16  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Phantasy Star vs. Shining Force on: April 01, 2013, 12:22:57 AM
Two Sega RPG's that I have yet to play and was curious to see the communities opinions on both series of games. I have Sega Genesis Collection on PS2 which includes Phantasy Star 2,3,4 but I found out that Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on Xbox 360 has the Shining Force games and was wondering if it's worth it to get that collection just for the shining force games. They look a lot like the Fire Emblem games which is a good thing

Dragon Age Origins is really fun so far though....I'm liking these things called western RPG's haha

It was a joke in bad taste I apologize. A gamestop employee would never give a customer a brand new copy of a game from behind the counter to walk around the store with (I use to be an employee at one). They simply point to the wall of game boxes. I discussed this issue with certain moderator's and admins and this won't happen again....I still don't like gamestop though lol

So far I picked up two of the games. I picked up Dragon Age Origins and stole Deus Ex Human Revolution. both from Gamestop but different stores. I had Deus Ex Human Revolution but sold it for a stupid reason and got next to nothing for it....either that or traded it for something. Gamestop makes so much money anyway and I was pretty fucked up so I took a stack of Xbox 360 boxes and asked the guy if I could take a look at Deus Ex Human Revolution. He walked away from the counter saying it should be on the wall little did he know I had it in the stack of games I was holding. So he opened the draw with the game in it and let me look at the game with the disc in it. I pretending to look at all the boxes while more customers walked in and than just took the game with the disc in it and ran out. I had my car parked on the other side of the shopping center still running. They rob people everyday so fuck it man

I wonder why no one mentioned it. I thought it was a Playstation 3 exclusive and I even remember looking it up and seeing that but recently I looked the games up again and saw I think one of them is and the other is on both consoles as well as Windows PC so yeah I'll check those out

Why didn't anyone mention that game called dark something....I forget the name but I think namco made it. Even though it's a japanese company it seems like a western style game
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / I wanna play Growlanser Generations but I dont because of this persistant rumor on: March 23, 2013, 05:28:54 PM
the game has a blue bottom disc and the old rumor was the blue discs mess around with the lens of the console. Does anyone know if this was true or still is? I'm using a slim PS2. I mean I have so many other PSX and PS2 games that I could play that are regular. Yes I know the blue discs for PS2 are just CD's instead of DVD's. Does the PS2 have multiple lens one for CD's and PSX games and one for DVDs and PS2 games that switch when a certain disc is put into the console. Someone help thanks
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: So finished FFXII....onto The Legend of Dragoon on: March 23, 2013, 05:24:52 PM
Yeah this game was fun in the beginning really started to like it and the gameplay especially. Then my second disc wasn't working at a certain spot so I stopped until a friend let me borrow his copy of the game. Started playing again and it's getting kinda....not convoluted just dumb I guess is the word lol Especially after Dart looses his Dragoon gem thing and the party has to retrieve it. Then all the backtracking through previous visited dungeons....I mean why couldn't they let the character walk over them if he has already visited them. It's like walking along a very long line (Even though I liked FFXIII) the lenus fight just made it worse with her running away after the battle

My PC is a little old but can run the original Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare just fine. The only reason I said no PC games are because a lot of the "great" RPG's are a little older from at least the 90's and I don't want to buy them used because the whole CD key thing and I don't hack or use key generators or anything. Other reason is compatibility issues even though I'm using a Windows computer. I might have to change that little exception of PC games....
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Looking for some good western style RPG's (No elder scrolls games or PC games) on: March 20, 2013, 11:14:12 PM
I say western styled games because I'm pretty sure most users know that a Japanese company can make a western RPG and a North American company can make a Japanese style RPG. I don't necessarily like the terms jrpg and wrpg but anyway....I looked through my collection and noticed the only western RPG's I have are Mass Effect a couple of the Fable games and I think X-Men Legends on Gamecube lol. The systems I have to work with are Xbox 360 and Playstation 2. I never got into any of the elder scrolls games because I don't like how they don't have a huge emphasis on story and kind of leave the player off to do whatever they want instead of guiding the player through stages in the game. Correct this if it's wrong maybe I'll consider the games. Thanks
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Curious to see others opinions on Working Designs if it was a new company.... on: March 18, 2013, 10:09:42 PM
Basically does anyone think Working Designs would be as relevant as it is or have as many fans as it does if it was a new company that formed say within the last decade or so something along that. Reason being is that in my opinion their are a lot more publishers that seem to specialize in bringing strange Japanese titles to the US that end up becoming hits. Examples are Xseed and NIS for sure. The biggest one is probably Atlus which was probably the second company after Working Designs that started to do this. Don't get me wrong I definetely think that these companies were influenced by Working Designs even though it was a small company. these companies also seem to provide great localizations as well as packaging extras with the first releases of their games. There's no question that Working Designs was probably the first and they were around at a point in gaming where things like this just weren't normal and they were also appreciated by many people. Too bad the company is no more I'm curious as to what games they would have brought over
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Question about SMT Nocturne on: March 18, 2013, 10:02:37 PM
I've never played any of the SMT games even though most gamers talk about how great these games are. I did a little reading up on the series and found out that originally they started out as Megami Tensei and then later games became Shin Megami Tensei as they were created. What I gathered was that this was the main series and the Persona games seemed like a side story. I went to a Gamestop a few towns away and saw that they were still carrying PS2 games. One being this one and the other being Digital Devil Saga which I know is two games. I don't want to track down the other game and I rather start off trying out the series with a game in the main series as I also read that this is SMT 4 in the long line of games. I like more traditional RPG's not a super complicated story or gameplay elements. Also I doin't mind if they are random battle or turn based battles. I guess that's one of the reasons a Persona game never really appealed to me. I like simulation certain simulation games but this one controlling Japanese kids as they go through their regular routines with relationships and meeting other people didn't appeal to me at all. I didn't like the mix of simulation and RPG together as well as the whole setting of the game. Don't get me wrong I like modern games and games from this generation (not only old RPG's or RPG's with traditional gameplay elements) but there was just something about those games that didn't make me want to play and seemed like if I did buy it and playthrough it that it would be more of a chore than something fun to play. How does the main series compare are the simulation elements out of it or not
28  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Re: I need to borrow someone's Legend of Dragoon disc 2 on: March 16, 2013, 08:34:53 PM

29  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / I need to borrow someone's Legend of Dragoon disc 2 on: March 16, 2013, 08:07:50 PM
This game is known to give the PS2 a lot of problems when playing it. Basically I run into this part where the game fades out to a black screen and the music is still playing but it doesn't load up to the next scene. This happened on the first disc and I ended up buying another disc and than didn't have anymore problems. Then on disc 2 I'm running into the same problem. Cleaning it doesn't work as I've tried it already and I also tried to play it on another system. I don't need any advice on what to do because I know what to do and nothing works. If someone would be so kind as to send me their disc 2 just to get past this part I'll pay for shipping and also pay to ship it back. I probably won't even have it for a week I just need to get past the part, save and than continue to use my disc that I have already. I don't want to buy another extra disc and I don't really have the money even if it is around $20 thanks
