31  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Who has The Legend of Dragoon for PSX? on: March 16, 2013, 06:58:11 PM
Basically I need to ask something about the disc but I need to see if more people actually have the game
32  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Who has The Legend of Dragoon for PSX? on: March 16, 2013, 06:49:02 PM
A pretty common game but I'll know the answer if no one replies to the thread. Basically I already know the game runs horrible on the PS2 and especially the slim one. When I first started the game I couldn't even get up to controlling the main character before the game wouldn't load up. When moving from this certain scene the game would fade out to a black screen while the music still played but wouldn't load up to the next part. I cleaned the disc and even tried it on another PS2 to no avail. I ended up purchasing another disc 1. Not a whole nother game just a disc. I had no problems and got to the second disc and again same problem. No it is not a battle or anything or a boss because I know their's is a pretty bad glitch on the 2nd disc. Basically what I'm asking the community is it someone would lend me their disc 2 I'll even pay for shipping just because this is super frustrating and I don't really have the funds to buy this game again even if it's only around $20. I'll pay for shipping if people are really mistrusting I guess they can make a mark on their disc that only they will see or know where it is. Even though I won't switch the discs and send the other one back. I have a feeling it's the PS2 even though I've tried another system. If someone could help I'd really appreciate it thanks
33  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Round 5: Secret of Mana vs Kingdom Hearts on: March 13, 2013, 09:56:57 PM
Yeah I enjoyed the first Kingdom Hearts and the second along with Chain of Memories the others are haven't even played and when I look at story explanations it's all over the place so much that I'm not even interested. That coupled with the characters going through the same worlds as the first games except for maybe a few differences kind of confuses me how the series is still so popular with fans talking about how great the newer games are. What made the first game great was just how simple the gameplay and story were while still being serious and entertaining all at once. The game never took itself too seriously which was also great because their are Disney worlds in it so it all makes sense. With the second game they started too become serious and besides that it was too long with having too see all the worlds again and the gameplay started to become repetitive with all the combos it was all just button mashing. I still liked the game though because it did add a lot of new worlds and characters and wasn't as serious as all the side stories coming out

I still don't understand why so many people like Secret of Mana lol. Is it just because they possibly played it when they were young maybe. I didn't even though I have the original cartridge I was thinking of playing it on the virtual console. I could care less about the co op gameplay but even the single player gameplay I kind of like because it keeps it from being a button masher. I enjoyed Secret of Evermore when I played through that game and people seem to rate that game far behind

The purpose of these threads are for one myself to see other people's opinions on the games listed, which for one are not the most common games to be compared. (They are not FFVI vs FFVII threads) I try to pick some games that might have a little bit in common but wouldn't neccessarily be compared for any reason and also games that aren't talked about too much. I would understand if their was a Star Ocean vs. Tales thread to be called a repeat but, for example the DQ3 and FF3 thread both games are from the same generation of gaming, both from the two biggest RPG series and also have some gameplay similarities like the job system and both games also aren't know for having exactly epic stories. I was very interested and delighted to see the responses because they were both in depth and I had no idea about either of the games honestly. That's another thing I don't always weigh in on the games because some of them I want to find out more of them. Also if you're gonna complain about the thread don't post in it. By the responses in the other threads other users seem to like them. Also this week's thread I couldn't really think of two games to compare and I was actually thinking of making a final round thread but after this I'm going to continue making them lol

Just got on to the second disc and so far this game is awesome. Their is something about it....I mean the story is not complicated which I like and the gameplay is just so fun. I think one of the problems with RPG's of this generation and the last one is that they try to make themselves so complicated that either I have no idea what's going on or they try to be so original and different that it's just dumb. Both gameplay and story wise and the games of the playstation generation and before it were just great. The game so far isn't too difficult except for some boss fights but the game isn't too easy it's a nice balance
37  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Round 5: Secret of Mana vs Kingdom Hearts on: March 13, 2013, 08:59:18 PM
Two Action RPG's from the same developer that don't take themselves two seriously. (The first Kingdom Hearts) The later games started to go all over the place and weren't as good in my opinion. I was surprised at so many people in the RPG community talking about how great Secret of Mana is compared to other games released on the SNES. I haven't beaten the game but played a decent amount of it waiting for the epic story to start or the plot twists to come about only to be disappointed and read that they never come about in the game. With these games I'm gonna have to go with Kingdom Hearts just because I think the game is more fun gameplay wise while neither are button mashers I like the enviornments better in this game
38  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Kinda technical question (Playstation) on: March 04, 2013, 08:15:57 PM
I wasn't sure where to post this but was just curious how long does the average sony made Playstation 1 controller last? I have a red PSone controller that worked fine this week until all of a sudden the "X" button stops working for the most part. (Need to press really hard and multiple presses for it to work) I thought it was possibly the game (The Legend of Dragoon) but I tried using it just on the sony menu and had the same problem. The controller looks like its in great shape and I've had it for a while. Also do all PS1 games played on a PS2 work with PS2 controllers? Because I'm using a PS2 controller because of this problem.

