242  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Ghost in the Shell (by Hollywood) on: October 18, 2014, 07:37:58 AM
I have very minimal belief that Hollywood could pull off something like Ghost in the Shell, but it might be interesting to see them try I guess.

...Personally, I'm more interested in what middle-aged hulk could play Batou...
Ron Perlman.
It is really easy for me to see him as Batou since his glasses in Pacific Rim look exactly like Batou's eyes (although they are the wrong color).

Hyrule Warriors- Got the level 3 Great Fairy! Still need to get about 7 more level 3 weapons, including the summoning gate. I am loving the game, but I am dreading grinding all the characters up to get their level 3 weapons. Although what I should probably be dreading the most are completing the illustrations because the second Golden Skulltalla(or w/e they are called) are freaking insane to unlock.
244  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: i hope we get this too(WA5) on: October 17, 2014, 06:28:50 AM
WA5 is the only WA I couldn't bring myself to like.  It's like it sucked out everything I enjoyed from WA and replaced it with...bleh.
Really? I found WA5 to be one of my favorites of the series. The only one I could not like was WA4....because apparently being an adult=being evil. >.>
245  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Zelda Musou on: October 16, 2014, 06:39:55 AM
So today is when I have been hearing that the first two DLCs (freebie and Master Quest) are hitting the U.S. So yay! New characters to complete when I am still working on getting third weapons for everyone else! x_x

But seriously I am loving the heck out of this game. I'm actually kind of amazed because I am not getting tired of it despite the many many hours I have put into it. Normally I would be wanting to wrap a Musou game up by now.

Oh and I just remembered the patch that should be coming out today will have the most amazing thing ever! Ability to turn off character intros!
246  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Live-Action Sci-Fi Tetris Movie on: October 16, 2014, 06:30:37 AM
Meanwhile there's a Quiji movie out soon.

All I want now is for some shmuck to attempt to make a movie based off the board game Risk, and do the game proper justice.

That means a 10 hour feature consisting entirely of an ever increasing number of troops charging across various desolate fields, cutting to some talking heads between battles and repeating until the view zooms out to the global scale where Australia looks like its covered in goddamn ants swarming up to Asia to start yet another land war and to make the final bid to crush the poor sap stuck in China of all places.
I've actually had a game of risk that lasted less than 5 hours. Although you could actually probably make a good movie out of Risk. You would just have to have more betrayals than in Pirates of the Caribbean 3 to make it genuine. :p
247  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age 3 on: October 14, 2014, 06:43:53 AM
i was thinking of replaying DA1 and 2 before this to get a new carry over save...is that pointless now?
If you enjoy the games and want to play them to remember everything that has happened, then replaying them would not be pointless. If you only want to replay them to create save data to import, then yes it would be pointless.
248  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age 3 on: October 10, 2014, 06:14:54 AM
Ranadiel: I hope the choices from DLCs are included in the DA Keep.

Such as?

It is strange that now that we are just one month from release, we still don't know the system requirements. I don't have a PS4/XONE so it is PS3/360 or PC. I am guessing it will look a lot better on PC and I thought my 270X would be able to run it easily but then lately games have come out that need 4GB of VRAM or more for high res textures and my card have just 2GB. But even if I cannot run it on the maximum settings it should look a lot better than on PS3/360 I would think. I prefer to play on console, I played the first games on 360, but they are so old now that I doubt that version will be that good.
The specs are supposed to be coming out this week. Since today is Friday and they still aren't out as far as I can tell,  I guess it will be released today?
249  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Anime/Manga Journal on: October 08, 2014, 06:21:18 AM
I actually rather like how they focus a lot on the other members of Soul Society/Ichigo's friends instead of being central to only the main character. The variety spices things up, the problem is how drawn out some fights are and how they constantly switch between fights instead of focusing on one at a time imo.

There is a difference between having a large cast where everyone gets some focus, development and spotlight (One Piece) and replacing your entire cast every arc with only a couple of fan favorites getting any development, the other just vanishing or being beaten down every arc (Hi Chad). Bleach really does not give focus to anyone other than Ichigo, it may give other characters screen time but the non-Ichigo time is split between so many characters that they are closer to cameos than getting the spotlight.

Is it double posting if your last post was more than a day or two ago? Likewise, does subject matter impact qualifying as double posting? These are deep philosophical questions to which I may never have answers.

Anyhoo, I just got the true ending last night (finally). I didn't realize just how much variety was available in the ending choices to be honest. Only after finishing the game did I realize that even within the "normal" and "true" endings scenes change based on your decisions.

