I'm not gonna lie to you, Marge....I fucking love this game.

Quit smoking two years ago. One of the best things I ever did. I really like having that extra 200 bucks every month.

Not like it matters. It's just going to pay off dental bills anyway.
18  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Your First Ebay Purchase... on: January 24, 2012, 01:24:57 PM
Mine first, and to date, only eBay purchase was Metallica's Garage Days Re-Revisited CD. Garage Inc had already been out for a few years by then, so I already had the songs, but this was back in my rabid fanboy days, and it was one of those cool things that I really just HAD to have.

Cost me $45 bucks. Apart from a slight crease in the CD booklet, it was in pretty good condition. I think I bought it from some dude in Toronto.

Well, if it gets picked up for a second season....and it hopefully will, because there has been plenty of time to work on it (I remember reading posts from Jordan Rudess' Twitter from a few years ago where he was talking about being interviewed for this project)....then we could very well see a death metal episode.

Or it could just be wishful thinking on my part.

So. No GWAR. No GG Allin. And I still, for the life of me, can't figure out why the hell Slipknot was in this episode. And....while I solidly agree that they do belong in the death metal category....where the hell was Cannibal Corpse in this episode? You would think that a band who has been banned in that many countries JUST for their album art would be allowed their due.

Gonna be watching the entire season of Hell on Wheels today while I work on shit around the house. Caught the first episode way back when and was inclined to like it, but I haven't had time to watch the rest.

So, hooray for DVR, eh?

If GWAR is not in the next episode in some capacity, then Sam Dunn can fuck all the way off.

Fortunately, Oderus has been featured already in this series, so I have some hope. :)

Romans go home!
Hail Caesar! Now write it out a hundred times. And if it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your balls off.
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: DO you Get 100% in every Rpg? on: January 18, 2012, 05:16:51 AM
Only thing I ever strive for 100% are things I really dig. Certain bands, authors, comics....and RPGs. Every single one of them? Holy fucking Christ on a cracker, NO! I just don't have that much time, and if you're going to convince me to invest the amount of time I need to get 100%, you had better be pretty goddamned special.
24  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Worst Final Fantasy game (No online games) on: January 18, 2012, 05:12:39 AM
Okay, so a metric fuckton of people seem to vigorously dislike Final Fantasy VIII.

I am not one of those people. I actually am completely indifferent to the game. It's not my favorite, I played it once out of loyalty to the series and never gave it a second thought after that. I don't consider it to be a bad game, just a game that didn't hold my interest. To those of you out there who like it....awesome!

No, I'm not being snarky, I really do mean that.

Oh Fred. Whatever would we do without you?

I liked the episode, again, more than I thought I would. It didn't resolve anything for me, I still don't like nu-metal (apart from Deftones), I don't understand where the hell the genre came from, how it got so popular, or any of that, but it was an interesting episode. I was also rather surprised at how kind of NERDY Wes Borland looks when he doesn't have all of that weird body paint on!

And I'm confused as to how in the hell Pantera ended up in this episode. Okay. The groove thing. Not enough, in my mind, to establish them as a progenitor of the nu-metal scene. They always felt more Slayer than Korn to me. The Sepultura bit with Roots definitely makes sense, though. There were quite a few elements on Chaos A.D. that one could cite as an influence as well. One thing that did stand out for me was the Tom Morello interview, where he explains how he came up with his ideas for playing guitar in Rage and the notion of using the guitar to act as the DJ in the band. Really cool, interesting, and informative.

Also found the comparison between Woodstock '99 and Altamont to be almost frighteningly apt, and I did not find Durst's little explanation of what he thought he was trying to accomplish with his antics satisfactory in the least. It felt like he very begrudgingly owned up to being the guy who fornicated the canine when it came to that festival. And I'm just as interested as you, Dincrest, about why Slipknot is getting put into the shock rock episode. I never thought that their particular gimmick was for shock value.

Tool, I think, is probably going to end up in the prog episode. Just a hunch.
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long do you play an RPG for in one sitting on: January 14, 2012, 11:22:23 AM
I'm only good for about 2 hours at a time. After that, my interest starts to wane and I need to get into something else. Usually something involving one of my guitars. I used to be able to go a lot longer, but games just don't hold my interest like they used to.
27  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: January 14, 2012, 11:15:09 AM
Just got done plowing through the 20th anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire. As boring, pointless, and INCREDIBLY Jedi-centric as the Star Wars expanded universe has become, it's nice to jump back into something that feels like old school Star Wars again. The annotations were really interesting, and the bonus Thrawn story at the end kicked ass. I'm hoping they do something similar with Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, although I'm not counting on it.

Count me in on the Lebowski bandwagon. I don't think I'll ever get tired of that flick. It's just so....perfect.

Anyway. Just got done watching Life of Brian for the squintillion and oneth time. Might not be the best or most popular of the Python flicks, but DAMN if it ain't brilliant. I'll be humming Always Look on the Bright Side of Life for the rest of the day, now.
29  Media / The Soundroom / Re: metal docs by sam dunn on: January 14, 2012, 10:56:16 AM
Dude, we have totally hijacked this thread. :)

I don't think I'd lump Tool into the nu-metal category....that band might as well be its own genre! Can't wait until their new album comes out. Blotted Science, too, is really just awesome (although I guess Charlie Zeleny isn't with them anymore, which is a pity....AMAZING drummer! I would have loved to see Behold... The Arctopus when they were on tour with Between the Buried and Me a few years back).

I didn't think the glam episode would be a big cringe, because, really, Penelope Spheeris already did that back in '88. I went back and watched The Decline of Western Civilization Part II on Google recently, and....yeah. I don't think you can get more cringe-worthy than that when it comes to the glam scene. We'll see how the nu-metal episode pans out, although I must say I'm DYING to hear Fred Durst explain his little, ummm....moment at Woodstock.

RPGFan Metalfest would be a great idea, too. You bring your bass rig, I'll bring a guitar or three, and then all we gotta do is find a drummer and a singer, right?! It'd be a killer time.

Ah, well. I know I'm an anomaly and I've long since accepted that. :)

No, no your not, we're here, we're just usually afraid of saying anything because the lovers are so aggressive. I loath the sucker. But that's all I'll say.

No, I don't think aggressive is the right word. I think psychotic is a more apt description. It's why I never talk about Joss Whedon or Final Fantasy VII. It's good to know that there are a few fellow anomalies out there, though.
