'm in the mood now, but might stick around for a bit in case the game actually starts at some point.

<snip>

edit: getting my butt kicked in KH. I've always played KH in Proud mode, but sheesh these enemies are relentless. Or maybe Aqua is just weak. It's kind of fun, but I'm not really looking forward to switching characters, since I kind of like to have a steadily progressing curve in my RPGs. I don't like getting weaker because the game says so.

BBS is easily the best KH, so keep at it! Aqua's specialty is magic, so make sure you are using magic commands with her (at least until you have a few levels). Also as an fyi, the recommended order for playing the characters is Terra->Ven-> Aqua.

However, I'm not sorry that Whedon is leaving and we're getting the guys from Cap 2, because I loved that movie.

I have faith in them to deliver a good sequel(s).

Ah fudge, I liked Winter Soldier, but at some points the action in it nearly gave me a headache because of how the action was shot.

So rewatching Gundam 00 for something like the fifth time. Currently on season 2. I would probably say it was perfect if it wasn't for the Saji plot line in season 2. It works alright in season 1, but he just gets unbearable in season 2. x_x

Idk about the rest of you, but that Shazam movie is what I'm looking at right now...

So many questions, so many possibilities.
I want to look forward to that movie, but DC seems to be going for the dark and gritty feel with their movie universe, so I am instead expecting an angst filled movie missing the entire point of Shazam and my money as well. >.>
25  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Game that took you the longest time to finish on: May 01, 2015, 03:37:33 AM
Current record is Last Rebellion. Started it up in 2010 and just finished it up last year. Not that it really matters that it was the same save file as I quit almost as soon as I found a save point. That game was just bad.

*looks left*.

Um..  Baten Kaitos Origins.  Still haven't beaten it, totally intend to.  That Pac-Man quest might just not be worth it...  But the game is hard, so it'd be nice to get the super rewards. :(
Ah fudge, thank you for reminding me that I still have that left undone. I don't think I am ever going to actually finish it though. I'm pretty sure I am right at the end of the game since I quit after repeatedly dying to the bosses for the ultimate cards, but I have run away from random battles too many times for me to be at a level where I can actually fight things.

Been working on finally wrapping up the Support Conversations in FE Awakening. Finished grinding affection last night between Female Robin and all the second gen characters. Now I just need to get all of second gen Robin daddy conversations and then I will be done with the female exclusive ones and can move onto my male playthrough where I will unlock everything that is left...this is going to be fun. X_X

I want to believe it'll be better than GT. It has to be. I mean, that was the bottom, surely they can only go up, right?
Ha, you optimists. You make me laugh. It can always get worse.

"It's important to note del Toro was speaking only on collaborating with Kojima, not whether or not the game has been cancelled. "You'll have to go after Konami for those answers," our source said." -- IGN
Would anyone even want the game to happen if it was missing Del Toro and Kojima?
29  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Code name S.T.E.A.M. for 3ds on: April 25, 2015, 07:33:50 AM
So some good news. I got an email from Nintendo last night informing me that there was an update to the Codename STEAM demo, which includes the ability to speed up the enemy phase! I'm assuming there is a similar update to the main game as well. So we now have the ability to speed up game play!

So I watched last week's episode of Agents of Shield. This episode covered May's Cavalry backstory...wow that was brutal. I saw where it was going fairly early on, but that didn't stop me from tearing up when it got there. Excellent episode.