As for the ending I got and what choices I made.
I chose to destroy the fractured dimensions but save Elle by becoming the catylyst. The ability to choose this course of action and carry out the thematic of self-sacrifice made for a VERY satisfying ending in my opinion. I am really interested to see the other endings now but can't imagine enjoying any as much as this. It was the quintessential "perfect" way for things to play out in my eyes. It also actually makes both Ludger and your choices feel like weighty narrative components. Conclusive and not bloated with a conventional post climax character by character summary. The ending scene I got with Elle as teen post credits was gorgeous as well.

I may not have played through and beaten every Tales game yet. However, without even needing to weigh the others I have seen, I can easily say this wraps up as my favorite Tales narrative yet. I certainly liked different aspects of the other franchise entries more but hands down Xillia/Xillia 2 takes the cake in terms of story for me.  I really feel like they tried a lot harder to write something meaningful within this game. What I commend them for is doing so without making it some hard to follow riddle that required a genious level I.Q to sort out and follow. I even felt the poorly explained and simple "science" of spirts, spirit artes and spyrites was way easier to comprehend now with the Xillia 2 script supporting and fleshing out a great deal that seemed unclear to me after the first game.

Ok I'm done gushing now. I know many fans have already expressed being unhappy with Xillia 2's narrative and endings but I couldn't be more pleased. I will certainly be going back and getting all the other endings for this game for sure. Time well spent :)

Yes it is still double posting. However we will forgive you for being a dirty double poster due to those circumstances. :p

Personally preferred normal ending to true ending, although the arena ending is the best ending of all, so you need to go and earn that and the hot springs ending.

Fucking finally!

Assuming it keeps the date, it'll beat Bleach in knowing when to give it up.

Agreed! I'm so glad that both series are ending in the foreseeable future (though Bleach will probably drag out the final story arc for another year with inane battles as per usual). Naruto, in my opinion at least, was able to live up to its potential in the last six months. It was pretty blah for a really long time though.

Bleach on the other hand, sigh...

Last six months? The Kaguya fight was a completely random ass pull where they fought a god with no personality and no understanding of how to use her powers effectively. It was a waste of time and honestly she felt like less of a threat than Madara did. Naruto/Sasuke fight looks like it will be a passable fight though so at least it will end on a good note.

On the subject of Bleach, I started watching the series very recently, like a few weeks ago and I'm skipping all the filler and I'm 20 episodes short of ending the Anime. It has a few pacing issues but I really enjoy the characters, fights and they managed to pull off some decent twists and the villains are actually pretty cool. Characters have enough backstory to them. I like it a lot even with all the typical shounen trappings.
I haven't watched the later arcs in the anime, so maybe they managed to save some of the fights, but Bleach really suffers more and more as the series goes on. One the fake town arc starts, the series has just lost it. Fullbringer arc was absolutely horrible. Bleach's biggest problem is that Kubo handles writer's block by drawing new characters, and based on the cast for Bleach, he gets writer's block a lot. x_x For example, he introduced a new character two weeks ago, killed that character off last week, and then proceeded to add four new characters this week. Bleach was so much better when it was about Ichigo killing Hollows. >.>
252  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust making a spiritual successor to Ar Tonelico: Ar no Surge on: October 05, 2014, 07:14:11 AM
I personally don't find much trouble with the relationship between us and Ion. After all, that was already pre-established from Ciel nosurge (even though we didn't get that game), and it's a rather nice thought to have someone in a different dimension that thinks about us. After all, given that part of the point of the game is to make players look at the games they play in another way, it kinda defeats the purpose to not consider Earthes as an insert for the player. This is also reinforced by the lyrics to the opening theme "To the Songless Hill -Harmonics Pre=Ciel", which states they are summoning us through our PS3s because their world needs us.

As for adjusting personalities, choices can only be applied once, but if you move the trends of the other characters in a specific direction, you'll also make the heroine move in the direction of that character if you use a Song Magic that was gained from them. For example: if you set Nay to masochistic and repeatedly use Ion's Artificial Flower Song Magic, Ion will gradually shift to being masochistic herself
My issue with it is the lovely dovey aspects of it (well not counting inside of the dives because those have different context). My thoughts whenever that came up were those characters in anime who are obsessed with the girls of the 2D world, and my reaction basically boiled down o_o "Nope, you went too far with this dialogue this time Gust." Maybe my feelings on this are related to the fact that when I was younger I was obsessed with Karen from Harvest Moon 64 and dreamed of the day I would find a way to cross into the game world. That was not healthy for me even if I did somehow manage to manage to not screw my life up. The lovey dovey aspects of the Earthes/Ion really seem to be bordering on encouraging some unhealthy behavior in people and that is what is making it feel awkward for me.

