241  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New 3DS Fire Emblem Fates on: February 25, 2016, 06:24:12 AM
So took the day off yesterday (new refrigerator, yay) and made some major progress in Conquest. I feel like the story is better than people have been implying it to be. There are certainly weak points, but nothing horrible yet (except for maybe Azura's plan...I'm not 100% certain how I feel about that). I honestly don't think that Corrin's guilt for his choice has been too extreme, and frankly I find Corrin's lack of guilt in Birthright to be more of a flaw in Birthright rather than Conquest as he should be feeling more guilt over betraying all that he has ever known.

Side note, I do love how chapter 15
Code:
takes place in another world that is apparently at the bottom of a bottomless pit, and is likely never brought up again in Conquest. It is silly and probably a good hint as to what is to come in Revelations.

MBTI is kind of bonkers, as far as I can tell, introversion, intuition, feeling, and perceiving are all basically the same thing. Extroversion, thinking, judging, and sensing are all basically the same phenomenon.

The idea of duality though is probably more useful, these emotional elements compete with each other and manifest themselves in other people, etc.
Eh, as a card carrying INTJ, I don't think I can agree that those splits of the attributes are the same. I am certainly not an extrovert simply because I fall more along the lines of thinking and judging.

I'll let you know how I react to people trying to flirt with me as soon as I'm in that situation...

...'cause that's like, never actually happened.
Seconded. :(

Beyond 3rd Zero and Blue, there are full HD remakes with additional content for these games, as well as for FC/SC ... yes? No? Falcom produced at a rate faster than XSEED could localize and publish. That's why we have Cold Steel and a confirmation of Cold Steel 2 when SnK 3rd is still floating in the aether (granted, I'm told it's not a great entry in the series).
There are enhanced ports of FC/SC, but those were not done by Falcom. I don't remember all the details regarding them, but the short version is that Falcom licensed the games out to another studio which ported them and added full voice overs to them. I don't think there was any content change in terms of story or sidequests. I know there were some tweaks to the battle system which made it very abusable. Specifically, I recall there was a turn effect (or w/e those are called) which allowed you to use crafts for free, so you break into those turns, and use an S-craft for free and then repeat whenever the effect was coming up.

I would not expect the enhanced ports to ever make it over since the voice acting budget would make it unprofitable for XSeed.

^ Dude, it's practically over already. :(
Dammit. Oh well, I'll manage somehow or another. >.>

Beat Birthright last night. Game was fun. Story was fine. A lot of minor stuff that is unexplained. Looking forward to trying out the other two paths to see what their takes on the story are. Looking forward to Revelations more since it will have explanations to the minor unexplained stuff (I say as though I haven't been spoiled already). But first, female Birthright exclusive supports! Hopefully I can speed run this using my overpowered amiibo units from my logbook.

I am so annoyed that I got this on Day 1 and I STILL have no frickin' clue what Aeolus and Ranadiel are talking about.  It's Xenoblade X all over again.  *sigh*

BUT I WILL LEARN!!!
Lol. DV=Dragon vein (point) for MyCastle. As for the prison that Aeolus was talking about, there are two units in the game (one per side) that have personal skills that allow them to capture enemy units and then deposit them in a prison that you can build in MyCastle. From there you can convince them to join you. There are a few enemies with unique portraits that you can capture (1 in a Birthright story map, 2 in Conquest story maps, and 10 in child paralogues).

Agent Carter has been amazing as well, if anyone is watching that.  Probably the best show Marvel has ever put out.  Every single episode is a treat.
Wait season 2 has started? Fudge, I need catch up then.

My Progress thus far:

And now I'm going to run Invasion 1 instead of Chapter 14 (because I want to recruit the boss and I'm fresh out of DVs for a Prison).
My plan continues.
You know you can just visit castles to gain DVs. I don't know the exact conversion rate because I sort of zone out while doing it, but it is like 4 or 5 unique visits per DV.

Sounds like you are currently one chapter ahead of me as I am about to go through chapter 13. I'm really starting to notice that about half of my units just are not getting enough exp resulting in them falling further and further behind. Oh just occurred to me that I am probably about the right level for the amiibo battles. Time to go recruit me some new units!

In case anyone cares, my castle address is:
05716-36726
89066-76229

Current castle has peaches and quartz.

See now, I was always under the impression that XS2 was the major misstep and 3 was a step up from it.
That's because 2 was a massive shitfest in terms of gameplay. The battle system was so fucking terrible in every regard that any fondness I had for the game (mind you I LOVED 1 and 3, big fan of the entirety of xenosaga) will always be plagued by it. Also, the change in shion's VA was kind of shit. Otherwise, 2's story was still fairly xeno-esque...guess that's a positive.
Yeah this sounds about right to what I remember from XS2. Additionally I was not a fan of the Shion redesign in XS2.

XS3 is on my List, since I got a copy (and a PS2!) gifted to me.  I'm wondering what kind of experience I can expect from it...
Assuming you have not played XS1 or XS2, I think the most accurate description of what your experience will be is confused. I don't recall how much of a recap there is at the beginning of XS3, but I have a hard time believing it is possible to do a recap that covers everything and isn't ridiculously long and/or confusing.
250  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Is your favorite RPG in one of the first five you tried? on: February 16, 2016, 06:54:36 AM
No. My favorite RPG is Ar Tonelico, which I 'm pretty sure was somewhere in the 40s or later in terms of play order.

At this point I really don't remember my first 5 RPGs. My first was Breath of Fire, which was probably followed by Breath of Fire 2. Not sure where I went from there.

That would be great, and goodness knows I have the cash.  But I have no level 30 characters.
Well you can still pre-emptively buy one...not really a point in doing so since you have to go back to the barracks after hitting level 30 to assign it to someone. Oh well at least your path is clear now. Level grind to level 30! :p

Finished Danganronpa. Or at least as far as I know I've finished Danganronpa, not sure if there's some kind of secret ending or not.

I liked it. In fact, I liked it a lot. The characters were all fantastic, and the plot, while not quite the mind-fuck that is the Zero Escape lore, was interesting enough to keep me hooked. In fact, it's going to be difficult to finish up some other games before jumping into Danganronpa 2.
The only "secret" endings are if you choose a specific wrong option in the second to last chapter (which gives you a CG and movie for your gallery and then boots you back to the choice) and a non-canon video you get in the gallery if you get a specific item from the vending machine.

Got my first Skell!  Already wrecked it once, in an epic battle against a Tyrant wherein he destroyed my Skell, I ejected, and proceeded to kill him on foot, with my fallen comrades laying around me.

Of course, I couldn't enjoy the victory, because some level 45 random monster nearby had aggroed me, so I just died right after.

I'm really scared to take my Skell into another dangerous battle like that.  I notice I only have 3 more "insurance", so... blah.  Let me tell you, though, that extra mobility is NICE.
As a side note, you should try and buy a level 30 Skell as soon as you can because the free one is a level 20 and the level 30s all outclass it.
254  Media / General Games / Re: Games so good you got sad when it was over on: February 10, 2016, 07:00:38 AM
A recent example for me was Trails of Cold Steel. Perhaps that is less the "game was good" and more "I need to know what happens next!" Damn cliffhanger ending. I need 2 to come out!

Probably had the same reaction to Trails in the SKy, but that was years ago, so I barely remember at this point.

On the topic of localization decisions, I have been hearing rumblings that the localization has been trying to make the paths a bit more equal. For example Corrin is apparently a bit more confident and a bit less guilt trippy on the Nohr route than he was in the Japanese version.
