Oh Makoto Shinkai.  That bastard has done a pretty good job of filling the hole in my heart that was created when Satoshi Kon died.  I should watch 5 cm/s again....

I'm well aware of Sony and Fox's motivations in making new Spider-Man and X-Men films, but I don't think that the business motivations for making those films is reason enough to dismiss them.  News flash: every major studio movie ever made is a business venture intending to make money.  All movies are made by accountants.  I'd recommend reading Adventures in the Screen Trade by William Goldman - it's a wonder that any films get made, ever.

The Peter Parker I grew up with is a little bit more troubled and sardonic than Tobey Maguire's portrayal in the Raimi films.  I really enjoyed the second of that trilogy, but ultimately I thought the first two movies were too candy-colored and... not in quite the same Spider-Man spirit I wanted.  Spider-Man 3 was a dumpster fire of overwrought-ness and bad ideas.  I really liked Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's performances in Amazing Spider-Man, and I was a little indignant when you dismissed Garfield as either "bro" or "hipster" (not sure you even settled on one of those catch-all insults).  I'm going to see the sequel opening weekend.

And yeah, One More Day is one of the worst storylines Marvel's ever done.  Nobody likes bringing that one up.  And people make fun of me for preferring DC's oeuvre most of the time.

EDIT: and hey, sorry if I'm being combative, but, well, I guess I'm just a somewhat combative person that disagrees with Rob a lot.

Bravely Default sounds like it's meeting or exceeding expectations.  Really want to play that.

And wow, if Rob thinks that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man is too bro or too hipster, then he doesn't know a damn thing about Spider-Man.

And let's not forget the best not-CC not-WA RPG opening of all time: WRUUUUUuuuu

Finally knocked off Assassin's Creed II, so now it's back to Steam.  I want to finish Dust: An Elysian Tail by the end of the week.  Bring it on.

I really liked Thousand Arms (I wish I owned a copy; rented it several years ago), but the whole relationship / forging systems seemed... flawed.  I would 1000% LOVE a Thousand Arms sequel with some more sophisticated systems in place.

This is weird.  My computer iTunes received the podcast just fine, but my phone's podcast app can't find it at all. I usually listen to casts on my phone using earbuds, so it might be a bit more finagling before I get to it.

A little disappointed in the lack of any Persona or Thousand Arms (ahahaha kidding on that last one) but I guess it was fun picking the BioWare character I'm most attracted to.  They didn't have my Skyrim wife in the running; that was a little disappointing.

Yeah, I gotcha.  I'm just not sure how a demo is supposed to communicate story and characters the way you wanted it to.  I'm pretty excited about the game, though, so I guess my predisposition was more positive.  Also, story and characters are never the first thing I look for in an RPG.  Looking forward to checking out the new episode.

Featured on a recent Bombcast, the BEST pinball music ever.  Yes, apparently some pinball machines have full soundtracks, and at least one time it was THIS BITCHIN'

THE BLACK KNIGHT

I want to hear three remixes of this tune at MAGFest 2015.  Minimum.

I deeply deeply wish we had gotten one of those ToD remakes.  The original Destiny is the worst Tales Of game by a long shot, and the remakes probably fix 90% of my issues with the clunky combat and lame character customization.

Still plugging away at Assassin's Creed 2.

... also started up The Walking Dead.  Currently pretty early in episode 2 (entire group is at the dairy farm), and I thiiink I know where this particular episode is going.  The mom at the farm gives me such a twisted Evil Paula Deen vibe that there is one obvious twist that's coming up soon, I think.

So... do we have an update? It's been awhile.

Playing Assassin's Creed II.  First time I've played any AC game.  I like it quite a bit; the story stuff is fair, but the historical fiction aspects of it are really interesting.  I like the open world, but it feels a little too samey - it's very, very obvious that the team re-used assets constantly, which is fine but I wish the different parts of Florence and Tuscany were a bit better-differentiated.

The open crowd combat stuff is okay, but kind of easy and light on punishment.  My favorite parts of the game are the more confined, linear areas (Assassin tombs, Templar lairs, etc.) which feel like really good Prince of Persia levels.  What I'm saying is I want Assassin's Creed to be more like Prince of Persia, but I get the idea that the later games in the series move it in the other direction.  Maybe I just want another Prince of Persia game?

I've played Phantasia (S.Fam, GBA, PS1), Destiny (PS1), Eternia (PS1, PSP), Symphonia (GC), Legendia (PS2), Abyss (PS2), Vesperia (360), Innocence (DS), Graces (PS3), and Xillia (PS3).  My least favorite by FAR is Destiny on the PS1.  That game is like a slower, jankier Phantasia with too many characters, most of them uninteresting or rote.  Garr was my favorite, but I usually like the "sarcastic older guy" characters anyway.  My favorite is a tough choice between Phantasia (my first, and a classic RPG in every sense) and Vesperia (excellent main character, pretty solid combat and quests).  I didn't dislike Xillia as much as other people seemed to, but it's probably because I enjoyed the combat and customization so much.