I really felt that the Delta/Cass storyline was better for the whole viewing games in a different way. That storyline was great. Also the dialogue before the final battle relating to the theme was great.

And yeah I know that the shared songs move the main girls towards the girl they shared the song with, which is why I wanted to get adjust the other girls so that I could readjust Ion/Cass after using their ultimate magics since Ion/Cass move towards the center whenever they use their individual songs like robo dragon of doom. Unfortunately moving most of the other girls to where I wanted was impossible. Ended up just hacking the personality matrix thing instead to save me hours of trying to do something impossible. >.>

As a woman I was kinda glad the game paired me up with Ion instead of a character like Cass. Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for smart sweethearts, but I thought she was pleasant to be around. Good taste in entertainment too. If I could weave whatever song magic I liked, I sure as hell would have chosen a big mechanical dragon as well!

I did feel a little bad for not being able to tell her I'm not a man. She assumes the player is a dude (and I know most of them are) and is eager to believe there's a possibility they'll someday meet back in her home dimension... Is this what it feels like to be a plot twist?
I like Ion a bit more than Cass as a character (although I do feel like Ion's character is bordering on being otaku pandering). And this post reminds me of another reason the lovey dovey aspects felt awkward to me. My best friend is gay and the only other person I know in real life who played Ar Tonelico games. He's holding out for the Vita port for Ar Nosurge, and I couldn't help but sometimes think about how awkward Ion coming on to him was going to end up being when he eventually plays it. >.>

Edit: Just thought of another reason why the lovey dovey bits of Ion/Earthes are awkward, I'm 27, pretty sure she is supposed to mentally be in her teens....yeah, creepy. :p
253  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust making a spiritual successor to Ar Tonelico: Ar no Surge on: October 04, 2014, 07:38:35 AM
Whee I'm in mid to late Phase 3 right now. I have completed everything in Genomtrics except for one last song and I'm on the verge of completing all of the item synthesis. And based off of all of that, I feel comfortable now saying that I love the game. I think Ar Tonelico 1 is still going to be my favorite of the meta-series, but this game is great and is a contender for the number 2 slot.

After having gone deep into the dives, I have to say that I really do love the way they handled the friend dives. I think the way they handled Interdimend was brilliant. Battle system is hit and miss for me because I like the concept of blowing up waves of enemies with a single attack, but I feel like sometimes the battles drag on (oddly it is the ten wave battles with lots of strong enemies that have this feeling the most).

Honestly the aspect of the game that I disliked the most was the Earthes/Ion relationship. Whenever I'm at one of those scenes I can't help but feel awkward. I mean it just feels like wish fulfillment for neets. I love the game, but that relationship is the one thing where I feel like it might have gone too far. I have to wonder if it is possible to make it less awkward with different selections but my instinct is no. It does help though when I consider the 7th dimensional being a character in the game rather than as a player proxy (although that does sort of weaken the brilliance of Interdimend). Incidentally I am praying that there is no one alive who has Ion's true name, as if there is I imagine their lives became quite.....interesting after the release of the game. x_x

Oh well back to the game! Currently in the middle of trying to max out O and S on my best spells that didn't come from the main heroines so that I can easily adjust their personalities for max offensive benefits but I seem to be stuck. I'm beginning to worry that each option in a dive only has a personality impact once which might make completely maxing them out impossible at this point. >.>

I don't know what was discussed about it in this thread already, so forgive me if I'm echoing some exhausted topic here, but was anyone else disturbed by the Xillia 2 bad ending? Not so much by the content but the fact that it was in a Tales game? That was not what I was expecting out of any ending (good or bad) for a Tales title.

NOTE: I have been dodging ending discussion because I had not beaten it yet. I still have not beaten it in any other manner, so if coded spoiler-tastic replies ensue (talking about other endings and whatnot) please forgive my lack of response.
Eh, it was basically just a repeat of events that occurred

in Victor's dimension (well with some differences).

So I didn't find it out of place, and nothing was really shown, only implied, so it didn't bug me. I might have laughed hard because of the tonal shift, but I think that was about the extent of my reaction to it.
255  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Live-Action Sci-Fi Tetris Movie on: October 01, 2014, 06:07:18 AM
The sad part about this story to me is that this means that somewhere out there exists multiple people whole thought this was a good idea and were willing to put money towards making it happen. I am having a hard time comprehending that.
