Never forget that a review is only the opinion of one person and you can have a totally different view from that person. The problem is that most reviewers are subjective in their article. I used to reviews games for a website and even if I disliked one game, I did my best to stay objective trough my review.

I think that RPGFan does a good job on that most of the time.

Imo, id take Mass Effect over Fable 2. The first Fable was decent, but I really believe that the others are overrated (just like Mass Effect in fact, but still not as much as Fable). But its two completely different games, one is medieval and the other is sci-fi... it depends of what you want. I find Fable too simple, its like the game was made for kids.

Just my opinion though, but its what your asking :P

Zik, I'm concerned that you seem to have a lot of criteria on HOW you get games, above and beyond what you like/dislike. If you lock out all digital downloads, then you're soon going to find yourself with a lot fewer options. Also, digital downloads are usually quite a bit cheaper.

I'm kinda surprised about you disliking some games for being too easy, yet loving Tales of Symphonia, which is probably the easiest game on your list. I take it that you don't mind easy games if they have action elements? I don't really know about those things, I like easy games. But yeah, if you want HARD games, the Shin Migami games are quite challenging, I gave up on two of them.

Skies of Arcadia is an AMAZING game, IMO, but something tells me you won't go for it, it's very easy. It's all about exploration and expansive travel, which is my central love, and I just love it's style, but it deffinitely isn't challenging.

Ahhhh, one game you might really like, which is pretty challenging, but similarly expansive is Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2. Wonderful characters, great voice acting and dialog, a huge expansive world, very strategic battles, and very long.

If you lock out all digital downloads : If you look at the console I currently have, none of these except the X360 have digital download. So its not only that I dislike it, but mainly because its not an option. To be honest when I made this thread I was mainly looking for DS suggestion since its pretty hard nowadays to find game on the NGC and PS1. Ive done pretty much every RPGs in which im interested in the X360. I still know a few places that sells used PS1/NGC games so I put them on my list anyway.

I'm kinda surprised about you disliking some games for being too easy, yet loving Tales of Symphonia : Ive never said that I dislike these game because they were too easy, I loved Golden Sun and Im really into Chrono Trigger and FFTA2 even if they are easy, its just that I enjoy challenging games more than easy games.

I have Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 on the DS and I enjoy it a lot, my brother got the original on the PS1 so I might give it a try someday. Ive never seen any game of the Front Mission series though, i'll take a lot at this one thanks.

So far Radiant Historia and Suikoden are the ones that really interest me, although I have no idea where I will be able to find PS1 games -_-
I don't think ill ever buy a Wii, plus I dont really like to buy digital games.

Oh sorry, I didnt know about this rule. Also don't worry, I have over 50+ games on my collection, FFVI is the only game I played on an emulator because I was unable to find it.

Maybe that was a few years back, but you have the VC and PSN now to get it (under Final Fantasy III on VC). VC's preferable, but if you can tolerate loads than PSN's acceptable.

I don't own a PS3 and I don't know whats VC and yeah it was a few years back. I buy every game I can and never sell them, thanks anyway!

As for FFVI, I played it on an GBA emulator and liked it!

Don't pirate!  FF6 is available through plenty of legal channels.  No emulator/ROM/Piracy speak.

I also totally recommand this game if you are looking for a nice, but simple, coop hack-n-slash. Its a lot of fun, quite repetitive in the long run but eh, isnt that the case of every hack-n-slash?

The only major-bug I had on this game was with the Revealing the Unseen quest for the college of winterhold. I was unable to move the lens toward the end, so I could never progress in this questline. I had some other minor bugs but nothing game breaking.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I dislike Star Ocean TLH mainly because I could not get into the story and the combat system was awful, imo. Ill look into the other games you suggested me.

Edit :

neogalahad : its the first time I heard of this series, it looks interesting, thanks!

Admin Edit: Removed piracy line.

Hello! I'm new here, so i'll make a quick presentation before asking my question. Im a man, 20, live in Canada and obviously like RPGs a lot!