I see where they tried to make FF12 different in the story department as in not focusing so much on character development and love stories, drama, etc.... The problem is that's what I like in a Final Fantasy game. The story wasn't horrible it just felt distant I guess and the lack of Vaan really being a driving force in the game once in a while left me with a what the heck am I playing this for kind of attitude. For me the game was more difficult towards the beginning and middle than I would say once the party reaches the empire wasn't as tough. I only slightly prefer this one over X kind of like as my favorites I slightly prefer VI over IX those two are both great games but there was just something about the former that I liked a little better. That being said the same can be applied to X and XII I l disliked X more than XII I guess it could be put. The story also confused me at points and then the whole humans taking their own destiny without the help of those other things didn't make sense really. What was that one who was helping out the empire benefiting from doing that. The whole nethicite thing and manufactured nethicite just kept going on and on at points
40  Media / Single-Player RPGs / So finished FFXII....onto The Legend of Dragoon on: March 03, 2013, 10:12:05 PM
So I finished Final Fantasy XII and I actually thought the game started to get better towards the end unlike every other entry in the series, which in my opinion tend to drag on towards the end. I probably liked this game more than X but again thought it was a good RPG but only a decent Final Fantasy game as I tend to hold the series on higher standards. (Not on purpose I guess it's just from playing the older games as well as other squaresoft games). Not saying that Final Fantasy is the greatest RPG and all games aspire to the quality that these games bring because I've been pleasantly surprised with other games that are some of my favorites (Lunar series, Fire Emblem). After I completed the game I decided to start The Legend of Dragoon which I've had for a while just haven't really played. I've read mixed things about this game from "Greatest RPG ever" to "Many cliches not worth playing" So far I can see horrible localization by Sony which is surprising because it looked like they tried to cash in on the genre while it was probably at its peak as far as popularity and spent a lot of money on it. There's voice acting which wasn't the norm back than and the graphics are probably top notch. It's just almost too obvious Sony's inexperience with the genre because I've read they hired a huge team to work on the game and it kept getting delayed but it's just kinda bland so far. I'm not that far into the game even yet. Kind of just looking for opinions on the game and also things that were good and bad in people's opinions about it. I read the review if that means anything lol
41  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Round 4: Dragon Quest III vs. Final Fantasy III on: March 03, 2013, 09:58:46 PM
For this week's "vs" thread I decided to pick two games from two very well known series but probably more of the lesser played games of each games respective series' For FFIII It can be either the Famicom or the DS version. I'm curious to known people's opinions on these two early Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games especially with both games having the job system in them
42  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Round 3: Advance Wars vs. Fire Emblem on: February 24, 2013, 10:58:09 PM
Two of Intelligent Systems most popular series' but which one is better? Both games are very similar in their style and I wasn't really sure what to do on this one. Firstly, because of what I just mentioned both games are very similar and secondly I wasn't sure weather or not to keep it to the first games of the series (The ones released in NA) or choose a certain game from each series and compare them. So I'm gonna leave it up to the posters to either just compare the the first GBA releases, choose another game from the series, or compare the entire series' as a whole. What I'm gonna do is just go with the first Fire Emblem as my choice. This game is amazing it is one of the only strategy RPG's I like and I played and re played this game so much. I remember after beating Lyn's story and starting Eliwood's story seeing the great storytelling this game offered and was really amazed at how big the game was. I really enjoyed every aspect of it from the characters, to the extra missions. Just when I thought I completed the game and was done with it Hector mode becomes unlocked and the awesome gameplay starts from the beginning once more. The Translation was great and the class upgrades were really fun. I also found the difficulty to be just about right and the characters not being able to come back once they were taken out in battle really helping the balance of the difficulty. All in all this game is great and in my opinion is the best one to come out still. I enjoyed it more than the sacred stones and the path of radiance although those were also great games.
43  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: 3DS Monolith Soft Game? on: February 18, 2013, 10:59:22 AM
So does Nintendo own Monolith soft or not? If so would that mean it would be considered a second party developer or something like that (I guess kind of like Intelligent Systems) Also does that mean Nintendo owns the characters in any Monolith Soft game like Xenoblade for example
44  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Round 2: Disgaea Hour of Darkness vs. Final Fantasy Tactics on: February 18, 2013, 10:52:42 AM
Seeing how the last "vs" topic became a little popular, got a few pages of responses and some good discussions going I figured I'd make another one. Maybe I'll make one once a week but we'll see how popular they are. If they start to go downhill than I'll ditch the whole idea but for this weeks "vs" thread I'm gonna compare Disgaea Hour of Darkness with Final Fantasy Tactics (the original one) Reason being they are both cherished games by many people and probably two of the most popular tactical strategy RPG's in the genre so discuss same rules apply as the last thread.
45  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Feelings towards FAQ's and guides on: February 18, 2013, 10:46:30 AM
Wow....didn't expect so many people that were all for using guides. I mean playing a second playthrough or trying to 100% a game is one thing but just going through a game for a first playthrough is different in my opinion I don't know I guess that's just how I feel about that
