How about Lost Odyssey? Its a great turn based JRPG from the creator of Final Fantasy and there is plenty of grinding if you choose to. The game looks great and the written memories in the game are phenomenal! Check it out if you want a great JRPG experience, also I recommend installing the discs to boost the loading speeds of the battle sequences.

Thats a great suggestion, so great that it was already on my list of games that Ive done in my first post ;p !

D tnegA : I said I liked old school rpgs, not pre-historic one.. Excuse me but yes, PS1 RPGs ARE oldschool, imo. The videogames industry changes so fast that in 15 years PS3 RPGs will probably be consider oldschool. You guys all seem to be so picky on the word old school.. Thanks for the suggestions though, its always appreciated and Ill look into it.

It was inevitable that they'd reduce the difficulty of the game overall. The amount of complaints and hyperbole in XIII over random encounter difficulty, doom counters, leader death = game over, etc. was fairly significant. Doom counter replaced with a soft 'max HP damage' system that is reversible, you can switch leaders after the leader goes down, random encounters are now easy to splat with little strategy, etc. When most of the reviews state the battles are "faster" or "fast paced" what they mean is they're easier to steamroll instead of having to use appropriate strategy so the battle doesn't take 10x as long and end in a 1 star battle result.

What? There were really people that though that FFXIII was difficult O_O !

I try to enjoy FFXIII-2, but the fights are sooo boring... I always stop after 1 hour or so of gametime and I usually play a lot longer.
18  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: DO you Get 100% in every Rpg? on: January 17, 2012, 09:11:31 PM
I wish games would stop being more than 20 hours long.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

Most I do anymore these days is go for an ultimate weapon if I'm REALLY enjoying the game.  Otherwise no.  Too much of a backlog and games I could be playing instead.

What? Why would you want games to stop being more than 20 hours long? I can understand for shooter/action games, but imo a RPG that takes less than 30 hours is a bad thing.. Im all for 50+ hours epic RPGs

Hell no. I think Golden Sun 2 and Tales of Symphonia might be the only two RPGs that I've done anything possible.
20  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: I'd like some recommendation on: January 17, 2012, 06:27:32 PM
Oh really.. I must admit that everyone that told me about this game were all quite unfamiliar with RPGs, so they might all liked it because they didnt know much about the genre.
21  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Worst Final Fantasy game (No online games) on: January 17, 2012, 03:29:25 AM
As far as worst FFs go, its probably no surprise I'm going to point to FFXIII. Linear to a fault, unlikeable cast of characters, fairly simple story made unnecessarily complicated by confusing terminology, battle system that plays itself.

I totally agree with you on some points, yet totally disagree on others.

It was linear, way too much indeed, but the cast of characters were pretty good from my view. Lightning and Fang we're badass, (and cute), Serah was clueless but I think it was the point. Snow, unlike in FFXIII-2 where he looks quite weird, was okay. Sazch was a funny fellow. Not much to say about Hope and Vanille beside that they were fine.

The story was nothing extraordinary, I will agree on that, but far from being the worst of the series. It was good enough to keep me interested.

As for the battle system that plays itself, thats the other point where I totally agree with you. It surprised me, because that actually one thing that most of the people though it was good on this game... I would have call this system "Auto Battle", because thats almost what you do all game and its really boring.

Things i'd like to add : Awesome environments/cut scene and lack of towns/villages/npcs.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: January 17, 2012, 03:10:28 AM
Games like F3 and Oblivion/Skyrim aren't about the story at all, but more about the exploration and immersion, in my opinion. Well I never cared about the story in any of those games and I still loved them and the story is usually an important point for me.

On another note, 15 days before we can get our hands on FFXIII-2. Not that I actually care that much about reviews, but ive seen 4 notes so far on the game and it got : 40/40 from Famitsu, as almost everybody here already know, 9/10 on OXM (Official Xbox Magazine), 8/10 on POM (Playstation Official Magazine) and 8/10 on Game Informer.

As for the NA pre-orders :

290,000 PS3 copies and less than 90,000 for the X360.

Thats it for your daily stats hehe.

Yes, Yggdrasil, i've heard about Vagrant Story in the past. Its quite hard if I recall correctly? Never seen a physical copy though.. Ill take a look on the internet.

If, after a lot or research, I can't find many of those great titles on the internet/pawn shop i'll have to buy a PS3 in the future, but like I said before this will be only if its the only solution because not only im not a fan of digital copies, its also because I want to build a nice RPGs collection.

Thanks again for all your suggestions guys, truly appreciated. I don't know if there is anymore games you could suggest me since we already had a lot, so we can let this thread die ;p.

Yeah i've heard a lot about Xenogears, ill buy this game without even thinking about it if I find it, same for SOA on the NGC.

I also saw that one of the pawn shops in my city got The Legend of Dragoon, ill proprably take it since it looks like a solid traditional RPG.

As for Dark Souls, I was quite hyped about this game since it was supposed to be a great challenge, I tried it when it came out but for some reason I didnt really like the gameplay. Not a bad game at all, I just couldnt get into it.

On another note, I recently bought Children of Mana, I had Sword of Mana on the GBA (one of the many games I forgot to add on my first post) and it was decent, dont know if CoM is any good though.. anyway it was only 20$

I got an old pair of turtle beach X11, cost me about 80$ 3-4 years ago and they still work like new. The sound quality is really good, better than most of the ~150$ headphone out there and it also does the microphone. I think this model doesnt exist anymore though, the same quality would be the X12 now and its only 60$, but I would recommend the X41 if you can afford them, they have 7.1 and are wireless. One of my friend got these one and its amazing.

Am I the only one who had the possibility to download and try the demo but didnt and will buy the game in 2 weeks? For some reason I have zero doubt about the quality of this game.

If you were completely fine with FFXIII then you're right to make that call. Anyone who WASN'T would be nuts to jump into FFXIII-2 anyway without trying the demo or at least reading enough impressions.

Yes, thats basically what I was thinking. FFXIII war far from being among the best of the series, but it was still good in my opinion.

It's more the fact that the oldest system you have is a PS1, your game library is pretty small, and nothing you've listed is even remotely old school.

[....]

That and the period of time preceding the adoption of touch and waggle into the gaming scene still isn't oldschool.

Even if the PS1 is my oldest console, I play games of the kind of FFIV which we're made in 1991, thats 20 years ago but anyway you got the point im sure stop caring about little details please. I only wanted recommendation of RPGs that suit my taste and I got some great ideas so thats it!

By the way, I guess thats also because you didnt read the thread, but how can a collection of more than 50 games can be small? Thats about 2,500$ of videogames, without even counting the others 50 or so that I sold..

You would know it if you had read the first line of my first post. Im 20, but I don't understand your point? A 15 years old kid could be consider "old school" if he likes old schools games and dislike the new motion era..

Anyway, back on topic please.
30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: I'd like some recommendation on: January 14, 2012, 06:38:56 PM
I bought Radiant Historia earlier today, thanks again for the recommendation guys! I won't be able to tell you if I like it any time soon though cause Ive gotta finish Chrono Trigger first then ill be on FFXIII-2.

As for The World Ends With You and any other games that involved the touch screen a lot, I forgot to tell you that I dislike this. I guess im too oldschool for any of this motion/touch thing (everything wii/kinnect/move/touchscreen related is really not my thing)