Recently, I decided to get back into RPGs (especially old school JRPGs) because I find newer games too short and too easy, thus making them boring. So basically id just like some new ideas and suggestion from this commnuity.

To give you an idea of what I like and to make sure you dont suggest me a game ive already done, ill list every rpg that ive done so far on every console and a quick review on it. (well, ill probably forget some but you get the point). I currently own a PS1, DS XL, Gamecube and Xbox 360.

PS1 :

FF7
FF8
FF9
Wild Arms 2
Chrono Cross

When I had this console, I was too young to fully understand RPGs so I played these one but never finished them, they are all on my "To Do" list

DS :

FFIII
FFIV : I loved this remake from start to finish! I like challenging game and that one was something toward the end!
Golden Sun 3 : I liked every game of this series, although a bit too easy.
Chrono Trigger : Im currently on that one, pretty good so far although a bit too easy
FFTA 2 : Im on hard mode and still too easy, but only 8hours in so maybe thats why.

To do : Dragon Quest IX

Game Cube :

Tales Of Symphonia : Loved it! The dialogue were funny and the combat were addicting.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles : That game was soo bad honestly..

X360

Lost Odyssey : One of my favorite RPGs on this console, loved the story and old school battle system
Tales of Vesperia : Not as good as ToS but still a great game
Enchanted Arms : Not bad, but not so good either. I liked the strategic battle system but the frequency of combat was way too high
Oblivion : 150 hours of game time, do I need to say more?
Skyrim : 80 hours in so far
FF XIII : I liked the story, graphics were awesome, but I wasnt a fan of the battle system. Id say a decent game.
Dungeon Siege III : Cool action-rpg but way too short (12 hours to finish a "rpg" wtf?)
Dragon Age : I loved the first one but the sequel was awful.
Fallout 3 & NV
Star Ocean TLH : Horrible
Infinite Undiscovery : Horrible
Eternal Sonata : I only played 4-5 hours and didnt really get into the game.
Mass Effect : Decent games, but I think a bit overrated.

TL;DR : I like challenging RPGs, awesome soundtrack is a must, need at least a decent story, strategic turn-based combat system or fluid action real time is ok. Graphics isnt a must, if the art design is great even on a 16bit technology (like Chrono Trigger) I dont mind.

The only thing I'm worried about in regards to 13-2 is trying to integrate too much of the old story. It was rather disheartening to play the demo and hear fal'cie this and l'cie that. It's enough to make you go "Ugh, thanks for reminding me of that crappy game. Can we just pretend it didn't happen? Stop mentioning those words!". XD

Eventhough I liked the game, I can understand that people disliked it because of severals reasons (I still liked the old FFs better) but cmon the story with the l'cie wasnt bad at all. I didnt try the demo but ill get the game when it will be release. Gotta finish Chrono Trigger asap!
43  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long do you play an RPG for in one sitting on: January 11, 2012, 01:46:00 AM
When I start a session of a RPG I try to play at least 2 hours, its just not the kind of games I enjoy playing by little parts.
44  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Worst Final Fantasy game (No online games) on: January 08, 2012, 04:20:21 PM
I played these : III, IV, VI, VIII, IX, X, XIII

So obviously I wont put the others on my list, so from best to worst :

IV, VIII, X, VI, IX, XIII, III

But I still like them all.
45  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales Of Vesperia. on: January 03, 2012, 03:45:50 AM
I finally started playing it again last night. As for being stuck, I really wasn't it seems. I tried leaving the town I was in, but it wouldn't let me leave so I just wandered around town a bit until I came across a spot that a cut scene started up. Pretty cool. I thought I was nearing the end at around 35 hours... but a look at an online hint guide made it look like I was only half through it. I should have known as the last Tales game I played (TO Symphonia) took me well over 70 hours to finish.

Symphonia took me 60h+ and Vesperia 45h. Both are awesome games !
