There are a lot of areas in the game in where they seem to be a path but is closed, so I can imagine them using of those spots for the DLC. But it would be kinda random to do.

Also a quick question: Did anyone know if the Pendant does something? Is one of the gifts that you can choose when you create your character and you can also get it from a certain NPC. I do know that you can trade the Pendant with Snuggly to get one Souvenir of Reprisal but it has some use other than that?

i can think of a few places that they could add stuff but as much as i love the game i can't imagine where they'd go with it. it might have been nice if the valley of the drakes had something more going on.

the official guide only gives a clue about trading for the pendant. if it means something more than birdgirl that'd be nice.

i can't imagine this is true. how would you add to it without it seeming slapped on? unless they were bluffing when they said they weren't planning dlc from the beginning. i guess we'll see...

@Grim: On your point about Demon and Dark Souls... I'm not trying to come across as arrogant, but I didn't find them overly hard. They're certainly challenging, but I eventually did get through each area or beat each boss. It really just comes down to sticking with it and learning from your mistakes. I personally found that fun and I don't think I jumped on the bandwagon.

Having said that, I didn't like Dark Souls anywhere near as much as I loved Demon's Souls.

i would concur with everything save the last sentence i'd say i like demon's souls just slightly more.

HIJACKIN' YOUR PODCAST FOR OTHER PODCAST!

Just wanted to let Random Encounter fans know that the most recent episode of my tiny podcast, "The Jurassic Hour," is now up. It's 90 minutes of me interviewing John McCarroll (RPGFan EiC) and Michael Cunningham (RPGamer EiC). Makes for an interesting discussion.

Link:

i just finished listening to this jurassic hour and i really liked the end where john and micheal talk about the p.r. issues and review scores. i found that really interesting being the layman. it's really easy to take you guys for granted dealing with the bullshit. i just wanna say thanks for posting to a show i wouldn't have normally listened to. and thanks to john in general cause it sounds rather thankless and i really appreciate this site. i would like to add that i like the way the review scores work on the site that's why i was drawn to the site from the beginning. the reviews i've read seem very fair.

i'm excited to listen to the year end wrap up show, hope it's up soon.

you know i just watched a video, vaguely about the other ending and i realized in the abyss
Code:
there is an npc so that makes sense now. i missed that covenant too. i'd still like to walk out of those pits for sake of fast travel
i need to play though at least a second time to take in the things i missed. for now though i'm going to try to finish some other games in the backlog before kingdoms of amalur and xenoblade steal my life during my work season.

i'd like to platinum out dark and demon souls but farming gets a little tedious.

i wonder if i found that wall in sen's fortress...

You can't actually enter the Gravelord Nito fight/area without the Lordvessel. There would be a giant orange fog gate blocking the path. It shows four of these gates disappearing in a brief cutscene when you get (or is it place?) the Lordvessel.

The gravelord stuff was another player in the gravelord covenant cursing your world. It spawns super tough red phantom versions of enemies in 3 players' worlds and drops a soul sign that prompts invading that gravelord player's world. Killing said player will put an end to it. I'm not sure on anything more specific than that, and I hear that it's kind of buggy.

I've been playing this a lot lately. I killed Gravelord Nito myself just last night, but haven't defeated any of the others of the final four bosses quite yet. Tomb of the Giants is certainly made easy with the Cast Light spell.

that cutscene was so quick i only made out the dukes archives gate. but that still doesn't make warping back to those areas useful.

i guess what i'm saying about the gravelord thing is i had no idea it was a covenant thing at first. the vocabulary used had me confused. i didn't know what had changed in the first playthrough. i wouldn't have known i could directly invade them back either. i geuss i'm left with a poor understanding of how all the covenants work. i missed the gravelord covenant so that might explain my confusion a little.

yeah i had to get cast light to fully explore. i got sick of running from the bonfire in the catacombs only to accidentally fall off a cliff or whatever i couldn't see stabinating me.

i killed gravelord nito on monday. there is something awesome about killing babies for humanity. killed ceaseless discharge today. with all the humanity from killing babies i just went around and kindled every bonfire i saw to the max. i got invaded by a lightning spear spammer and i was slaughtered but with all this humanity who cares? i'm having a good time.

