46  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Feelings towards FAQ's and guides on: February 17, 2013, 11:46:21 PM
Just curious about how some people feel about using strategy guides while going through an RPG. For me I dislike it a lot I think part of the fun of playing an RPG is going through the game without any help and figuring out things for your self not to be told what to do. I also feel kind of really unhappy like I'm doing something wrong when I really just can't figure something out and have to turn to an FAQ for help. Especially if it was something obvious. For example, while playing Final Fantasy XII in order to enter this certain city I had to summon belias and it opened the door. There were no clues at all for that. Also before that there were these little like huts that when the character moved around one of the entrances showed an illusion of a forest and you had to walk through there. Once the player did that nothing happened. The player had to go to 3 or 4 other huts and do the same thing before arriving at that door which would just appear out of nowhere and the player had to summon belias to open the door. I would have never figured that out. But I'm getting a little off topic here. I've felt I guess so unhappy and pissed at certain games so much that I've started them over just to go through the parts I did look for help for without it. I guess if someone is going through the game a second playthrough or trying to complete everything in the game thats different, but generally I really dislike using any type of guide for RPG's in general and stuff

I myself do own both games but unfortunately haven't gotten very far in either of them. I can't really judge the games but I would have to say I like Rogue Galaxy better so far just based on gameplay

The second one so maybe 75% done

Been thinking about making a few threads like this for a while. Basically taking two games that have either similar themes, gameplay mechanics, storylines or any other similarity that might make someone think of both of them. For this thread I'm comparing the top two games. Even though their gameplay is very different from one another they have similar themes and both have many side quests. Discuss which game you like better and why maybe give some reasons. I'll see how this thread works out otherwise I'll just scrap it and won't make any more game comparisons.

Whoa....wasn't looking to start a whole argument about the series or the game. The main question was trying to find out how far I was in the game. I'm in the middle of that forest just defeated a boss and am heading south so far. Maybe 80% done with the main game not sure
51  Media / Single-Player RPGs / So Final Fantasy XII.... on: February 08, 2013, 10:44:52 PM
Not so good....Playing through this game I get the same feeling as I did with X as in it's just not a Final Fantasy quality game. I thought X was a decent RPG but not up to the Final Fantasy standards which I hold to a higher degree. So far XII is worse and I just got up to the capital finally after doing so many hunts and a lot of training. About how far through the game am I percentage wise?  Possibly 70% maybe less maybe more? That's basically my question and by the way this seems like a very long game. By the way my personal top 5 are

VI
IX
VII
IV
XIII

Yeah....the number 5 spot might seem kind of surprising but I played a lot if it and really enjoyed the gameplay. Again, more than X and a lot more than XII. The number 5 spot might be tied with the first game in the series which I enjoyed but so far I'll leave it like that.

Too bad the Wii version probably isn't gonna come out here. I don't understand why Namco wouldn't release all the Tales games that have been released on the DS so far in the US since Tales of Symphonia was the best selling Tales game. I remember Nintendo fans really liking that game and the others possibly could sell really good here compared to the PS2 games they keep bringing over that have a lot more competition.

I haven't been playing this much but I finally wanna just get through this game and be done with it. The first 5 chapters were fun and honestly this was the first dragon quest game I played for a while even though I have all of them. I liked the game but I wanna get on to Xenoblade Chronicles or Deus Ex Human Revolution either one of those or Pokemon White Version or finish the last boss on Super Mario RPG a game that first got me into the genre and playing only once a while ago had a lot of fun going through it again good game

Is their a lot of level grinding towards this part of the game? My characters are around level 38 and with the regular dungeons I'm not really having too much of a problem. (I mean my characters take a decent amount of damage each battle and require healing) but I win the battles without much of a problem. The two bosses named after chinese food are really tough so I figured I'd level up to around level 42 but damn are the battles slow and boring and it takes so long to gain a level. Really getting frustrated with this

Word I actually beat the game a while ago but stopped playing at the extra chapter. I really think the game ended great at chapter 5 and that extra one was not neccessary but it doesn't seem to be that long so what the heck mind as well give it a try. I don't remember being able to buy those items in shops though and another question yggdrasil dew that item comes in handy also but is their any way to get more of those or nah thanks
57  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Dragon Quest 4 DS quick question regarding items in the game on: January 03, 2013, 05:19:31 PM
I just recently completed Final Fantasy VI Advance and went back to this game. I'm on the extra chapter once the game is beaten and was wondering are their any items that restore MP during battle because I'm pretty sure I had to use some during the last boss thanks

I did everything I said I was gonna do and I'm at the end. The one thing I don't like about this game is for some reason after everything optional is done and barely running from any battles my characters are still only in the level 30's a little too weak for the final dungeon so at this point some serious training has to happen which is so boring....sucks
59  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Games for the holidays possibly.... on: December 24, 2012, 01:31:37 AM
I didn't know what to ask for so I basically told a few people to get me gift cards or cash. Then when it became closer to the actual date I started looking around and decided that I wanted a couple of games. First was gonna give Deux Ex Human Revolution a try never played any of those games and also Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii I'm kinda curious at how hard that game is to get these days. I'm pretty sure I need another nunchuck for wii and I was looking at Zelda and FFXIII-2 also but all the Zelda bundles are so expensive online. Damnit I also need new tires for my car don't know if I'll have enough cash lol. How about the Zelda bundles are they still around in stores or not so much anymore

Decided to go through my favorite game once more. Funny thing is I've started and went through the game a lot but only completed it once. That was a while ago and I used a guide to get absolutely everything. This playthrough's a little different I'm already mostly through the world of ruin but I'm not going to use a guide to get everything or use the coliseum that much to get weapons. Don't plan on defeating the 8 dragons and some other optional side quests. Mostly just getting all the characters and most of the magicite and the question is how hard does one think the final dungeon and boss will be with just doing these.
