My opinion of the Nisekoi manga started roughly at "amusing distraction" and then degenerated into "worthless trash" as it dragged on and on and on with plot lines that ran in circles and zero character development.  It also suffers from "too many characters" syndrome.  Seriously, what purpose do Tsugumi and Tachibana even serve in this story?  It's like every time the author runs out of ideas he just tosses another character in the pot.

Needless to say I'm not a fan.  I've heard people saying good things about the anime but I am just way too biased against the manga at this point to give it a fair shot...

And if you cut the filler out of Nisekoi there wouldn't be anything left.  Other than the first few characters that set the scene it's 100% filler.
Eh there actually are a few arcs in Nisekoi that are non-filler. Or at least they vaguely advance the locket plot line. I think you are right about the author just adding new characters whenever he runs out of ideas though. I've only been reading it since U.S. Shonen Jump started carrying it and there have been like 6-10 new characters in that time frame. However I would rather read Nisekoi than 90% of recent chapters of Naruto and Bleach.....which is more about the quality of Naruto and Bleach than the quality of Nisekoi.

I thought the game ended on year 3, sorry, my mistake.
I just hot access to the desert and before looking it up now and you guys mentioning I didn't know I had to collect some flowers to get a better ending.
I don't plan on getting everything anymore, especially on my first run, but I did want to see at least a "normal" ending. The ending most people would get without looking a guide or something.
Game ends on year 3 if you fail to "beat" the game before then. You get two extra years if you manage that.
243  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Ayesha on: February 22, 2014, 08:33:37 AM
So, Atelier Escha & Loggy will be released next month. With that in mind I decided to go back to Ayesha. For some reason I ended up not finishing it.
While I do like the game for me the previous two atelier games were better.

So, I'd like to ask something for those who have finished and have some memory of the story. I'm at the part where I just got access to Hornheim, together with the balloons and the Homunculus Village. Anyone remembers if I'm far from the end? That's because I only have one year left.
Also, I didn't trigger a scene or anything special going there, I wonder if I missed something...
That is....hard to say. I believe it is possible to actually "beat" the game without going there if I am remembering correctly. There are a lot of other details that are important to figuring out how far along you are. The most important being how many key-item flowers do you have? I want to say you need to have five of those to be able to "beat" the game, and you can get one in the desert that you can get to via balloon. Unless you mean you are in year 4 when you say that you only have a year left.....in which case you have already "beaten" the game.
244  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Bravely Default: Flying Fairy on: February 22, 2014, 08:26:18 AM
Just beat the game a little bit ago....."normal" ending is better than "true" ending. So overall impressions.....the game was alright. I still don't get what all the hype was about. I loved the overall plot. However I thought it was executed poorly. The first half of the game the dialogue makes me cringe and I never really came to care about the characters. During the second half, I stopped cringing about the dialogue (although I dunno if that is because it got better or because I just stopped expecting anything). However that was also the time that the plot gets thin and the quests get stale. Had they cut a condensed a couple of the second half of chapters together then it would have helped a lot (not like anything important happened in chapter 5 or the last chapter). Then just the ending....better bring out the code block.

Code:
I have no problem with Oubor....fudge I am not trying to spell that out repeatedly. So I shall call him snake guy. I have no problem with snake guy just suddenly entering the storyline. That didn't bother me. What bugged me was just about everything else. If I was reading what was said correctly I was supposed to be the Celestial possessing Tiz, so basically a Baten Kaitos set up that was only hinted at one time prior. And therefore the Celestial Realm is our world. It really bugged me that they therefore described our world as not knowing war or strife. I sort of get what they were going for, but it doesn't work on multiple levels and instead comes off as the developers being ignorant. And then we get to the battles with snake guy. Five freaking rounds or so where you get booted out and have to reset up your buffs etc with no healing in between. I was fine as I was using some "cheap" tactics as I was just trying to get through the game (although one of my characters was getting close to running low on MP), but I can see that getting so frustrating if you were trying to fight it normally. Anyways moving on from gameplay...

The whole cutting over to other worlds thing was so freaking cheesy. I was basically face palming the entire time. I...ugh. And, wait a sec. My brain just made a connection.....OH MY FUCKING GOD! That sequence doesn't even make sense. The worlds that you see are supposed to be the worlds that Airy connected, but she killed off the Warriors of Light that she used and Ringabel is in all of those worlds? I call freaking BS. BS! And that nonsensical bit just made me forget if there was anything else to really complain about. Oh right Tiz collapsing. Very random. I can sort of get what the intent there is supposed to be, but it made me think of Persona 3 only minus the themes which almost made it work in Persona 3 (thought it really didn't work in Persona 3). I suppose ironically I thought Persona 3's hero was just sleeping until playing The Answer and that Tiz died until the I saw the bonus movie. And I think that ends my rant.

Side note: Is it every explained why Airy betrayed the team in Ringabel's world? I mean she didn't bother with killing off my party and we went through five worlds, so it wasn't that she was just done with them as she could have kept using them like she did us.

Overall.....6/10? I don't know because I do like it, but this plot deserved a much better cast and better execution. I think I was leaning towards 7/10 prior to the ending, but that really reminded me of the game's flaws and added a few more to the pile.