edited to note:

i finally beat my first play though yesterday. my final thoughts are there could've been a little more polish thrown on. when i beat gravelord nito i realized that had i not had the lordvessel and rested at the bonfire you'd be screwed there is no way out of the pit. the gravelord pit and the abyss are warp points too why would you wanna warp back there after the fact? well... maybe you missed something in the gravelord pit, but the abyss? if there were a way out aside from the lordvessel it'd make more sense to me. i got a few notes pop up like "disasters are gone after the death of the gravelord servant" i never had any idea what the hell that meant till new game plus were all of a sudden there were red dudes everywhere and soon as the note popped up they were gone. the other thing i'd like is to see better connection for multiplayer.  i think if there were a souls-like genre i'd help smooth out the wrinkles

BACK TO DARK SOULS

Kayin, the guy who made I Wanna Be The Guy, wrote this piece on Dark Souls. I like what he said about the world design and how it handles story.
i need to get back to dark souls i took a break to watch six seasons of "lost"

i really liked the article. especially the criticisms/improvements part. i'd love to have a talk about this quote and follow up comment.

kayin: "Perhaps from From Software, perhaps from future clones like Dragon Dogma that might truly establish these conventions as a genre. If they do, it will be a victory for gaming in general."

@Kayin Thanks for the mention in the post btw! I canít really argue with what you said, although I will definitely try to make some kind of in-depth response about the last bit of your post involving the untapped potential for this kind of game format, because itís something that gets on my mind a lot. Thereís a huge missing link between Demon/Dark Souls and other modern games, and somewhere in that unexplored space is a revolutionary game that I very much hope will be realized.

i'd love if there were a "souls-like" sub-genre to hone this style a little. i'm not sure if dragon's dogma is quite a "soul's-like" but i'll be pleased if it's close.

has anyone played this game for IOS? i'm not sure if it's on android. it's kind of a point and click adventure game with beautiful (for pixelated) graphics, amusing dialog and a great soundtrack. i played this afternoon till the battery got low. worth my five bucks so far.
191  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Walking Dead Season 2 on: December 30, 2011, 08:36:46 PM
I just realized a couple days ago that it was coming up this Sunday. I'm looking forward to it, but with tempered expectations. Unlike a lot of people, I was not happy with the show by the end of the 6 episode run. It started out great, then went downhill from there. Hopefully, someone has a clear vision as to where to go with this, and knocks it out of the park. We'll see.

Well considering Frank Darabont fired the whole writing staff and then he got fired by the network while having the budget slashed and told to film indoors because it's cheaper I'm a little worried about the whole thing. It's certainly possible for this season to be amazing and I really hope it is, there's still a lot of good people working on the show so I have my fingers crossed.

i was okay with the first season even though it wasn't exactly the same as the comic. the second season kinda felt like there was a lot of filler and strayed even further from the comic. looking for sophia till the end of the season and the monologs in the church got on my nerves. andrea is obnoxious. i was sorta bummed they didn't follow comic scene for scene at first but i just reread the first 8 trades and there is definitely some things i can understand changing. on the one hand i'm thinking why would you rewrite a good thing? on the other hand i think, well at least the comic won't be a spoiler in the sense of story. i'm trying to just watch it for what it is now but it's hard. this i s why i try to watch movies first then read the book.

a few weeks back i put some french fries in the oven, put on the first episode. i was so entranced that only when it was done an hour later i remembered the fries. they were so black they looked like charcoal. the first ten episodes are super good, i can't wait for more. i'm so glad there is hulu so i can watch shows like this cause i'd miss them for sure otherwise.

Looks like yet another zombie apocalypse game. Ah well, if its good then why not. I'm expecting an open(ish) world Uncharted game. Also, the chick reminds me of Ellen Page for some reason.

i'm thinking the same thing on the ellen page thing. they said it on weekend confirmed and then i saw the trailer and even the voice actress sounds like her. i haven't been playing any of the zombie titles or uncharted games so i'm not really burnt out on the likes of either.

i hope that i can still find a copy. should've bought the new copy when i had the chance.

You can find it on Amazon. Some their sellers still carry new copies with the artbook and poster. The game is too good to pass up and its very good.

just picked up a new copy at gamestop for 20 bucks... now if i could just finish some games instead of padding the backlog i'd be doing something.