Code:
WTF, I have to go through the crystal reawakening FOUR FUCKING TIMES? Are they insane?

Yes.
To both.

I beat Kingdom Hearts 1.5 last year and I don't remember that battle being difficult at all. Is that a spot people typically struggle?
I dunno, I've beaten the game like 5 times and I only recall having trouble with the fight on my last playthrough. I don't even remember why I had such trouble, so I am just going to blame the infernal swimming controls. >.>

Pacific Rim

If there was anything to gain from it, it's proof that giant robots and monsters can be boring.
Heretic!

Whee, in the last chapter, just two side quests left. I am dreading the last one.

Code:
Specifically I am dreading having to fight Praline with three other generals again. First time around I had to use a friend to blow her up before she started handing out BP like candy. Might just end up having to do that again.

Considering giving up on Kingdom Hearts 1.5 after my 25th attempt to defeat Ursula with absolutely no luck. The battle is 10x harder than I remember it being. The movement is completely illogical; you try to swim one direction and go a completely different direction, and the gazillion lightning bolts can pretty much stun-lock you into oblivion. Oh yeah, you're warned about a tenth of a second before they strike so at least the game gives you a leg up there.
Don't give up! As I recall the cheesy way to beat her is to get behind her head, stay there as long as possible, and just wail on her as she can't hit you there. Speaking of which.....and yeah she was harder than I remembered her being. You could also try gaining a few levels.

So game funded with 1.1 million pounds. A respectable amount. In the end I went up to a sword pledge. Conversion rate might be brutal, but I discovered that the cost is about the same as the cost of genuinely forged sword so w/e.

Just got conjurer last night and finally grinded level 14 in all jobs. Now to finish up one more side quest and then on to chapter....8? I've somewhat forgotten the chapter number at this point. x_x

Bravely Default:

Just about to start Chapter 3 and I'm sort of nervous since a lot of folks on here talked about almost missing various side quests in this chapter, so I'm going to be extra careful. Kind of sad to be leaving Florem, as that has been my favorite music in the game so far. I'm not a fan of the town's  themselves though, they feel more like small set pieces rather than towns. Nice to look at, but not very interesting. I will also say that the difference just two or three levels makes in this game is astounding.
If you follow the blue markers, the only one you can miss is the pirate one as there is no blue marker for the end of it. So once you have triggered the conversation about the ghost ship, go north of Grandship and night and enter fog.
252  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gen6: Pokemon X & Y on: February 19, 2014, 06:43:20 AM
Spent all of yesterday and today moving ~800 Pokemon from SS and W and W2 to X. Phew.

However, I was unable to move my Shaymin or Jirachi. I guess they were hacked (?), though I'm sure I got the Shaymin at an event... oh well. Anyway, does anyone have either of these Pokemon? I have everything else, so I can trade you almost anything in return. I have all legendaries for trade (excluding Celebi, Mew, Deoxys and Genesect, Xerneas - only have 1 of each), plus a Shiny versions of Dialga, Palkia and Giratina I can part with. Oh, I could also use an Yveltal. Already have it registered in my Dex, but would like one to keep.
Have you managed to get these three?
253  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Bravely Default: Flying Fairy on: February 19, 2014, 06:41:39 AM
Got the normal ending last night. Knew who the villain was, but wasn't expecting.....what the villain became. Probably should have expected it considering the last page of the enigmatic writings (which begs the question of how that is in there). Now on to continue the plot! Side note: Triggering the normal ending is a pain in the rear. I ended up having to just slide my finger over repeatedly just to get my button pressing fast enough to trigger the stupid scenes.

Tiz is more of a  self-insert character, really.  I don't think he's supposed to have a lot of personality.

bleh worst type of characters.

Down with silent protagonists for this same reason.

Compared to the other characters, by the mid point of Chapter 4, Tiz has only 7 pages in the Journal compared to Agnés, Ringabel, and Edea who have 11, 13, and 12 pages respectfully, and most of those are about stuffs that went down in the Caldis region way back in the Prologue.

In other words, yeah, he's pretty much kinda just there.
But him and Agnes are deeply and truly in love!.....*gags* (In case you couldn't tell, I hate this romance.)

So Monday's Shonen Jump, World Trigger was great. The writer has definitely thought out the implications of his setting on the combat strategies that would be appropriate in this world. And that makes the series really stand out to me. I'm very curious as to the invading forces goal now. Part of me seems to think they are after Chika, but that is way too small. I'm sure the new unit will play some role soon.

I'm torn on Bleach this week. On one hand it makes last week less stupid. On the other hand, Rukia once again fails to be useful which is triggering my gender sociology senses. On my foot however, anything that wraps Bleach up faster is good, so getting opportunities to reveal w/e stupid stuff Kubo wants is a good thing as it hopefully means he won't drag the series out later to include it later. So I guess I liked the chapter?

All you need is kill was interesting. Nothing else really worth mentioning in this week's issue.

Whee in chapter 5. I'm thinking I am going to grind my class levels up a bit and then go for the "normal" ending.
